Chapter 141

Brian reached out to steady her, “Maybe we should swing by the hospital for an X–ray, you took a

pretty hard fall.”

“It’s fine,” Madelyn gently pushed away Brian’s hand, shaking her head slightly as she replied in a soft

voice, “I’m okay, I know my body well.”

Brian followed her into the elevator and walked her to her door. Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.

Standing in front of the door, Madelyn’s hands trembled as she tried to punch in the code, taking an

eternity to press each button.

“Let me do it.” Brian sighed quietly, stepping forward.

“It’s the same as at your place.” Madelyn said, stepping aside, her gaze lowered, her voice a whisper.

Brian glanced at her, but Madelyn just stared blankly at the door as if her soul had left her body. Brian

helped her open the door, but Madelyn simply stood frozen in place.

“Madelyn,” Brian called her name softly.

“Oh…” Madelyn looked up, offering a somewhat awkward smile.

Her purse seemed to weigh a ton, her steps unsteady as she walked past Brian and through the door.

Brian frowned, watching as Madelyn went inside.

“I’ll let you know as soon as there’s any news,” he said after a moment of silence, his voice low. “Okay,”

Madelyn nodded, walking slowly toward her room.

Brian could tell something was off with Madelyn’s mood, but with the results still pending, there

shouldn’t be any major issues in the next forty–eight hours.

He withdrew his gaze, raised his hand, and closed the door.

The moment it shut, a muffled thud of something heavy falling to the ground came from inside.

Brian paused, then quickly reopened the door and rushed in.

Natalie got up in the morning and sat on the toilet, surveying Brian’s bathroom carefully.

On the sink counter lay a towel, an electric toothbrush, an electric shaver, and a mouthwash cup.

Below, a pair of men’s shower slippers and a pair of miniature ones, all in shades of grey. His room

held no trace of a woman’s belongings.

She turned and opened the cabinet where the tissues were stored, finding only unopened packs. of

tissues and no feminine products.”

Even if Madelyn had left, she couldn’t have cleaned up so thoroughly as if she’d never been there,

could she? Hadn’t they been sleeping in the same room?

Natalie frowned, puzzled. She stood up, searching for a spare toothbrush and mouthwash cup she

could use but found none.

“Natalie, are you awake?” Sadle suddenly called from outside the door.

Natalie turned to open it, only to find Sadle holding a sleepy Nate who grinned toothily at her.

Nate had insisted on seeing Natalie as soon as he heard she was there, hardly awake but now content

knowing he wasn’t dreaming.

Sadie brought over a new toothbrush and towel, and she cheerfully arranged their toiletries in the

bathroom.

The sun shone on the neatly placed wash items. Looking at the family’s things all together, Sadie felt a

warm happiness for them.

Despite Natalie and Brian’s argument the previous night, it seemed the quarrel may have cleared the

tension, and they had reconciled.

Natalie fetched a small stool for Nate, so he could stand on it and brush his teeth alongside

her.

Mid–brush, Nate leaned over and pecked Natalie on the corner of her mouth, causing her to

start in surprise.

“Mine tastes like oranges, and yours is peachy,” Nate giggled, pointing to the frothy toothpaste in his

mouth.

Natalie’s toothpaste was sweet and fragrant.

Nate had dreamed of that same scent last night. To his delight, it had become a reality first thing in the

morning!
