A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 146 He Is Responsible

As she walked away quickly from Brendon, the dull ache in her lower abdomen turned into sharp cramps due to fear and anxiety.

Ranita was extremely frightened, so she began walking even faster.

“Dylan…” Halfway there, she couldn’t hold on any longer. She leaned on the railing, gasping for air, and trembling fingers fumbled in her pocket to retrieve her phone, preparing to call Dylan.Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

After a few beeps, her phone was suddenly taken away.

Ranita looked up and saw Brendon with a dark expression, ending her call, then he bent down and lifted her off her feet.

Startled, Ranita instinctively grabbed his shoulder. “What are you doing?”

“I’m taking you back!” Brendon’s tone was authoritative, and he carried her with a determined stride, already covering several paces.

Still angry, Ranita protested, “Put me down! I can walk by myself! I don’t need to trouble you, Mr. Stuart!”

“Mr. Stuart?” Brendon gritted his teeth and snorted, “Ranita, you’re so hypocritical. Now you’re all ‘Mr. Stuart,’ but in bed, you weren’t…”

What kind of nonsense was his?

“Brendon, shut up!” Ranita’s eyes widened with anger, and the tears that had been building up in her eyes began to blur her vision. Her cheeks were slightly pink from frustration, and she looked like a Persian cat that had been wronged – pitiful yet adorable.

Brendon’s heart itched with desire. He wanted nothing more than to grab Ranita and kiss her deeply.

He pursed his lips and asked sarcastically, “Ha! Wasn’t I telling the truth?”

Ranita was so embarrassed that she punched him in the chest with her fists. “Put me down! I can walk by myself…”

Brendon interrupted her, saying firmly, “I’ll take care of you since I’m the one who made you angry!”

Ha!

This jerk only cared about how he had just upset her!

After finishing his sentence, Brendon looked Ranita up and down before she suddenly clung tightly to his neck out of fear. She glared at him angrily and asked in a voice full of twists and turns, “What are you doing?”

Brendon’s heart grew even hotter.

“It seems like you’ve lost weight compared to before,” he said coldly while pausing for a moment before adding sourly, “You shouldn’t be hanging around Dylan anymore. He doesn’t know how to take care of you properly. You’ve only been away from me for a few days now but look at how skinny you’ve become.”

The more Brendon spoke, the more frustrated he felt inside because he’d taken such good care of Ranita over these past three years – making sure she was always healthy-looking with beautiful skin – almost like an elegant Persian cat.

Now someone else was reaping all those benefits…

“Brendon,” Ranita retorted furiously while pushing against his chest. She could feel his warmth as well as strength through his thin shirt after their brief contact. “My weight loss has nothing to do with Dylan.”

It was because she was pregnant with someone else’s baby… it had nothing to do with innocent Dylan!

The real culprit here was Brendon himself!

“And besides,” she continued while still pushing against him. “Put me down. I don’t want anything else from you right now.”

Ranita pushed at his chest, and with the touch of her hand on his thin shirt, she immediately felt the warmth of the man’s body and his powerful presence.

“If you don’t want to talk to me, then don’t. I’ll just drop you off and leave,” Brendon, feeling embarrassed, didn’t plan to keep pursuing Ranita’s cold demeanor. He knew he had misspoken earlier.

“No, I’m afraid someone might see and get the wrong idea!” Ranita replied.

Upon hearing this, Brendon stopped in his tracks. His jaw tightened, and his voice was filled with grit, “Afraid Dylan might get the wrong idea?”

“Haha! I’ve done plenty with you. If he’s going to nitpick, there would be countless misunderstandings!” She emphasized the word ‘done.’

People often said Brendon was as cold as ice, quiet and reserved, but that was only when Brendon didn’t want to talk. When discussing business matters, Brendon’s mouth could be quite nimble. And now, with one sentence, Ranita’s mind was so clouded by anger that she couldn’t remember anything.
