Chapter 917
Chapter 917 High School Chronicles: The Separated Siblings
"Nope. It's just a disagreement between two guys. Nothing to worry about." Wesley's lips curled slightly.
Emelie snapped back, "Nothing to worry about? Are you shitting me?"
Wesley paused briefly. He had never heard Emelie curse, not even once.
He realized that she had done it because of him, and a slight smile tugged at his mouth. "Eme, no swearing."
"I'll say what I want! You have the nerve to get into a fight, and now you're telling me not to curse? Hypocrite!" Emelie leaned in closer to check on his injuries, growing angrier the more she saw.
"Seriously, who did this to you? Why were you even fighting?" she asked worriedly.
Wesley didn't want to answer. He moved his aching limbs and said, "Eme, come here and give me a hug."
"You wish!" she yelled. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
Meanwhile, there was William next door.
The doctor tried to apply ointment on William's bruised face. However, William brushed it off with a blank expression.
"No need. You can go," William said.
The doctor hesitated briefly, but didn't dare to say much. He packed up his medical kit and left.
Both boys had similar injuries, and they were nothing serious. Since the security guards had broken up the fight quickly, they only bore surface wounds.
Neither of their doors were shut, so William could hear everything from the other side. He could hear Emelie's voice full of worry and concern while she talked to Wesley.
To William, hearing her words stung more than any physical blow.
The school didn't dare impose any punishment for Wesley and William's fight. They simply informed their parents. Henry no longer had control over William. On the other hand, the Graham family was completely caught off guard. Wesley had always been calm and composed when he was younger. He was never one to lose his temper, let alone get into a physical fight. He hadn't even argued.
What could have pushed him to throw punches on school grounds? He couldn't even wait to deal with outside the school?
Yennifer was leading a quiet life as the matriarch of the Graham family. However, she wouldn't stay on the sidelines. She immediately sent someone to investigate. After all, nothing happens without leaving a trace.
Soon enough, Yennifer found out that the fight had been over a girl.
Well, well. Wesley got into a fight over a girl? Yennifer couldn't help but be amused.
Wesley always had flowers and paper hearts from little girls from kindergarten onwards. Didn't he keep cool and turn them all down?
Yennifer felt a surge of pride. Her son was finally growing up. She wasn't worried about teenage romance affecting Wesley's studies at all.
At Capebatt High School, a handful of students relied on academics to change their futures. Most were wealthy heirs, treating high school as a stepping stone before heading abroad. Wesley's path was already set.
Besides, Yennifer had grown up under the stifling control of her mother. She knew that kind of misery and didn't want to pass it down to her son.
If Wesley wanted to date, she would let him. It was perfectly normal for teenagers to make friends and test
boundaries.
Besides, Yennifer was an open-minded mother. She wouldn't interfere with or restrict Wesley's choices.
Still, she couldn't help but wonder. Who could have made the two most prominent heirs in Capebatt City fight? How extraordinary could the girl be?
Yennifer's curiosity got the best of her, and she looked into it further. Maybe she'd even take a look at that girl for herself.
It wasn't easy for Yennifer to go out unnoticed. She always had to disguise herself to avoid being recognized by the Four Families. In the past decade, she had only stepped out of her home about three to five times.
Yennifer made careful preparations. She drove a modest car to the school gate and patiently waited. Eventually, she spotted Wesley walking out with Emelie after school.
Yennifer felt an undeniably harmonious air at the sight of the two. It was as if they were meant to be.
She was pleasantly surprised and took an instant liking to Emelie, who seemed sweet and charming. If Wesley and Emelie were serious, she wouldn't mind if they got married someday.
Yennifer followed them in her car all the way to Emelie's house. After Wesley left, Yennifer put on her sunglasses, got out of the car, and entered the family's store.
She pretended to browse as she secretly watched Emelie help her mother stock shelves. She was delighted to see that Emelie was a beautiful and well-mannered girl.
Of course, Emelie also noticed Yennifer too. It was hard not to notice a sophisticated woman loading her shopping basket with items. She clearly looked like someone who didn't belong in their modest neighborhood.
Emelie couldn't help but comment, "Ma'am, this cake is freshly made, but it's only good for three days in the fridge. Are you sure you'll be able to finish all of them?"
