Chapter 467
Chapter 467
"Alright, I'll be right over."
Hanging up the phone, Gilbert immediately rushed to Pinecrest Villa.
This wasn't his first visit because this was where Sawyer lived.
Pressing the doorbell, it was Sawyer who answered.ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
"Mr. Gilbert," Sawyer stepped aside, saying, "please, come in."
"Thanks." Gilbert nodded, stepping inside.
"You're here."
Inside, Francis was sitting on the couch, waiting for him.
"Big bro," Gilbert flashed a smile, looking around, "What's up? You're being all mysterious."
Francis' expression was serious as he stretched his arms and stood up from the couch. Gilbert quickly picked up a cane lying nearby and handed it to him. "Big bro, here."
"Thanks." Francis took it, casting a glance at his brother, "Follow me upstairs."
"Oh, okay."
Gilbert felt a chill, sensing something wasn't quite right.
He followed his brother upstairs.
Francis led the way, silent, stopping in front of a door.
"Big bro?" Gilbert was confused.
Francis nodded. "I want you to meet someone..."
Taking a deep breath, he reached for the doorknob and gently turned it... the door opened.
Gilbert looked inside.
It was a moderately sized room, a bit messy, but it looked like someone had tried to tidy up by arranging items neatly around the edges. There was a carpet in the center.
On the carpet, a little boy, about three years old, was sitting cross-legged, completely absorbed in playing with LEGO bricks.
What...? Gilbert was stunned, looking up at Francis.
Before he could speak, Francis carefully closed the door, not wanting to startle the child inside.
"Big bro?" Gilbert was holding his breath, shock spreading across his face.
So many questions, yet unsure where to begin.
Who was this child? Where did he
come from? Why was he hidden away in Sawyer's place? Seeing his brother's grave and cautious
demeanor, could it be, was this child his?
Francis looked at his brother and slightly smiled.
"Just as you're thinking, he's mine."
Instantly, Gilbert's eyes widened, disbelief shattering his composure. How could this be? How was this even possible?
He remembered.
Ever since waking up, his brother had been having Sawyer look for someone. It seemed now, it was this child? Perhaps, and the child's mother too? You can't deny a woman's intuition. It's eerily accurate.
Lately, Caroline had been suspecting Francis of having an affair, even though she hadn't found any concrete evidence...
After digesting the news, Gilbert looked at his brother and asked, "What are you planning to do about this?"
Thinking it over, he rephrased his question.
"Or maybe, I should ask, how do you plan to treat Caroline?"
Before Francis could answer, Gilbert lowered his voice, yet spoke firmly, "Big bre don't forget your promise to Caroline! Without her, you wouldn't be here today!"
Francis frowned, his distinguished face devoid of emotion.
"Calm down. This child was an accident. I never intended to betray Caroline, nor did I ever think of leaving her."
Is that so?
Gilbert swallowed hard, trusting in his brother's character.
He pointed towards the room. "Big bro, what's really going on?"
"Come with me to the study," Francis gestured, "I called you here to explain."
"Alright, big bro."
The story dated back to the car accident that had left Francis in a coma, turning him into a vegetable.
It was clear that the accident wasn't
just a simple mishap. Content
Gilbert and Sylvia Johnson had their suspicions over the years, conducting their investigations in secret.
But to little avail. Even the police's months-long investigation at the time hadn't uncovered any leads worth pursuing.
Now, hearing his brother's words, Gilbert's expression darkened, "So, they haven't given up after all!"
