What Separates Me and You

Chapter 90 That’s Probably It in This Life

Josephine fell silent for a couple of seconds, then she opened the door and got into the car.

Lewis was next to her. She could clearly sense his gaze on her. It was as if he wanted to cut her to pieces.

Josephine hung her head. She didn’t dare look up at Lewis’s expression.

Fortunately, Lewis said nothing as well.

Conrad also didn’t dare to even make a sound. He did his best to minimize his presence and drove steadily.

The silence in the car was deafening, so much so that Josephine could even hear her own breathing.

The car was driven slowly and steadily in the direction of their home. Josephine watched from the corner of her eyes as the scenery at night moved backward outside the car. As she got closer to home, she started to get nervous.

40 minutes later, the car stopped outside the entrance of the mansion.

Conrad very sensibly got out of the car and left, leaving the couple alone.

Lewis still didn’t say anything.

Josephine bit her lip. She plucked up her courage and turned to steal a glance at him. He was leaning in his seat, completely hidden in the dark. She could only see his silhouette. She Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.

extended her hand in hesitation and tugged at his sleeve.

Only then did Lewis turn his head over, and his line of sight landed on her face.

Josephine hung her head.

Lewis reached out and lifted her face. “What have you guys done in the past three days?”

Josephine’s body stiffened. Her mind could not help but recall all the things that had happened in the past three days. Her head began to hurt again.

Josephine raised her hand and explained to him, “Avery and I didn’t do anything at all. We were kidnapped. That person-”

“I know who he is. What I’m asking is, what have you guys done?” Lewis cut her off.

Josephine’s body shook, and her eyes gradually widened.

He knew? He actually knew. However, for three days, three full days, he didn’t come looking for her at all.

He even asked her what she had done with Seth in the past three days.

She should have been used to it. She should have been used to his disinterest and his indifference. However, what he said still made her heart ache and bleed.

She smirked, then she suddenly laughed.

She was laughing at herself for thinking too highly of herself and how unbelievably worthless her years of adoration for him were.

She was laughing because Seth was right about her. She was truly pathetic.

“Answer me.”

Josephine looked deeply at that face that was in the dark. She suppressed the dull pain in her heart, raised her hand, and signed, “What else can a man and a woman do when they’re alone? “She signed every word clearly to him, “We’ve done everything.”

Lewis suddenly grabbed her jaw tightly. Josephine’s face was scrunched up in pain.

“Is that so?” He suddenly got closer to her. His face appeared in the light as well. “What did you guys do? Show me.”

Josephine was stunned. She looked at him in a daze, and her chest was aching so much as if someone was grabbing her heart. She felt a stabbing pain in her chest.

She sighed, “You’re the one who taught me everything, so you’ve already seen it all, haven’t you?”

Lewis’s expression gradually darkened, and he started to lose his calm appearance as well.

“Was it by choice?”

Josephine pursed her lips, then smiled with difficulty. Seeing his darkened expression, she suddenly wanted to see what he would look like after his mask of calmness was completely unveiled.

No matter how much he disliked something, he absolutely would not let another person touch it as long as it was his. Otherwise, he would be insulted.

She stared right at him. With the firm decision to perish together with him, she nodded.

However, it was unfortunate that all Josephine heard was him inhaling roughly. Then, he suddenly opened the door, grabbed her hand, and yanked her out of the car.

Josephine was yanked so roughly by him that she missed her footing when she got out of the car, so she fell hard to the ground and felt a sharp pain in her knees.

He, however, didn’t even look back. He just continued walking forward while dragging her hand. Josephine stumbled to get up and to catch up with him.

Lewis pulled her into the bathroom, then threw her into the bathtub.

The bathtub was filled with water, but it was freezing.

Before she could get up, he grabbed her jaw and pushed her back in.

The freezing water kept going into her nose and throat. Josephine felt suffocated, and her lungs were about to burst. She instinctively struggled in the water, flailing both her arms and legs. The floor was covered in water that she splashed out of the bathtub.

After she struggled for a little while, Lewis grabbed her collar and yanked her out of the water.

She desperately gasped for air, and quite a bit of water came out of her nose and mouth.

“Tell me, was it by choice?” Lewis asked again.

Josephine opened her eyes, but her vision was blurred by the water flowing down from the top of her head. She did her best to look at Lewis’s face but could not see clearly at all.

“Was it by choice?” he repeated his question.

Josephine still nodded.

As expected, Lewis pushed her into the water again.

This time, Josephine didn’t struggle anymore. She lay in there and let the cold water drown. her. Her hands hung weakly in the water.

She never had the courage to end her life, so it was good as well that Lewis could help her.

It would be fitting to meet her end. She would be relieved if she did. Nobody would be implicated by her anymore if she had expired, and she would no longer be in pain.

A person like her should have breathed her last a long time. ago.

Josephine closed her eyes, and her life flashed before her eyes. The feeling of suffocation came over her, and she began to lose consciousness.

At that moment, Lewis yanked her out again and gave her CPR. She then threw up a big mouthful of water.

Lewis let go of her.

Josephine coughed desperately as she slumped over the bathtub. Water was dripping from her head to toe. The water flowed along her sleeves and dripped on the floor.

Lewis wasn’t any better. The splashes from her struggles earlier had soaked parts of his clothes.

He took off his jacket and threw it on the floor.

He crouched in front of Josephine and lifted her chin. “Now tell me, did you do it by choice?”

Josephine smirked. She wanted to laugh but failed after trying a few times.

Why did he care so much if she did it by choice or not? So, what if it was by choice, and what if it wasn’t?

He should have figured out what would happen when he chose not to go looking for her. However, he still didn’t go to her, didn’t he? What was he doing at this moment, then?

Was he blaming her for not saving herself for him and not seeking his forgiveness by giving up her life? Was he blaming her for making him utterly humiliated in front of Seth?

At that moment, Josephine didn’t even have the strength to raise her hand. She felt so dizzy that the entire world was spinning around her.

Her body also felt extremely cold, but it was incomparable to how cold and empty she felt in her heart.

She stared at Lewis, and she nodded again.

Lewis looked at her intently. A storm was brewing in his eyes, and he would burst out in anger at any moment.

In the next second, he threw her into the water with all his might. “Get yourself cleaned!”

Upon saying that, he walked out without looking back at all.

Josephine lay in the icy water. It was the coldest part of winter, so the water was as cold as ice.

She turned to look at the bathroom door that was shut. The water dripping down her hair flowed down her neck into her collar. She felt the coldness piercing into her pores and bones.

Josephine’s eyes glinted before she closed them. Then, she slid into the water slowly, letting her hair and her clothes float in the water.

Actually, it was not hard if she wanted to end her life.

She closed her eyes tightly and let the water fill her nasal cavity. She slowly took in the intense. sensation of suffocation as water filled her lungs. She did her best to ignore her body’s protest and kept thinking about the good things in the past.

She thought of Lewis holding her hand as they went to class together, his doting smile, and the way he looked when he stroked her hair and asked her to eat more because he didn’t like

his wife to be too thin.

He was clearly cajoling her, but she foolishly took it seriously every time.

“You’re really such a fool,” she thought.

Josephine smiled bitterly.

This was probably it for her in this life.

It was all over.

She slowly sank to the bottom.

Lewis didn’t hear any movements in the bathroom after standing outside for a few minutes.

He frowned, then he suddenly kicked the door down.
