Chapter 101 The Baby Hope Royston Is Carrying Is Not Yours
Christopher immediately stood up, his face darkening as he glared down at me for a long time. Finally, he gritted his teeth and spat out, “You’ve got your head in the clouds!”
Annoyed by him, I rose to my feet too, and walked toward the guest room, where Brenda and Evelyn were huddled, whispering. “Spill it, what’s going on?” I said.
Evelyn straightened, a triumphant gleam in her eyes as she ignored me and addressed
Christopher, “Christopher! Do you know, the baby Hope is carrying might not even be yours?!”
The air seemed to freeze in an instant.
Fuming. I lunged
to to slap her, but this time Evelyn was prepared. She pushed me away and threw an envelope at me. She sneered, “Take a look, how will you explain this?”
The envelope landed at my feet, but Christopher’s hand darted out and snatched it before I could react. His fingers, nimble and tense, tore open the envelope and revealed a few photographs.
In an instant, Christopher’s lips twisted into a frown, and his expression grew chillingly cold. His seemingly gentle features now harbored a storm of anger.
My heart sank to the bottom.
For a moment, I was immobilized, then I reached out for the photos, but as soon as my fingertips touched the paper, Christopher yanked them away. His movement, heavy with hostility, left my hand suspended awkwardly.
“Christopher, you see it now, don’t you?” Evelyn’s lips curled up in smug satisfaction as she softly said, “She has been cheating for a long time. The baby she is carrying is probably Cecil’s.”
While Christopher was distracted, I snatched the photos and took a look. It was a picture taken at the entrance of at hotel room. The two people standing at the door were indeed Cecil and me.
When did Cecil and I ever go to a hotel together?
My mind went blank for a moment, then I realized what happened. “Evelyn Valence, you’ve really gone to great lengths to slander me. Doctored photos, huh?.”
Evelyn recited the room number. “Forgotten? 0312, the hotel room you stayed at last year during your business trip to France. If you don’t remember, the finance department can find your reimbursement records.”
Suddenly, memories flooded back. During that business trip abroad, I had attended a design event and had gotten too drunk. I was feeling awful when I returned to the hotel. Later, Elissa called me, saying someone would bring me some hangover cures. I was so groggy that I received the medicine without even looking at the person. It must have been. Cecil.
Cecil never mentioned this to me after he returned.

In just that brief minute, someone with ill intentions had taken a photo and kept it until now.
I collected my thoughts and said calmly, “A photo at a hotel door, and you draw conclusions from that?”
Evelyn’s words were vicious. “What else? Should I provide bedroom photos? Even when Cecil was abroad, you two could meet in private, and you still have the nerve to claim the baby is Christopher’s!”
Brenda pretended to mediate, “Evelyn, let Christopher speak. This is about a man’s pride. Don’t make a scene.”
Well played. One plays the bad cop, the other the good cop! Yet every word was a dagger aimed at me.
The anger that had been building up inside me flared up. I stared at Brenda, my tone icy. “Weren’t you the one demanding evidence at the hospital yesterday? How can these pictures be solid proof?”
“Ms. Royston, this is entirely different,” Brenda protested, her stubbornness masked by a gentle tone. “The evidence you brought yesterday only showed that Evelyn had touched Mr. Valence’s medicine. What does that prove? She might just wanted to give it to him. But you, alone with a man at a hotel door–you’re both adults, what else could you be doing?”
I picked up the glass from the coffee table and splashed it right in Brenda’s face, sneering, “Brenda, say one more word, and it won’t just be water next time.”
Evelyn, who secretly slept with her stepfather while posing as the dutiful daughter, was instantly furious. She shouted, “How dare you treat my mother like this! Are you crazy?”
I grabbed another glass and drenched Evelyn’s face without hesitation. “Any more remarks?”
Evelyn’s delicate makeup was now a ruined mess, and she looked at me in disbelief. “Hope Royston!”
Brenda, taken aback by my unexpected aggression, immediately teared up, her voice breaking as she turned to Christopher, “Christopher, are you really siding with an outsider now? I am your father’s legitimate wife, and you’re letting her humiliate me like this?”
Christopher’s face was dark and brooding, his eyes like a bottomless icy pool. A single glance from him sent a chill down my spine.
I could see that he actually believed them.
A bitter laugh bubbled up inside me but refused to escape. I accidentally let the glass slip from my hand, and it shattered on the floor. I took a step back, dazed,
That was when Christopher tore the photos in his hand into four pieces, his voice cold and hard. “Brenda Valence, you are an elder, and out of respect, I should hold my tongue, but I must speak plainly. You might have been lying in bed for too long and gotten confused. You are my father’s wife, but Hope is mine, and she is the closest person to me! What’s wrong with standing by her?”
Christopher’s words were laden with suppressed rage. We were all stunned by his declaration–Brenda, Evelyn, and myself.
Not only Brenda and Evelyn but even I was stunned by his words.

Christopher had always been suspicious of my relationship with Cecil, and those photos should have deepened his doubts. But it seemed he chose to believe me.
Evelyn pointed at me, livid and incredulous. ‘Christopher, are you crazy? Hope Royston has been involved with another man, and you’re turning against my mother?”
Christopher stood in front of me, his presence overwhelming, his voice a deep warning “She is my wife. Evelyn Valence, you don’t get to walk all over her just because you want to. If you’re going to frame someone, at least have
some restraint.”
Evelyn hesitated, then, feigning deep offense, pointed to herself and began to cry. “T… If it weren’t for you, my mother and I wouldn’t bother with this mess! Fine! Today, let’s say we overstepped!”
Brenda also looked at Christopher, shaking her head, saying, “Christopher, you have disappointed me greatly. But it’s okay. I understand you just can’t accept the truth right now.”
With that, Brenda and Evelyn turned to leave.
A cold smile touched my lips as I watched their dramatic exit. Once they were gone, I heard Christopher’s icy, bone-
chilling voice in the air.
He said. “Are you satisfied with this?”Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
I froze, slowly turning to look at Christopher, my throat tightening. “What do you mean?”
Christopher picked up a piece of the torn photo from the floor, the fragment showing a side profile of me. He brushed it gently with his thumb, his eyes filled with an obsessive determination. “I’ve made up my mind. I don’t want anything else, just you”
