Chapter 293 You Lost Her
“Get out.”
Lewis’ tone was unfriendly, and he sounded somewhat weak.
Sensing this, Sierra nervously grabbed his arm. “Lewis, what’s wrong? Are you hurt?”
Lewis turned his gaze towards her, his eyes icy. Sierra felt her scalp tingle.
“I told you to get out of the car.”
Feeling slightly aggrieved, Sierra paused, and tears welled up in her eyes. “Why are you being so mean? I came all the way here to see you and almost lost my life, but you don’t even care. And now you’re treating me like this!”
Veins bulged on Lewis’ forehead.
He ignored Sierra and stepped on the accelerator, driving the car away.
Sitting next to him, Sierra wiped her tears. Whenever she thought about what had just happened, she felt increasingly wronged.
Lewis ignored her sobs as the car sped away.
The nighttime scenery whizzed past outside the window.
He arrived at the seaside, where there were not many people left. Only a few individuals were strolling around. Most stalls had turned off their lights, and the beach bore the aftermath of the bustling activities.
Lewis parked his car and strode toward where he had asked Josephine to wait.
The beach was in disarray, and a few cleaners were tidying up the aftermath. However, the specific spot where he had asked Josephine to wait was vacant, devoid of any presence.
“Lewis, what are you looking for?” Sierra followed behind him, struggling to keep up with his fast pace.
Lewis searched the entire beach and night market, but there was no sign of Josephine.
She was gone!
Lewis approached one of the cleaners and asked, “Have you seen a girl around here?”
He showed the cleaner a photo, and after examining the picture, the cleaner shook his head. “I haven’t seen her.”
Realization dawned on Sierra. So, he was looking for that mute. Did Lewis spend time with her at the night market before coming to rescue her?
Jealousy rose within Sierra, and she began biting her nails nervously.
She watched Lewis’ anxious state and secretly gritted her teeth, hoping the mute would never appear.
Perhaps the heavens heard her inner thoughts. Despite Lewis’ thorough search on the beach, there was no sign of Josephine.
He called out Josephine’s name, but no one answered.
He retrieved the receiver for her watch, but it seemed like there was no signal on her end. Her location was not on display.
Lewis put away the receiver and walked briskly back to the car while taking out his phone to call Gerald.
“What? Miss Vance is gone?” Gerald’s face turned pale upon hearing that. A whirlwind of questions swirled through his mind. Why did she suddenly disappear? Did the human traffickers take her away?
Feeling his heart sinking, Gerald immediately responded over the phone, “Don’t worry, Chairman Alvarez, I’ll send someone to find Miss Vance and make sure they find her.”
After hanging up, Lewis tossed his phone onto the dashboard and leaned back in his seat to massage his temples.
Sierra was secretly feeling pleased as she observed Lewis’ expression. Sierra thought to herself, “It seems that Josephine has truly gone missing. Excellent.”
Perhaps she had been killed or abducted and sold off.
Sierra thought she deserved it.
That mute kept clinging to Lewis even after their divorce, occupying what should have been. hers for far too long. She deserved to die.
Having learned about Josephine’s disappearance, Seth sternly confronted Lewis over the phone, “Don’t you know she’s ill? She can easily get lost at any moment. How could you dare leave her alone in such a place?”
“Lewis, what exactly are you thinking?”
Seth sounded solemn, unlike his usual happy tone. His voice was laced with a rare anger.
He was well aware of the chaotic nature of that place, and given Josephine’s condition, it was easy for her to get into trouble if she went missing.
This time, Lewis didn’t argue with him.
Seth hung up the phone furiously and quickly grabbed his coat before heading out.
Gerald mobilized all his connections, as did Lewis, in a relentless search for Josephine’s whereabouts throughout the night.
There were few surveillance cameras by the seaside, and there was a surveillance footage that captured Josephine’s figure as she walked onto the main road, wearing her white sweater.
There weren’t many cameras on the road, to begin with, so they had to pull up nearby surveillance footage and painstakingly piece together the sequence of events.
The search area expanded significantly as a result.
The only fortunate thing was that Josephine was alone in the surveillance footage where they spotted her.
She had only gotten lost and wasn’t abducted by anyone.
Sierra rolled her eyes, wondering why everyone was so anxious. How could a grown adult get lost? Even if she was lost, she could simply take a taxi back.
Nonchalantly, she commented, “Maybe she’ll come back on her own in a little while.”
Her words had barely left her lips when Seth coldly glanced at her.
Sierra’s smile froze when she saw his gaze. Then she retorted irritably, “What’s the matter? I’m not wrong!”
Seth chuckled, but there was a hidden threat in his laughter. “Miss Woods, you better pray
that she’s safe.”
“What does it have to do with me?”
Seth snorted coldly and continued to watch the surveillance footage.
Suddenly, Lewis stood up and turned to leave.
Sierra quickly followed him, and as she reached the doorway, Lewis stopped abruptly, nearly causing her to bump into him.
Lewis looked at her coldly. “Don’t follow me.”
Sierra opened her mouth and wanted to say something. However, after catching a glimpse of the coldness in his eyes, she swallowed back the words on the tip of her tongue. Muttering under her breath, she said, “Fine, I won’t follow. You don’t have to be so mean.”
She couldn’t quite understand what these two men were so worried about. Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Of course, Sierra couldn’t understand. Most people with Alzheimer’s disease who went missing were rarely found again.
It was as if they had evaporated from the face of the Earth, and no one knew how they disappeared.
It was like some sort of magic or curse.
Even those with extensive connections and resources couldn’t locate the missing person after using all means. Such cases had happened before.
Lewis drove along the coastal area and searched everywhere. Despite the crowded streets filled. with people, he couldn’t find the familiar figure.
Seth was also searching. He had spent the whole day reviewing the surveillance footage, but there were very few instances where Josephine’s figure was captured.
The crowded streets were one thing. It was too hard to discern the people.
Moreover, the search area would be expanded whenever the surveillance footage captured her trace. It was like finding a needle in a haystack.
They searched everywhere in Hardington for a whole day, but unfortunately, they still couldn’t find Josephine.
As the sky gradually darkened, an orange hue coated the horizon. Sunlight cascaded, reflecting off the shimmering sea.
Parking his car by the seaside, Lewis leaned against it and lit a cigarette.
The sunlight shone on his face, and his deep eyes revealed a hint of melancholy.
A car pulled up beside him.
Seth stepped out of the car and walked up to him before leaning against the car in the same. posture and absentmindedly lighting a cigarette.
Taking a drag from his cigarette, he lifted his gaze to the boundless horizon and said, “Lewis, you lost her.”
Lewis remained silent.
דיי
guess you don’t mind since you still have Sierra,” Seth said calmly, his tone dripping with
sarcasm.
