When fate plays its hand 926

Chapter 0926

Paul came looking for Miranda after asking a waiter for directions.

Unexpectedly, he saw Wyatt chasing Miranda just as he approached. Paul blurted out those words in that moment of urgency when he saw Wyatt reaching out to grab her.

Wyatt’s hand froze in midair.

Meanwhile, Miranda was momentarily stunned. Then, she walked toward Paul with a smile. ” Dr. Jefferson!”

Paul sized her up to ensure that she hadn’t been harmed before letting out a sigh of relief.” Why did you come outside? Isn’t it cold out here?”

His tone was gentle, a stark contrast to the way he had just berated Wyatt moments ago.

“It was a little stuffy inside, so I came out for some air. I didn’t expect to encounter a mad dog here. Had I known, I wouldn’t have come out.”

Miranda’s clear expression of disgust stopped short of pointing at Wyatt and calling him a mad dog directly.

Wyatt gritted his teeth in anger. Suddenly, he sneered. “I was wondering whose student would dare to be so brazen. No wonder. It turns out that you’re Dr. Jefferson’s student.

“Paul, it’s been a while since we’ve met. I wasn’t aware you’ve taken in such a beautiful young student. Teaching her… must be quite rewarding, right? Come to think of it, you always seem to be surrounded by beautiful women. I can’t help but envy your good fortune.”

Wyatt clearly meant to drag Paul’s name in the mud with his sarcastic remarks.

Earlier this year, both of them competed for the same major national project. Wyatt lost to Paul, and things ended on a sour note.

Later, they crossed paths during the selection for the Top Ten Most Influential Young Scientists, where Wyatt faced another humiliating defeat. Their hostility was thus cemented.

Wyatt was based in Echo Bay, while Paul worked in Jandersville. They rarely met more than a few times throughout the year, so Wyatt had no chance to settle the score with Paul.

How could he not take full advantage of it now that the opportunity presented itself to him?

Wyatt’s gaze darted between the two of them mockingly. “Dr. Jefferson, I thought you were honorable and virtuous. Turns out that you’re just picky. You only go for those who are young and beautiful. Speaking of which, we’re old friends. Why not share her with others? The more, the merrier!”

Before Paul could raise his fist, Miranda’s slap landed on Wyatt’s cheek first. A crisp sound

rang out, and the air seemed to freeze over at that moment.

A few seconds later, Wyatt’s eyes widened in disbelief. “How dare you hit me?”

“Yes, I hit you. What, do I need to schedule it in advance?”

“You bitch! How dare you lay a hand on me? You’re nothing but a scheming harlot who sleeps her way up in academia!”

He raised his hand to slap Miranda, but Paul intercepted him and flung his hand aside. Wyatt lost his balance and stumbled a few steps backward.

Miranda sneered, “What a pathetic man!”

“You-”

She continued, “Dr. Saberton, this slap was to warn you to watch your mouth, especially when speaking to women. How could you spew such vile nonsense as a professor, an expert, and a scholar?

“Where’s your decency and upbringing? Do you not have the most basic manners and ethics of being human? Did you feed them all to the dogs?”

Wyatt sputtered, “Who do you think you are to lecture me?” novelbin

“That’s right, I’m lecturing you. Can’t you tell?”

“Do you dare to deny that you got your invitation through connections with men? That’s the reason you’re here at this summit!”

Paul snapped, “Shut your filthy trap!”

Wyatt’s eyes darted around when he saw that Paul was angered. Discreetly, he pressed a button on his phone that was in his pocket.

“Admit it, Miranda is your sugar baby. To be more precise, she’s a sugar baby you’re sharing. Paul, you really are shameless! I never expected someone like you, who prides himself on being an upright gentleman, to stoop so low!”
