Chapter 36: She Is My Wife
Chapter 36: She Is My Wife
Neither Theodore nor Claudia noticed Ben coming back, both of them startled and frightened by his
abrupt and deep voice.
Theodore froze in astonishment, feeling restless and unsettled. He rose to his feet at once and greeted
Ben flatteringly, “My son-in-law is back!”
It didn’t bother Theodore at all calling Ben his “son-in-law”.
However, under his obsequious manner was a snobbish core.
Ben remained grim, his expression unchanged at all. He didn’t even spare a glance at Theodore, but
paced back and forth steadily in the spacious living room, his voice low and cold.
“If I didn’t know any better, you must have been interested in CCM Project for a long time, Mr. Raba!”
Embarrassed, Theodore didn’t know how to answer Ben and gave a wry smile. “Well, not exactly. It’s
just that the Evans Group is the perfect one to carry out this project. Besides, you must be very clear
about our status quo, Ben!”
Ben looked up, his masculine features exuding ferocity, and he said in a flat but serious tone.
“Does it matter whether I’m clear about it or not?”
No matter the Evans Group went bankrupt or shut down, even if it disappeared from this world
tomorrow, it had nothing to do with Ben.
Theodore was lost for words for a moment.
Standing there awkwardly, Theodore felt as if he was a clown, his cheeks burning with embarrassment.
It was after Theodore paused for a long while that he came up with a reply. “Well, the Evans Group and
the Crawford Group are connected by marriage, so we share weal or woe! Ben, would you please help
us for the sake of it?”
Hardly had Theodore finished his sentence than Ben gave a sneer. He curled his lips contemptuously
and turned to squint at Theodore. “Of course I can help! But is there any relationship between the
Evans Group and you, Mr. Raba?”
“Well...”
For the second time, Theodore was lost for words!
It was widely known that Blair married Theodore after her husband died. Meanwhile, she gave the
whole Evans Group, which belonged to her late ex-husband, to her current husband, and this daring
deed of Blair’s had been denounced by the public.
For all these years, Theodore had been criticized for living off a woman, and people had said many
harsh words against him.
Now that Ben wasn’t going to offer help, there was no need for Theodore to stay, so he said, “I have
some business to attend to. I have to go, Ben.”
Theodore headed for the door while Ben looked at Claudia with his deep eyes. He stared at her for a
few seconds before walking outside.
It didn't occur to Theodore that Ben would follow him out. He felt extremely flattered and turned around
in a hurry, but before he could say anything, Ben pelted him with hailstones of words.
“Don’t ever think of taking advantage of Claudia. She's my wife, not your daughter!”
Ben said bluntly, his voice grim.
Swallowing helplessly, Theodore wanted to retort, but was shut up by Ben’s domineering aura.
Watching Theodore speeding off, Ben leaned against the door, poker-faced.
He looked down slightly, mixed emotions welling up inside him, but at last, he settled down.
When Claudia went upstairs, she received a text message from Kim.
“What happened? I was on a business trip and just came back. I heard that you suffered from an
allergy. What happened exactly?”
“Please reply ASAP! Or I will come to see you. What happened on earth?”
Kim might be one of the few people who truly cared about Claudia.
They were not sisters, but much closer than real sisters.
Claudia replied her text message immediately, but Kim was still worried and called her. “I’d rather not
talk about it via text message. Let’s meet somewhere, Claudia.”
Claudia didn’t expect Kim to say that. Before she made up her mind, Kim’s voice came from the other Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
end of the line. “Let’s have dinner together! My treat! By the way, bring Conrad with you. I’ve bought
many gifts for him!”
Claudia held her phone, hesitating. Ben just came back. The Evans Mansion would be auctioned in the
near future, while she promised Hanna that she would talk to Ben about it and try to raise funds for the
mansion, and tonight might be a great opportunity...
Deep in thought, Claudia didn’t notice Ben approaching her at all, so she was startled when he was
right in front of her and spoke suddenly.
“Go!”
Ben said in a cold and emotionless voice. He walked around Claudia indifferently and went straight
upstairs.
Watching Ben going upstairs, Claudia’s mind went blank for a while before she came to her senses. So
he meant he allowed her to have dinner with Kim...
When Kim arrived at the Crawford Residence by car, Claudia got in with the baby.
Kim had been teasing Conny all the way. Stroking his fair and tender cheek, she exclaimed, “This little
guy looks so beautiful! He takes after you!”
Claudia frowned. He takes after her?
She had looked through the photo album in the study before, feeling that Conrad was the very image of
the young Ben.
There was a huge bag lying on the back seat of Kim’s car, in which there were various toys and clothes
she bought for Conrad.
According to Kim, she wanted to show her love for Conrad as his aunt.
Staring at the huge bag, Claudia wondered how she would take it back home later. She could tell at a
glance that it must be very heavy.
Babbling, the little Conrad was in her arms, his tiny hands playing with her long hair. It seemed that this
little guy was quite fond of hair.
During dinner, Kim asked Claudia about her allergy. “You haven’t told me about it yet. What caused
your skin allergy? You don’t have any allergy problem I remember.”
Kim had known Claudia for years and never saw her have an allergic reaction. This was the first time
ever.
Claudia tried to smooth things over by giving a brief answer, but Kim saw through her little game.
“Come on! Does it have anything to do with Amber? She did something to you so that you had some
allergic reactions, right?”
From what Kim knew of Amber, Amber would totally do such a thing!
Now that Kim hit the bull’s eye, Claudia was speechless.
“See? I knew it! How can she be so evil? No way. You can’t let her off like this because you don’t know
what she will do to you next time! You can’t just let it pass!”
As a hot-tempered girl, Kim couldn’t stand anyone bullying her, so she flared up. Before Claudia could
figure out something to comfort her, Marshall arrived.
The tall and masculine man walked in through the revolving door. He was wearing casual clothes, his
fair and handsome face glowing. The moment he saw Claudia, he gave a warm and charming smile.
Kim waved her hand at the sight of Marshall and called, “Marshall! What a coincidence!”
Marshall came with two male friends of his. Seeing Kim and Claudia, he said something to his friends
hastily before walking towards the two of them.
“Indeed, what a coincidence.”
The tall and slender Marshall stared at Claudia with a faint smile, his calm eyes sparkling. “Claudia,
how have you been these days?”
