Chapter 78 You Deserve to Be Broke

Sam raised an eyebrow. He had an idea, so he didn’t correct Patrick. He reached his hand out

and shook Patrick’s hand.

“Hello, can we go in and talk?”

“Sure, of course, welcome.” Patrick initially wanted to head out, but when he saw them, he changed his mind.

Josephine didn’t know what Sam was trying to do, but she felt he was trustworthy and followed along.

Patrick enthusiastically invited them in, serving them water and fruit.

When Sam entered, he scanned the surroundings. The sofa was a little messy, with a rag-like blanket on it. It felt out of place in such a luxurious home. He picked up the blanket and did not need to smell hard to sense an old-person smell coming from the blanket.

“Oh, Mr. Alvarez, that’s dirty. Let me take it somewhere else.” Patrick took the blanket and ran to the toilet, dumping it into the laundry basket.

Sam took a tour around the house. He noticed a set of cutleries and a bowl on top of the wine cabinet next to the dining room.

Someone was cooking in the kitchen, but the door was closed, so he could not see who it was. When Patrick returned, Sam asked him, “Is your wife cooking in the kitchen?”

Patrick’s expression changed a little. His wife had returned to her parents’ home, so naturally, it was his mother cooking for him.

He chuckled drily and said, “It’s my mom. You know how old people are, they like to find things to do at home. They can’t sit still.”

Sam nodded and returned to the sofa. “Let’s get down to business.”

Patrick’s eyes brightened. He rubbed his palms together. “Has Mrs. Alvarez told you about it already?”

Sam nodded. “Hmm, she has told me everything, so you don’t have to put on an act anymore. Just get to the point.”

Patrick snickered. It seemed that his old mother still had some importance in the Alvarez family that even their heir came on his own. He had to milk their money’s worth. He suddenly felt as if five million dollars was too little.

“Sure, I won’t beat around the bush. Five million dollars. Give me five million dollars, and I’ll let you have my mom. If not, we don’t have a deal!”

Josephine was a little frantic. She wanted to say something but couldn’t. Patrick also did not.

understand sign language, so her anxiety was in vain.

Sam shot her a comforting glance.

“This is extortion. She is your mother, yet you are using her to extort money, not to mention. kidnapping. Aren’t you afraid we’ll take you to court and send you to prison?”

The smile on Patrick’s face vanished completely. He shouted curtly, “Fuck you! She is my mother! I’ll do whatever I want to her! Do you think I’ll be afraid of your threats? Do you have any evidence? You can take me to court! I didn’t kidnap her!”

Sam said, “But you blackmailed us. That’s evidence, isn’t it?”

Patrick was a little stunned. He said rather impatiently, “What on earth are you here for? If you’re not serious about this, you can leave! The Alvarez family is so rich, yet you are still so stingy with me for just five million dollars! How embarrassing!”

“If we go, will you torture your mother?”

Patrick chortled, furious. “That’s none of your business! If you don’t want to give me the money, stop pretending to be kind.”

At that, Mrs. Jinkins suddenly appeared with a pan from the kitchen and brutally hit Patrick on

the head.

“You monster! How dare you use me to ask for five million dollars! You can just kill me instead!”

Patrick clutched his head, turned around, and glared at Mrs. Jinkins, about to slap her. “You old hag! Are you seeking death!”

Mrs. Jinkins was not afraid of him at all. She cocked her head at him. “Hit me! I dare you to hit me! Show them how you treat your mother! You heartless monster! How dare you ask them. for money! You deserve to be broke your entire life!”

Patrick’s chest heaved violently in anger. He would have hit her if he wasn’t worried about. Mrs. Jinkins’ frail body. He only wanted money. He didn’t want to be a murderer.

“I carried you for ten months only to give birth to a monster! I deserved it!” Mrs. Jinkins said, tears falling down her face.

She continued. “Look at the house you’re staying in, the clothes you’re wearing, and the car you’re driving. Every single item was bought with the money you sucked dry from me! But you still don’t know how to be grateful, asking for five million dollars! You’ll get what’s coming. for you soon!”

For the past few days, Patrick made her sleep on the sofa with some dirty rags as a blanket. Even during mealtimes, she was not allowed to sit with them. She had to wait for them to finish eating before she could eat.

What disappointed Mrs. Jinkins the most was even her grandson treated her that way, not

batting an eyelid at his father’s atrocious actions.

What sort of ungrateful people did she bring up?

“Shut up!” Patrick yelled at her, stopping her tirade. “Go back to the kitchen and cook! What are you rambling about here?”

Something came across Mrs. Jinkins, and she looked at Patrick before looking at Josephine. A thought flashed through her mind. She said, “Patrick, if I die, you won’t be able to get any

money anymore.”

Patrick was instantly taken aback. Josephine stood up too.

“What nonsense are you talking about?”

“Anyway, I’ve had a long life. It’s time, anyway. If you dare ask Josie for money, I’ll kill myself

in

your house! I’ll haunt your family and curse your son that he marries a terrible wife! You

don’t deserve anything! You’ll be a murderer! I’ll make sure you end up in prison!”

Patrick was so furious he wanted to hit her, but he didn’t dare to do so.

At that moment, Sam stood up.

“Mr. Leigh, there is something I must tell you.” NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.

Patrick turned to look at him curiously.

“I’m not Mr. Alvarez. My name is Sam Wade, your mother’s lawyer. I’ve recorded everything that you’ve said. This will serve as evidence of your felony conviction for torturing the elderly in court,” Sam said while taking the recorder out of his pocket.

When Patrick saw the recorder, the color drained from his face instantly. He came to his senses and glared at Josephine. “You dumb bitch! How dare you set me up!”

Josephine pursed her lips and returned his glare, not backing down. After all, the truth has been uncovered. It would be even more troublesome if they did not solve the issue now.

Fear will not solve any problems.

“What do you want?”

Sam said, “You have two options. Let us take your mother with us, and you sign an agreement that you will never look for her ever again. The second option is we’ll take this to court. We’ve already interviewed your neighbors. With their testimonies and the recording, it will be more than enough to land you in prison for three years or more. You won’t win this if we take it to

court.”

Patrick didn’t understand the law, so naturally, he was bewildered by Sam’s words. He was struck dumb for a long time, unable to find his words. He was so close to getting the money! He was reluctant to give it up!

“If I sign the agreement, you won’t take me to court?”

Sam said, “As long as you cut ties with Mrs. Jinkins and don’t go looking for her. Of course, we won’t take you to court, but I will always keep the evidence. If you ever go back on your word, you’ll be prepared to hear from us.”

Patrick snorted furiously and glared at Josephine. “Who knew that you’d be capable of doing

this.”

Finally, Patrick caved in. He said through gritted teeth, “Sure. Since all of you want this old hag so much, take her away!”

Hearing what he said, Mrs. Jinkins was trembling with fury and disappointment.

Josephine immediately ran over and held Mrs. Jinkins’ arm. She felt as if she had finally found a family member that she once lost.

However, her delight only lasted a few seconds.

Her phone vibrated, and she took it out to have a look. It was a message from Lewis. “Where are you?”
