Chapter 19
Caleb shot Vincent a frown, asking. “Why is Kristin here?”
“Well, look who’s all caring about her,” Vincent said in a low voice, stepping up to Caleb. “I remember you were at that dinner party, then suddenly off the radar, meeting someone, and now Kristin’s child… Don’t tell me it’s yours.”
Over the years, Vincent couldn’t shake off the feeling and kept digging into who could’ve been the guy who slept with Kristin.
He had a few suspects, but Caleb topped the list, having the opportunity and motive.
Then, when she was Ms. Turner, Kristin had her fair share of admirers.
For Caleb, Kristin was the one who got away with the unattainable dream.
For many others, she was like the pure white jasmine.
Regrettably, none of these people perceived Kristin as the deceitful, unclean, and lowly individual she truly was.
Kristin looked up at Caleb in fear, thinking if he was the man from that night.
Vincent must have dug deep because he wouldn’t accuse his brother–in–law for no reason, especially with Eve right there.
But Caleb did not explain.
Summer blinked her eyes, staring intensely at Caleb. “Are you my daddy, sir?”
Caleb glanced at Summer, then rested his eyes on Kristin.
If he admitted it, would Kristin then be his?
“Kristin…” Caleb reached out to help her up, but Kristin instinctively dodged, looking at Caleb
with terror.
Was Caleb the man who had forced her that night?
“It’s you.” Seeing Caleb’s silence, Vincent punched him in the face. “How dare you treat my sister like this! Kristin is a piece of work, always needing a man by her side… even went as far
as having your kid, huh…
Vincent was losing it.
Caleb’s cold eyes met Vincent’s. “Think about your sister when you’re trash–talking Kristin. She knows best how Milo came to be.”
Eve averted her gaze, seething with anger at Kristin.
Kristin held Summer tightly, her breathing erratic.
Was Caleb the man from that night?
Tears of pain rolled down as Kristin looked down.
Five years ago, when she was dragged to court by the Turner and FitzGerald families, no one stood up for her, including Caleb.
To Kristin, Caleb was just like Tam and the rest, villains through and through.
“I get it now. You’re suddenly so eager to divorce me because you already knew this bitch got out.” Eve sneered sarcastically.
She slapped Kristin, her eyes burning with rage at Caleb. “Let me tell you, Caleb. Even if we divorce, I won’t let you and that woman off easy.”
Caleb frowned, shielding Kristin. “I’m taking her with me. Lay a finger on her again, I dare you
“So, this little bastard is your son.” Eve, too, was going off the rails, grabbing Caleb’s collar and shouting. “Haven’t I been decent to you all these years? When the Gladstones hit rock bottom, my dad was there to lend a hand. And this is how you repay me!”
Caleb looked stern and said nothing.
Kristin’s face was swollen and burning with pain.
“Mommy… does it hurt?” Summer asked through tears.
Kristin shook her head. She was used to it.
Vincent looked at Kristin with disgust. “You want to take her with you? Just try.”
“Vincent! Hitting a woman, are you even a man?” Caleb grabbed Vincent’s collar.
“What’s all this racket? Get in here!” Holcomb bellowed as Vincent and Caleb were about to come to blows over Kristin.
“Dad…” Vincent quickly lowered his head and walked over with Eve.Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
“Caleb, you too,” Holcomb said with a deep look at Caleb, then turned his gaze to Kristin. “As for that woman, send her home first. It’s inappropriate for her to stay with us.”
“Dad…” Vincent wanted to keep Kristin under his watchful eye. After all, he only felt secure. when she was in his sight.
But Vincent didn’t dare to contradict Holcomb’s words.
With a threatening glare at Kristin, Vincent signaled his assistant to send her away.
“Caleb, I heard you’re hell–bent on divorcing Eve?” Holcomb inquired.
Caleb remained silent.
“Is there something wrong with Eve?” Holcomb pressed.
Caleb looked down. “It’s not her. It’s me.”
“Dad! He’s been with that slut Kristin all along, and Kristin’s bastard child is Caleb’s!” Eve
believed the child was Caleb’s. His behavior was practically an admission.
“Shut up!” Holcomb silenced Eve.
Swallowing her grievances, Eve kept quiet as ordered.
“Caleb, marriage is no child’s play. The Gladstone family is running into some financial trouble. Your dad came to me just yesterday. Go home and discuss it with your parents. You’re an adult and should know better than to act on impulse.”
Holcomb subtly reminded Caleb, giving him a way out.
Caleb’s brow furrowed, his fingers slowly clenching into a fist.
The FitzGerald family had used business to pressure the Gladstone family for years.
“Look, when it comes to Kristin and that bastard child, I don’t care how you handle it, but you better ensure it doesn’t blow back on the FitzGerald or the Gladstone families‘ rep, got it?” Holcomb warned. “Show me what you’re made of. How you deal with Kristin and the little one. is on you, so impress me.”
Holcomb had put Caleb on the spot, making him prove his chops by dealing with Kristin himself if he wanted help getting the Gladstone family out of this hot mess.
