Chapter 263 Josephine’s Getting Married

Robert didn’t plan on explaining to her any further. Instead, he asked her right away, “Are you willing to move back to Alvarez Manor?”

Josephine just stared at Robert unblinkingly. The latter wasn’t joking at all; he had asked her if she was willing to move back to Alvarez Manor with a serious expression on his face.

She didn’t know how to answer him.

Lewis’ expressionless face flashed across her mind at that moment. Then, she remembered. the cold and unfamiliar mansion, causing her to ball up her fists again.

Robert added, “The Alvarez family has provided you with the necessities for so long. I’m not asking you to contribute anything to our family, but now, you have a chance to repay us for all these years.”

Josephine held her breath while waiting for the older man’s explanation.

“I scouted a new husband for you. Why don’t you meet up with him later?”

The woman felt all color draining from her face at that moment. She finally realized the reason why Robert had summoned her to his study. He distracted her with so many topics. before telling her she would be wed to another man.

She opened her mouth, wishing to reject him, but she decided not to respond when she noticed the smile curled on Robert’s lips.

That man might be smiling, but there was still a trace of sternness that would never tolerate. defiance lingering in his eyes. It was his way of telling Josephine that he wasn’t discussing the matter with her. It was just him being courteous enough to inform her of what was about to happen.

Josephine lowered her head while clutching the ends of her sleeves.

Robert continued, “Now that you and Lewis are divorced, everyone will start gossiping if you continue living with him. You need to sever the past marriage from your life cleanly instead of continuing to get involved in your ex-husband’s life. Both of you won’t get any benefits out of doing this. Lewis needs to find a wife who matches his social standing and background, whereas you need to find a good man who deserves you so that you can contribute to the Alvarez family. What do you say, hmm?”

It was just as expected of Robert to say such things. Josephine didn’t think he would be able to maximize the benefits and profits from a mere marriage. Both she and Lewis were to be married off through arranged marriages for Robert’s plan to work. It was a lot more lucrative than allowing her and Lewis to remain together.

Josephine raised her head before gesturing, “Both of us are divorcees.”

“That’s not important. It’s common for people to go through divorces nowadays before. diving into the dating pool again. You must understand that going through an arranged marriage differs from falling in love No one cares if you got married once or twice in the past. What everyone pays attention to is the partner you’re set to marry.”

Josephine didn’t know what else to gesture after hearing Robert’s words. She continued to bow her head quietly without replying to the man.

Of course, Robert decided to make the decision for Josephine. “Alright, it’s decided. From today onward, you’ll be staying in Alvarez Manor There’s no need for you to return to Styx

Mansion now

He waved his hand atrily after he was done announcing his big decision. It was also a cue for Josephine to leave

The young woman lifted her head to look at Robert, hoping to persuade him to reconsider his decision However, the latter decided to pay attention to the parrot once more without looking

at her

Seeing that she could do nothing at this point, she rose to her feet and left the study.

After that, Josephine headed downstairs and tried to leave the mansion, only to be blocked by the bodyguards at the main entrance.

“Miss Vance, Master Robert has explicitly instructed that you are not allowed to leave the

mansion’s premises.”

It seemed that the entire staff had already been informed of the latest directive, which stated that Josephine was to stay in the mansion at all times. In a way, she was being imprisoned until the day she got married to another man.

Meanwhile, Lewis received a call from Mrs. Larson the moment he was done with his meeting.

The latter informed him that Josephine had been taken back to Alvarez Manor, courtesy of

Robert.

He halted in his tracks. “When did she leave?”

“She has been gone all morning. I wasn’t able to reach you since your phone was switched off.”

Lewis was silent for a moment. There wasn’t even a trace of emotion on his face. His impassive

voice rang soon enough. “Got it.”

After that, he ended the call.

Kiran walked out of the meeting room at that moment before slowing to a stop next to Lewis. He only opened his mouth to say something once he observed the latter for a few seconds.

“There shouldn’t be anything going on for the rest of the day, Chairman Alvarez. Do you have anything on your schedule?”

