A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 309 Carrying the Sack

Brendon hoisted her up onto his shoulder like a sack of potatoes! Ranita’s stomach pressed against his shoulder, and she was afraid of falling off while also worried about hurting the baby inside her if she struggled. She reached out to hit Brendon, “Put me down now!”

“Brendon, put me down! Someone might see us…”

Just as Ranita finished speaking, a security guard patrolling nearby spotted them and hurried over. When he realized who they were, he gave them a knowing smile, “Oh, it’s you two…”

“You two can fool around all you want, but please be careful!”

Ranita blushed at being scolded and couldn’t keep her hands still as she pounded on Brendon to let her go. But Brendon didn’t feel embarrassed in the slightest; he just smiled back at the security guard, “Thanks for your concern. We’ll head back now.”

It wasn’t until they arrived at the entrance to their apartment building that Brendon finally set her down.

He held onto her waist while pushing buttons on the keypad.

“Tick-tock!” The door opened, and Ranita was pushed inside by him. She got angry and red-eyed as she asked him, “Brendon, let go of me! What are you trying to do?”

But Brendon didn’t move; he just let her hit him.

After letting out her anger with punches on his chest, Ranita calmed down slightly before saying, “Brendon, I thought we had already talked things through? What’s going on with you now?”Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.

That was because he didn’t know Jedidiah was a jerk.

Brenden became somewhat irritable.

“What about you? Do you still like Jedidiah even though there are other women around him?”

“That’s my own business; don’t bother yourself with it.”

Don’t bother? Why is this woman so heartless? Bitterness filled Brenden’s mouth as he struggled to find words. He thought that at least there would be some place for himself in Ranita’s heart but reality kept reminding him that his efforts were worthless.

“Fine! I won’t bother then,” said Brenden coldly while carrying her on his back before waving goodbye without turning around.

“I’m leaving first,” said Ranita quietly before walking out of the door without looking up or saying another word.

That night, Ranita had nightmares again.

In those dreams, she found herself shackled by iron chains around ankles which clinked noisily…

She curled up against rough walls where small rocks scraped against skin leaving behind painful blood marks…

It was torture, mental torture.

Ranita woke up drenched in sweat, her head pounding and feeling groggy. She checked her phone and saw that it was only a little past seven in the morning.

She squinted as she scrolled through her messages and saw one from Jedidiah, “I took Chole back to Steland last night, sorry I couldn’t say goodbye in person so I’m texting you now.”

“I don’t know why Chole suddenly came to Kurima, sorry about that. Don’t be mad at her, we’ll try our best to talk some sense into her.”

Ranita read the message and replied with a simple “Okay.” She lay in bed for a while longer before finally calling Caleb. The phone rang for a bit before he answered with an apology, “Ms. Bowman, sorry about earlier! Is there something you needed?”

Caleb spoke carefully on the other end of the line while glancing nervously at Brendon’s stern expression beside him. “Caleb, Brendon asked me to schedule an appointment with you so he can go down to City Hall and get his paperwork done.”

Caleb swallowed hard as he looked over at Brendon whose face was dark like thunderclouds ready to burst any moment now… Caleb didn’t know how to respond but inside his mind screamed for help!
