Chapter 41 Love Is Truly a Mysterious Thing
At Magic Cube, Tyler was seated opposite Lewis. It was only the two of them today, but there was plenty of liquor on the table, and the large screen was playing a music video, albeit without sound. In contrast to the loud noises outside, the private room was incredibly solemn.
Tyler poured himself a shot, drinking it in one go, then followed it with a second. He drank a total of three shots.
With his legs crossed, Lewis leaned lazily on the sofa, playing with his lighter as he looked silently at Tyler. Perhaps it was because Tyler downed the three shots too quickly that he felt like coughing. He held it in with much difficulty, his face turning red. It was then only that Tyler looked at Lewis.
“Lewis, let’s talk.”
“About what?” Lewis replied casually.
“Avery.”
Lewis smiled ambiguously. “She’s your sister, I don’t think I’m the person you should be looking for.”
“No one else is here, so there is no need for all the secrecy. Avery has learned her lesson; she will definitely not butt into matters involving Josephine in the future. I’ll apologize for the things she’s done in the past on her behalf. I hope you won’t let the situation worsen.”
Lewis observed him quietly, that ambiguous smile still on his face. After a while, he answered, “Do you really think everything will come to an end if I stop?”
Tyler was taken aback. “What do you mean?”
“Tyler, you’ve been in the industry for many years now. Haven’t you heard that a falling wall will be pushed down by everyone?”
Hearing that, Tyler’s expression changed. Obviously, he knew. He knew that friends. didn’t exist in the business world. Sometimes, one would be stabbed in the back by the very person they would call their brother. The strong ones were afraid to be caught up with, and the weak ones would pray for their downfall. That was why when someone was already on the ground, they would think of ways to trample them further, making a mockery out of them. It was like that between humans.
Lewis tilted his head and lit a cigarette, the flame illuminating his icy gaze. His voice was impassive, “All I did was start the fire, and it burned on its own. You’ve come to
the wrong person, Tyler.”
Tyler was in deep thought, his expression somber.
When the music video playing on the screen came to an end, during the song change, the private room was plunged into momentary darkness. It was then that Tyler spoke, “It is exactly because you started the fire that they dared add fuel to it. I came to the right person. The leader of the arsonists.”
“Have you heard of the snowball effect? When the snowball gets bigger, it isn’t something the person who made the snowball can control any longer.”
It was obvious from his attitude that Lewis was not going to stop. He wasn’t someone who intervened in matters easily. But once he did, he would not go lightly on that person. Knowing him for so long, Tyler was sure about it.
“Lewis, we are both businessmen, and businessmen won’t say no to money. Why don’t you state your demands?” Tyler sighed. Since it was no use pulling strings with their personal relationship, he could only discuss business.
Little clouds of smoke were forming at the end of Lewis’ fingertips while he thought about it. After a moment, he answered, “Your family is quite familiar with business in Africa, right?”
“Yes, our business is mainly centered there.” As Tyler spoke, his brows furrowed, ” What are you planning?”
Lewis said flatly, “There are a few countries there restricting entry of our goods. Go handle it.”
Alvarez Corp owned a large international shipping company. While their logistics. chain spanned the whole world, there were still parts of the world they could not reach.
Since it was inconvenient for Lewis to handle the situation, it would be much easier if Tyler were the one to handle it. After all, the Green family’s business had a big influence in the area.
“That wouldn’t be a problem.” Tyler said as he nodded, “Is that all?”
Lewis smirked, “Get this done first before anything.”
As Tyler noticed his smirk, he felt nervous. It seemed like the problem wasn’t as simple as a restriction order. Something else must be going on.
“You didn’t ship anything illegal, did you?” Tyler asked carefully.
“You just have to settle this problem for me. What I am shipping is not your concern.”
Tyler paused for a moment before answering, “I understand.”
Lewis picked up the wine glass on the table and took a sip slowly.
Tyler suddenly remembered something. “Lewis, was it really because of Sierra this time?”
Clearly, he had seen Sierra’s status update, he just didn’t press on the like button. He was practically invisible on social media.
“You’re poking your nose in too deep. What you should be doing right now is taking care of your family.” Lewis avoided his question. But to Tyler, that was his way of confirming it.
He couldn’t help lamenting to himself, “Love is truly a mysterious thing.” Some didn’t have to be stellar to have someone love them with all their heart.
Lewis stroked the wine glass, his expression unreadable, and did not answer Tyler.
Josephine was taking a nap on the sofa. Her dreams were filled with images from the news and criticism from netizens. She
building from the stress of the verbal ab Ven dreamt of Avery jumping off a
online. The moment Avery jumped, Josephine’s heart dropped down with her and she woke up the next second.
Josephine stared at the ceiling, the television still playing. She heard the sounds of drizzling rain outside.
Elysium was a rainy city.
In her muddled state, she heard the door unlocking and sat up straight, her eyes on the door. Lewis appeared as the door opened. He patted off the raindrops on his shoulders before walking in, his footsteps coming to a stop when he noticed. Josephine on the sofa. He glanced at his watch; it was two in the morning.
“You’re still awake?”Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Lewis thought it was a redundant question since Josephine was always awake when he got home. However, today was different. When he took off his coat, Josephine didn’t come forward to help him. Although it was a small detail, it still affected his mood slightly.
He hung his coat up on his own and went over to sit beside Josephine. “Haven’t I said you don’t have to wait for me?”
As he touched her face, Josephine could feel the cold air outside on his fingers. Her eyes were fixed on him. He had gone back to his usual demeanor. It was as if
nothing happened. Of course, she was still a child in his eyes, and he wouldn’t stay angry with a child.
Josephine gestured, “Why?”
Lewis’ fingers froze on her face. He observed her for a while before giving her a faint smile. “Are you interrogating me?”
Josephine pursed her lips. It was a waste of time to even ask, she knew she wasn’t qualified. Just like how he burned the paintings that Avery had gifted her, he didn’t need a reason. The only reason was that Avery had hurt the woman he loved.
The living room plunged into silence again. With only the loud noise coming from the television, it magnified the mansion’s desolation.
“Go to sleep.” Lewis didn’t want to waste his breath and carried her upstairs.
In bed, his hands got busy as they danced all over her body. Josephine was indignant and turned her back to him, rebutting him with her actions. But it was of no use as he clasped her arm, turning her toward him.
As he clasped onto her injured spot, Josephine winced and instinctively gasped in pain.
