Chapter 43: I’ll Be with You
Chapter 43: I’ll Be with You
Claudia was sitting on the sofa in the lobby of the spa, scrolling her phone. She called a dozen cabs
and raised the price again and again, but no one took the order.
Due to the sudden heavy rain and the remote location, it was hard for her to call a cab to go back to
town, not to mention that she also had to go through the sea-crossing bridge.
The bridge was out of repair. When it rained heavily, cars were often submerged, so no one wanted to
risk his life to make this little money.
The spa was a few kilometers away from the nearest subway station. If Claudia walked to the station,
there might be a chance that she went back to town.
It seemed that the rain wouldn’t stop in a while. Looking at the terrible weather outside, Claudia couldn’t
help but frown.
The staff of the spa walked up to her and said with a smile, “Mrs. Crawford, it’s pouring down outside. If
you want to spend the night here, we can get you a room.”
Spend the night here...
Suddenly, the name “Conrad” flashed across Claudia’s mind. She still had a baby at home, and she
had to nurse him. Her baby didn’t have powered milk at all.
This thought in mind, Claudia shook her head immediately and typed on her phone, “Don’t bother. I
need to go back.”
The staff didn’t know what to do now. Normally, the place would arrange a car to send Claudia back
home, not to mention that she was Mrs. Crawford. But since the weather was terrible outside, they
didn’t do anything in case something bad happened.
Claudia couldn’t wait any longer at the thought of Conrad at home. She asked for an umbrella from the
spa and walked to the nearest subway station. She had to go back to town!
It was so windy that Claudia’s umbrella turned inside out, and the pelting rain soaked her clothes in an
instant.
The road in the suburbs was rough and wet; in addition, the heavy rain restricted visibility, so Claudia
couldn’t walk in those heels. She took them off and held them in her hands, walking barefoot on the
ground.
Due to the roadwork on her way to the subway station, the road was so muddy and bumpy for Claudia
to walk on. Suddenly, something cut the sole of her foot, and she gave a grimace of pain.
Finally, when she walked out of the roadwork site, Claudia checked the soles of her feet, finding that
there were a lot of cuts on them. Those deep ones were oozing blood, and it hurt so much when they
touched rain.
Claudia managed to go ahead, but her feet were too painful to keep on walking. Now it was raining
more heavily than just now. A strong wind blew Claudia’s umbrella off, though it made no difference to
her whether to hold it or not, and it slipped out of her hand.
Claudia’s feet were hurting badly. She couldn’t stand the pain anymore and took out her phone, trying
to call a cab again, only to see a dozen missed calls on the screen. But before she could see the caller
ID clearly, the phone was dead.
Claudia froze and the phone fell to the ground.
Coincidentally, the phone fell into a small puddle next to her. Claudia had to crouch down and fumble
around in the dirty water.
At last, Claudia got her phone back. Before she tried to turn on the phone again, a squeal of brakes
came into her ear.
Claudia looked up in a flurry. Her vision blurred in the driving rain, her long hair soaked, her face pale,
she was like a deer caught in the headlights, vulnerable and miserable.
The car door was pushed open. A big and tall figure got off with a huge black umbrella in his hand.
Claudia was unable to make out who it was because the figure was standing against the light.
It was when the handsome and tall man walked straight up to her that Claudia saw who he was. He
grabbed her slender arm with his strong hand, gave it a sharp pull and yanked her up from the ground.
Now the huge black umbrella kept her off the heavy rain.
Claudia stared at Scott in front of her in astonishment. When she was still in confusion, Scott said, “Get
into the car first!”
Before Claudia could react, Scott grabbed her arm and squeezed her into the car as he spoke.
Scott folded the umbrella, got into the car and handed Claudia a fresh towel. He said as he started the
car, “It’s pouring down. How dare you walk on the road alone? Do you know what could happen?” Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
How wouldn’t she know what could happen?
But Claudia kept thinking about the baby at home, so she had to go back to town, no matter what.
The car went ahead for a while, and the sea-crossing bridge was not far away ahead of them.
Assumably, the bridge closed because of the weather.
Therefore, the car stopped at Seasons Restaurant. Scott got off the car first and helped Claudia into
the restaurant.
He ordered some food and chicken soup. The waitress brought some fresh towels for Claudia to dry
her hair.
“We can’t get back to town for now. I think the road should be closed too. Let’s have some food here,
and then I’ll get a hotel for you to spend the night!” Scott offered.
However, Claudia was stunned. She couldn’t get back tonight?
In that case, how would she feed Conrad?
Scott saw the anxiety on her face and went on, “Just for tonight, and I’ll drive you back once the road is
clear tomorrow, alright?”
Scott said in a gentle tone, his deep and sparkling eyes fixed on her face. Claudia could see two little
reflections of her in his pupils.
Claudia dropped her eyes helplessly and sighed. She needed to go back to town. Otherwise, she
would have stayed overnight at the spa.
Scott could see that Claudia was struggling in her mind. The next second, he held her hands. Since
she was in the rain, now Claudia was shivering with cold, her tiny hands freezing.
Scott held her hands tightly. He did it so suddenly that Claudia was shocked. She wanted to draw back
her hands, but Scott just wouldn’t let go.
“I’ll be with you. Don’t worry. Everything will be OK. It’s just one night, and the baby will be fine!”
Scott seemed to have seen through her mind, staring at her with a faint and comforting smile.
Claudia heaved a sigh in her mind. Although she didn’t want to stay, she had no other choice now.
She was soaked and the road closed.
Claudia could only take the advice because it was impossible for her to go back to town through the
sea-crossing bridge by foot.
Just as she was about to nod, a snort came from behind her.
The snort was not loud, but distinct enough for Claudia and Scott to hear. The two looked back at the
same time and saw Ben at the entrance of the restaurant.
Ben seemed to have gone through a long journey. He had that grim look on his face, his piercing eyes
darting between the two of them.
His cold gaze swept across Claudia to Scott as he walked slowly towards them. Then he found that
Scott was holding her hands and narrowed his eyes.
“It seems that you have a lot of free time, Mr. Palmer! Why are you here in the suburbs?”
Ben’s deep voice sent a chill down Claudia’s spine.
Claudia wanted to pull back her hands and struggled, but Scott remained holding her hands tightly and
wouldn’t let go.
The next moment, Scott raised his brows and met Ben’s gaze with a sneer on his face. “I steal a little
time from my busy schedule! But I just couldn’t bear to watch Claudia walking on the road, soaked to
the skin.”
He paused before adding, “I’m just wondering. Have you always treated your wife this way, Mr.
Crawford? If yes, how miserable it is to be your woman!”
