Chapter 966: Poor and Troubled Again
Verda turned to look at him, couldn’t help but snort coldly, “What? Want to pursue me?”
Xander, “…”
“I’ve seen shameless people, but I’ve never seen someone as shameless as you.” Xander sarcastically remarked, “Pursue you? Only if there were no other women in this world.”
“Exactly. If there were women around, would you even bother going on blind dates? You seem more like a confirmed bachelor to me.” Verda loved to play, but she wasn’t stupid. Orion could easily meet with Alf at any time, so why would he need her to pass on anything to him?
It was all just an excuse to deceive her into going on a blind date, wasn’t it?
She saw through it clearly in her mind’s eye, but chose not to expose it.
Orion raised an eyebrow, thinking to himself, watching her act nonchalant, he hadn’t expected her to be so perceptive.
Xander stood up in anger.
Normally, Orion and Che would tease him about not having a girlfriend, and he didn’t mind, as their relationship was good and it was all in jest. But being mocked like this by someone he had just met made him feel helpless and angry.
“Don’t slander me. I’m not going on any blind dates. If I were, who would be my blind date?” As he spoke, Xander began to realize something was amiss. He remembered being urged by Evan to come out of the hotel, only to coincidentally run into Orion, who was with a girl.
Was this girl-his blind date?
…
He laughed mockingly at himself, “Could you be my blind date?”
Verda looked at his expression, as if genuinely unsure. This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
She didn’t continue to torment him, instead turned to Orion and blinked her pretty eyes, “I wasn’t mistaken, was I?”
Xander also looked at Orion.
Facing Xander’s questioning gaze, Orion awkwardly and politely smiled, “Um, well…”
“Yes,” Evan answered for Orion.
“You want to set me up on a date, why not just say so?” Xander said.
“If we had told you directly, would you have come?” Evan asked.
Orion nodded in agreement, “That’s right, we don’t know you that well. You’re so stubborn even if there were some nice girls on blind dates, you wouldn’t be interested. Your personality is so quirky…”
“You’re the one with the quirky personality. I just want to fall in love, while you guys are all about love and marriage. But I’m supposed to go on a blind date and get married, how conventional is that? No thanks.” Xander’s temper subsided, and he no longer spoke so sharply.
“I agree with that, blind dates are too conventional.” Verda also didn’t dislike Xander as much at that moment. After all, he didn’t know this was a blind date, and he didn’t like blind dates either, which matched her thoughts.
Orion thought he had acted quite well, but how did Verda find out?
He asked Verda, “How did you figure it out?”
They had met quite naturally, like a chance encounter.
Verda smiled, “Did you have to think about it? Isn’t it obvious? You were so deliberate in setting us up, if I didn’t feel it at all, wouldn’t I be a fool?”
Evan, “…”
Orion, “…”
They looked at each other.
They both saw confusion in each other’s eyes.
Had they been too obvious?
This made them feel frustrated.
Orion stood up, “Alright, you’re both smart, while Evan and I are the fools. We wanted to create a match, but you’re both too smart. I’m the fool here. It’s a beautiful day today, I should be at home. I’m leaving now, feel free.”
And no one stopped him.
After all, today was a special day.
He should go home.
No one would stop him, who would stop him at this moment, everyone understood.
Evan patted Xander on the shoulder, “This is the first time I’ve played matchmaker in my life, and I messed it up.”
He also stood up, “Sacha is alone at the hotel, I’m worried. I’ll go back first, since the hotel is nearby. You go back by yourself.”
Xander nodded, “You ordered this expensive alcohol, I’ll finish it before leaving.”
“And don’t drink too much.” Evan reminded.
Xander nodded, “Alright, you go back quickly, your wife is pregnant.”
As Evan walked past Verda, he couldn’t help but promote his friend, “My friend, Xander is a good guy, don’t miss out on him.”
Xander, “…”
“If you say one more word, I’ll knock on your door tonight and make sure you can’t sleep.” Xander felt embarrassed. There were others present.
“Okay, okay, I won’t say anything else.” Evan laughed and left briskly.
Verda watched Xander, then suddenly sat back down.
Xander looked at her curiously, “What? Not leaving yet. Are you preparing to go on a blind date with me?”
Verda said, “We can have a drink together.”
Xander joked, “I can’t stand you.”
“I can’t stand you either. The reason I stayed was to see you drink alone.” Verda poured herself a glass of wine.
Xander noticed the bracelet on her wrist and sneered, “They really missed the mark, matching a high-class lady like you with me, it’s a mismatch.”
Verda asked, “Why do you say that?”
“The bracelet on your wrist is the latest limited edition luxury item, isn’t it? I can’t afford a girl like that.”
Verda glanced at her wrist where diamonds sparkled, she appreciated the sight.
“A girl like me, what kind of girl am I?” Verda raised her eyes, her exquisite eye makeup making her eyes shimmer and beautiful.
“A spendthrift,” Xander said in just four words.
Verda wasn’t offended, she laughed and looked at her wrist again. Even her casual accessories were worth tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands.
“It’s not my fault I was born well-off.”
She was open about it.
Suddenly, she became very interested in Xander, “Tell me, what kind of girl do you like?”
Xander answered without hesitation, “Beautiful, quiet.”
“Tsk tsk, you men are all visual creatures, aren’t you?” Verda smirked, “I despise men like you, poor and troubled. Tell me, who would marry a good-looking woman like you?”
“If fate brings us together, it will happen naturally.” Xander poured her a drink.
Verda snorted, “I wouldn’t marry you.”
“I wouldn’t marry you either, but I stayed to see you drink alone.” Verda poured herself a glass of wine.
Xander took a sip from his glass, the alcohol burning down his throat.
She frowned, “Can’t handle alcohol? With your height, such a low tolerance?”
Xander leaned back on the couch, glancing lightly at her, “What, you want me to drink more and take advantage of me? Not a chance.”
With that, he wobbled to his feet.
As he entered the dance floor, a beautiful woman approached him.
“Hey handsome, all by yourself?”