Vennifer glanced at Emelie through her sunglasses. "Oh, it's freshly made? Did you bake it?"
"My family made it. You can try a sample first before buying. But if you live alone, I wouldn't recommend buying so many," Emelie said as she cut a small piece for Yennifer to try.
"I have plenty of people at home. We can finish them. I see from your uniform you go to Capebatt High School? My son goes there too," Yennifer said as she studied Emelie.
Emelie smiled. "What a coincidence."
"You're a very pretty young lady." Yennifer was growing more fond of Emelie with each glance.
"Not at all, ma'am. You're the one with real elegance." Emelie blushed slightly.
"You've got such a sweet tongue. The cake is delicious. I'll take these. Let's ring them up." Yennifer's face brimmed with a smile.
Emelie scanned the items. "That'll be 153, but I'll give it to you for 150. Come back anytime if you like them."
"I certainly will."
After Yennifer paid, she reached for the bags. However, Emelie noticed Yennifer's manicure and realized it might be hard for her to carry.
"Ma'am, did you drive here? Let me help you carry these to your car," Emelie offered.
"That's lovely of you," Yennifer said.
Yennifer led Emelie to the car, and she placed the bags inside and waved goodbye.
Just as Yennifer was about to drive off, she spotted a middle-aged man pulling up on a motorcycle.
Emelie called out, "Dad!"
Yennifer instinctively looked over. The moment she saw the man, her face drained of color.
Yennifer returned to the Graham Residence, feeling as if her soul had been taken away.
Of course, she recognized Xander's bodyguard.
The unexpected encounter left her cold to the bone. She knew that his daughter had been adopted by Edward and
his wife.
Years ago, Yennifer sought refuge with the Graham family. Emelie was peacefully asleep in her crib a home. But suddenly, she vanished in the middle of the night.
Yennifer begged Norman to help her search for Emelie, and his investigation quickly led to Edward. It was confirmed that he had taken Emelie.
Yennifer had every intention of bringing Emelie back. But as Yennifer arrived at the Hoven Residence in
Alderbrook, she saw how much the couple adored her daughter.
At that moment, she hesitated. It was too risky to keep Emelie close.
Despite Yeniffer hiding within the Graham family, it didn't guarantee her safety. If Yennifer kept both her son and daughter near, any threat to her would mean losing everything.
As such, Yeniffer reluctantly left Emelie with the Hovens.
In the early days, she would visit Alderbrook occasionally to ensure Emeli's safety. However, Norman eventually
spoke up.
Alderbrook was a small community where people easily noticed things. Yennifer's frequent visits could raise suspicion. It wouldn't be long before someone with bad intentions connected the dots.
If word got back to the Four Families, her efforts to separate and protect her children would have been in vain.
Norman was right, and Yennifer stopped visiting upon realizing the danger. Instead, she relied on her people to keep tabs on the Hovens.
The updates that she got from her men were sparse. She didn't know that the Hovens had moved from Alderbrook to the city. They even bought a home and opened a small grocery store.
She had no idea that Emelie had enrolled in Capebatt High School. She was unaware that Emelie had crossed paths
with Wesley and even entered a relationship with him.
It was truly a twist of fate. A terrible, cruel twist of fate.
Yennifer knew that she had to sever Wesley's and Emelie's relationship before things spiraled out of control.
She was a woman of swift action, so as soon Wesley returned home that evening, she called him in. It was time for a serious mother-son conversation.
Yennifer didn't mince her words and got straight to the point. "Wes, you cannot be with Eme. You two need to
break up immediately!"
Wesley was confused.
Yennifer continued, "A while ago, your grandmother reached out. She wants you to inherit the Filo family estate. Your stepfather and I have already discussed it. You'll drop out of Capebatt High School, and we'll leave for Faldoria immediately."
Wesley stood there, puzzled. He couldn't fathom the sudden decisions from Yennifer. They seemed completely out
of the blue.
He furrowed his brow and asked, "Why?"
Yennifer looked at her son, who had features strikingly similar to her late husband's. She clenched her teeth, not sugarcoating her words.
She said, "Do you remember what I told you before? That you have a sister, raised by another family in the
countryside?"
"Yeah," Wesley replied.
"Eme... she's your sister. Your biological sister," Yennifer said.
For the first time in his life, Wesley felt as though his chest had been hollowed out.
