Chapter 36 The Driver at Fault
“This is Orion Russo speaking, Freya has been injured and is in the operating room.” Orion Russo stood at the entrance of the operating room.
Elowen Noir’s heart immediately jumped, “What happened? Is my daughter hurt?”
Orion responded with a nod, “Yes.”
“In which hospital?” Elowen was anxious and worried to death.
“General Hospital of the Second Military Region.”
“Okay, I got it.” Elowen hung up the phone and hurriedly took a taxi to the hospital.
At the hospital, Freya grabbed onto the doctor performing her surgery. “My children, is there any hope?”
After an examination had been conducted, one of the babies was confirmed as not viable and had already passed away while the other could still be saved. The doctor asked Freya if she wanted to try saving that one too.
Freya’s face turned pale as paper; her lips were so dry they bled as she spoke hoarsely, “Yes, please do everything you can.”
The doctor said reassuringly, “I will do my best.”
The head of gynecology at Second Military Region performed Freya Stone’s surgery; his skills were undoubtedly excellent.
Orion Russo specialized in thoracic surgery but he found a top-notch gynecologist for Freya. Knowing how urgent her situation was, Orion Russo had been pacing back and forth constantly anxiously.
When Elowen arrived at the hospital, Freya hadn’t yet come out of surgery. She came to stand outside of the operating room door and asked,” What kind of injury did she sustain? How could something like this happen?”
Orion Russo didn’t know exactly what happened either but he didn’t tell Elowen about Freya’s injuries because he knew that her health wasn’t good enough for such stress. He just tried to hide it from her temporarily by saying, “Aunt Elowen, don’t worry, it’s nothing serious.”
Elowen still couldn’t help worrying endlessly about her daughter.
“My poor Freya has suffered so much under me as her mother.”
If only she had realized earlier that divorcing Leo would have made things better for her daughter. Now she didn’t even know how severe Freya’s injuries were.
After more than an hour passed by, Freya was finally pushed out from surgery. She had wounds all over her body but none on her face so it looked like nothing serious happened.
Elwen walked up close with red eyes.
“Freya.” Elowen called her daughter’s name softly.
Freya stone felt weak, she didn’t want mother worry about herself. Elowen had just been cured after all. She opened mouth weakly and said, “I’m okay, mom. I guess you’re discharged now?”
Elwen nodded silently…
“Mom, go find a hotel to stay in first. I’ll transfer the money to your phone. You rest first, Orion will take care of me.” She did everything she could to send Elowen away.
Elowen held her hand and said, “I’m worried about you. Zane Stone drove your car and hit someone. I don’t know how bad it is, but I’m afraid it will implicate you since the car is under your name.”
Freya seemed to understand what was going on in an instant. Her eyes were empty for a few seconds before blinking weakly. Her eyelashes fluttered gently as she said, “I understand now… Mom, go to the hotel first. I want some alone time to rest. If you’re with me, I’ll worry about your health and won’t be able to rest properly.”
How could Elowen not feel that her daughter was trying to get rid of her? She choked up slightly and said, “Freya, I’ve already filed for divorce from your father. If there’s anything you need help with or want to talk about, maybe I can help.”Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
Freya was too tired now; she replied weakly, “Mom, I’m fine now, if there’s anything important later on then we can talk.”
She had no choice but keep this matter vague. She couldn’t tell her mother that she had been beaten up; otherwise Elowen would definitely be worried sick.
Elowen asked softly when she saw Freya looking weak, “Can I come see you tonight?”
Freya nodded slightly.
Elowen stood up and expressed his gratitude to Orion Russo.
Orion said, “You’re welcome.”
“No matter what, I still want to thank you.” Elowen thanked him again and again.
After Elowen left, Freya was pushed into the ward by Orion. He didn’t ask any questions because he knew that at this moment all she needed was rest.
“I’ll be right here, if there’s anything wrong or if you need something.” Orion whispered softly.
Freya closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep for two hours straight before waking up thirsty. “Thirsty,” she croaked out hoarsely while opening her mouth wide open.
Orion poured water for Freya who drank half a cup which relieved the dryness in her throat making it less bitter than before. However, she still felt pain all over body.
“What happened? Who did this?” Orion finally couldn’t hold back his question anymore.”Was it Liora Valentine?”
Freya shook her head.
If it wasn’t for what her mother told her earlier about Zane Stone driving her car, she might have thought so too. But now she was clear.
Zane Stone crashed Elijah’s car.
If it was serious, the authorities should intervene, but Elijah privately taught the person who hit him a lesson. Either he suffered serious injuries or angered him.
But thinking carefully about it, she felt a slight sense of forgiveness of her half-brother’s mistake.
“Orion, I’m ready to divorce Elijah. I’ve already had one miscarriage and if I continue to be with him, I definitely won’t be able to keep another one.” She said weakly. “I’m going to tell him about my pregnancy.”
Orion nodded in agreement.
It wasn’t because he wanted Freya Stone and Elijah divorced for his own selfish reasons. It was because they both had their own children and this made it difficult for them to get along with each other, let alone develop feelings for each other due to too many obstacles in their way. If they didn’t have children then things would have been easier said than done.
“I think even if Elijah doesn’t like Liora Valentine, he wouldn’t abandon his child.” Orion Russo speculated.
Freya pulled at her lips and said, “What nonsense are you talking about? If Elijah doesn’t like her, how could she become pregnant?”
She foolishly believed what Elijah said before that he didn’t like Liora Valentine.
Or was it that all men only think with their penises?
She took a deep breath realizing that she had no right or credibility saying anything anymore so there was no point dwelling on it now.
…
At another hospital, the secretary came over to report the situation of Liora Valentine’s surgery.
“The doctor who performed surgery on Miss Valentine ran away. We’re currently looking for him. And the driver responsible has been found and given a lesson according your orders as well.” The secretary handed over some information regarding the driver involved in the accident.
Elijah wasn’t interested; he didn’t bother looking at any of it as he spoke, “Make sure you find the doctor.”
The fact that someone ran away from performing surgery made no sense whatsoever; something fishy must have happened behind closed doors which made this person flee without leaving any trace behind.
“Yes, we’ll send more people out immediately.” The secretary replied promptly.
“Miss Valentine wants see you but I stopped her outside; do you want me let her come in?” The secretary asked again
Elijah waved his hand dismissively–he wasn’t interested nor did he want anyone bothering him right now especially after what just happened earlier today.
His child was gone.
He sent his secretary out instead telling them go teach that responsible driver a lesson so that perhaps by doing so might bring himself some comfort.
The secretary exited the room before saying, “I’m outside the door. If you need anything just call me.”
As she was leaving, she accidentally dropped the documents in her hand. Elijah caught a glimpse of them and saw the name Freya Stone.
The secretary bent down to pick up the papers and was about to leave when Elijah called out to her, “Show me the driver’s information.”
The secretary handed it over.