Lewis tilted his head to shoot Kiran a glance. His expression was difficult to gauge. “It seems that your schedule is packed.”

Kiran raised a hand to push the gold-rimmed glasses against his nose bridge before replying impassively, “Not really.”

“Is that so? Your plans tend to take people by surprise.”

Kiran paused for a moment, a look of confusion appearing on his face. “What are you talking about, Chairman Alvarez? I don’t think I can catch your drift.”

Lewis’ gaze fleeted across Kiran’s face before he curled his lips into a smile and chuckled lightly.

After that, he turned on his heel and left without saying anything.

Kiran watched Lewis’ silhouette, a frown finally gracing his features.

The latter instantly departed for the parking lot instead of lingering in the company. Then, he drove toward Moss Corporation right away.

“Chairman Alvarez, Master Robert called your phone twice in a row just now. He wants you to go home.”

“Keep driving.”

Conrad cowered slightly as he continued driving, already deciding to keep his mouth shut. At the same time, he was starting to doubt the possibility of Lewis signing that contract successfully.

Back in Alvarez Manor, Robert couldn’t help but get mad when he realized that Lewis decided to ignore his words.

He responded by summoning the man who was meant to be Josephine’s matchmaking partner to Alvarez Manor before dialing Lewis’ number once again.

This time, the latter answered it right away.

“Lewis, are you done with your meeting?”

“Yes. What is it?”

Robert explained, “It’s not anything major. I discussed this matter with Josephine this morning. Even though you two are already divorced, she’s still your younger sister by name. Shouldn’t you be around to witness it if she’s going to get married again?”

The threatening tone was undeniable. Either Lewis went home without signing the contract with the Moss family, or he had to watch Josephine marry another man.

Lewis let out a soft chuckle from the other end of the line. “Since you’re so anxious, what’s the purpose of me going home then? Am I about to attend their wedding ceremony? Or am I

supposed to be the one conducting the ceremony?”

Robert could feel anger starting to rise upon hearing Lewis’ sarcastic response, but he suppressed it very well. “Don’t you want to meet him?”

“As what? As her ex-husband or her older brother?”

“I don’t care what identity you’ll be taking on. Are you coming back or not?”

Lewis replied lightly, “I’m busy right now. Feel free to make your own arrangements if you intend on marrying her to another man today. The wedding will still go on no matter which option I choose, yes?” Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

Robert didn’t know what to say. What else could he say anyway? Was he planning on telling Lewis that he wouldn’t marry Josephine off if that man were to return to Alvarez Manor right

now?

It wasn’t as though the older man planned on marrying her off for real. He just wanted to use her as an excuse to threaten Lewis so that he wouldn’t sign the contract.

Lewis was right. Even if he came home and stopped Josephine from getting married to the unknown man, Robert would still end up marrying her to another man when Lewis intended to sign the contract again.

There was always a possibility that Josephine would get married again unless Lewis gave up on the idea of taking over Moss Corporation.

In other words, Robert wanted him to give up on signing the contract with the Moss family. That man was only allowed to choose between Josephine and Moss Corporation. It was just that simple.

“Fine. Carry on with your business then.”

Now that Robert knew of Lewis’ outlook on the matter, he did not need to keep the conversation going.

He refused to believe that his son was capable of treating Josephine as though she was a

stranger.

Robert threw away his phone before raising his head to glance at Josephine. He smiled at her, yet there was a hint of anger in it. “You heard everything, right?”

The woman just pursed her lips. She didn’t hear the conversation but could guess the contents based on Robert’s answers.

Lewis knew that Robert planned to marry her off, and yet he didn’t care about it.

She should have expected this outcome. That cold-looking man was nothing like the Lewis she knew and loved, so she shouldn’t be surprised by whatever decision the former ended up making.

Josephine never hoped for him to give up everything for her like how the Lewis she knew in the past would.

He was no longer that Lewis, after all.

Robert pinched the spot between his brows in a state of agitation. At that moment, the butler walked into the room and reported to him that Josephine’s matchmaking partner had arrived

at the mansion.
