Wife by Day, Boss by Night

Chapter 73

Chapter 73

“I’m catching the flight back home tonight.” Natalie’s voice brooked no argument.

After hanging up the phone, she immediately had Rosie inform Miller of her leave. Since Miller had no

scenes planned for her for the time, she had to go back.

After hearing that Natalie was leaving the set, Miller wrapped up the scene he was working on and

hurried back to the hotel. When he got there, Natalie was gone with her phone switched

off.

“Did she tell you where she was going?” Miller asked Rosie in anxiety.

Rosie replied helplessly. “She didn’t even let me book her flight. She was gone by the time I came to

you. She just said there was an emergency at home and that she had to leave. She didn’t specify how

long she’d be gone.”

Miller paced back and forth, agitated and helpless. Finally, he pulled out his phone and stared at

Brian’s contact.

At the Howard residence, it was past seven, but Gracia hadn’t shown up yet. Calls went unanswered,

prompting Davis to summon Brian to his study for a stern inquiry.

“Why isn’t Gracia here?”

“She’s hurt.““Brian replied nonchalantly.

“Hurt? Why haven’t I heard anything about this before?” Davis frowned, concern lacing his voice. “Is it

serious?”

“Not too serious. She’s been to the hospital,” Brian said, his attention drifting towards the window.

“You should have told me earlier. Gracia was supposed to be the star of tonight’s dinner party. She’s

the main guest!” Seeing Brian’s lack of attention, Davis slammed his hand on the desk in frustration.

Brian met Davis‘ gaze. “I never said I would marry her. Isn’t it a bit unfair to have given the Wright

family such false hopes?” he quietly challenged.

Davis fell silent for a long while before finally asking. “Are you still thinking of Natalie?”

“Today is Nate’s birthday. I’d rather not discuss this,” Brian replied with a hint of impatience.

Right after Brian finished speaking, Davis flipped the coffee table furiously. Hot coffee spilled on Brian’s

clothes, cups and pots shattered, and it was a mess on the floor.

“Mr. Howard…” The butler started, startled, but was cut off before he could say more.

“Get out!” Davis bellowed, pointing towards the door.

Brian took a deep breath, pulled a handkerchief from his pocket, stepped forward, and offered it to his

grandfather with a gentle voice, “Careful, Grandpa. It’s not worth getting upset over. Also, let me repeat

it. Today is Nate’s birthday. Whatever makes him happy, that’s what matters.” With that, Brian turned

and left the room. Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

“Let the guests know the party’s been postponed. They should head home.” Davis decided immediately

after Brian’s departure. “Without Gracia, there’s no reason to celebrate.”

“But Mr. Howard, today is Mr. Nate’s birthday, and he…” the butler began, troubled.

“In time, Brian will have his children with Gracia!” Davis said emphatically, each word heavy with intent.

Down the hall, Brian heard his grandfather’s rage and smirked sardonically.

In the eyes of the Howard family. Nate would always be the illegitimate child.

But no matter what, Nathan was his son by blood. The affection Brian bestowed upon Nate was the

boy’s solid standing in the Howard family. He would never have another child in this. lifetime.

As the guests trickled away, Brian stood by the study window, looking down at the back door where a

small figure sat on the steps, chin propped on hands, a look of anticipation as he gazed in the direction

of the road.
