Chapter 833
Chapter 833 Entangling Yourself With an Old Woman
When Elias saw that she was still sleeping soundly, he carefully slipped out of the room.
He pulled out his phone. When he saw that the caller was his secretary, he answered the call.
"Elijah, are you trying to forfeit your quarterly bonus?" Elias said.
"N-No, not at all!" Elijah stuttered.
Elias rubbed his throbbing temples and asked in a softer tone, "Then why are you calling me so early? Are you looking for trouble?"
Elijah was on the verge of tears. "But Mr. Undvike, Beathan was released on bail yesterday. Don't you want to know about this immediately?"
Elias' hand paused mid-rub. The fatigue disappeared from his face and his gaze became sharp in an instant. "What did you just say?"
"Beathan has been released from the detention center. He apparently has some kind of illness and applied for bail on medical grounds," Elijah explained.
Elias pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek. "This happened yesterday, and you're only telling me now? You really don't want that bonus, do you?"
"W-We only just received the news.... Mr. Undvike, what should we do?" Elijah asked.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
"I'll discuss it with Emelie and let you know." Elias ended the call and immediately dialed Emelie's number.
He didn't care if he was going to wake her up. What he didn't want for himself, he was all too happy to inflict on others. This was the life motto of the ever-difficult Elias Undvike.
As expected, Emelie was awakened by the call. She was still jet-lagged and had just managed to doze off.
She suppressed her irritation and asked, "What is it, Mr. Undvike?"
"Why isn't Beathan dead yet?" Elias asked.
"If he were that easy to kill, he wouldn't be Beathan," Emelie replied.
Elias was about to say something more when, suddenly, a hand reached out to take his phone. He turned around and saw that Ashley had gotten up as well.
Without even looking at him, Ashley took the phone and spoke to Emelie. "If he can exploit legal loopholes to get out, I can use the law to send him back to prison."
Initially, Emelie wanted to tell Elias that she had learned of Beathan's fatal weakness from Natalia. But after hearing what Ashley said, she paused and swallowed her words.
Instead, she said, "That would be best. Ashley, we're counting on you this time."
Perhaps this matter could be the catalyst to help Ashley regain her strength. For Ashley's sake, Emelie was willing to let Beathan have his few days of triumph.
Ashley ended the call and tossed Elias' phone back to him.
He immediately followed after her. "Are you planning to take Beathan to court?"
Ashley's expression remained cold. "If he owes Emelie a blood debt, does he not owe me one too? He'll pay with at least half of his worthless life."
"Well said!" Elias loved seeing Ashley so fierce and unyielding. She looked ready to take on anything that came her way. This was the Ashley that he knew and adored.
He eagerly offered, "I can be your driver, your bodyguard, and your secretary. I'll be with you every step of the way.
"There's no need for that." Ashley walked into the bathroom and wanted to close the door, but Elias blocked it with a grin on his face.
"Yes, there is. I'm your husband. I should be supporting you every step of the way," he said.
Ashley stared at his face intently.
Three years had passed, and the boy she remembered had grown into a young man, now maturing even further. Compared to three years ago, he was also a bit thinner. His features were even more defined and striking now, and he was dazzlingly handsome. He was only around 28 years old, right in the prime of his life.
Ashley said indifferently, "I just don't understand."
"What don't you understand? Tell me, and I'll explain it to you right away," Elias replied.
Ashley said, "When you married me, it was for my family's inheritance. During the three years I was in a coma, you siphoned off a considerable amount as my husband. I'll consider that as compensation for the youth that you've lost, and I won't ask for it back.
"So why are you still entangling yourself with me, an aging woman who will never be able to bear children again?"
