Chapter 250 Waiting for Lewis’ Classes to Be Over
Josephine pretended not to hear Lewis’ command. She put on a fluffy beanie before walking out of the mansion with her head bowed.
It was then Lewis’ mask of nonchalance finally spurted a fine crack. Derek, who was still around, witnessed that tiny change.
However, he didn’t plan on leaving Styx Mansion anytime soon. He wanted to know what exactly happened between Lewis and Josephine.
Meanwhile, Lewis was still smiling as he reached out to tug at his tie with his long and slender fingers. If one were to study his smile, one would realize that it was actually filled with anger.
Derek raised his brow in the slightest arch he could possibly muster. He remarked, “Looks like you got more important matters to deal with. I’ll be taking my leave now.”
Lewis fixated his gaze on the face belonging to the man in front of him once again. “What’s with the rush? I’ve scheduled a meeting with someone. Why don’t you come along?”
Derek’s gaze landed on the other man’s face for a few seconds longer. He remained silent for a moment, choosing not to refute Lewis at all.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Larson hurried out of the mansion as soon as Josephine left. This time, she would make sure that Josephine didn’t get lost out there.
The latter continued walking down the path for a very long time. When she had no energy left, she plopped onto the side of the road and rested there.
Josephine raised a hand to stare at her own fingers as confusion streaked across her
eyes.
Why was her body this weak now?
She only walked for a while before feeling herself gradually going out of breath. Her heart felt like it was about to explode from the exhaustion.
Mrs. Larson reached the woman’s proximity with the intention of convincing her to go home, but she decided to keep her mouth shut upon noticing the stubborn look on the latter’s face. All she could do was follow Josephine quietly.
Then, Josephine pulled out her phone and booked an e-hailing cab.
She set Alvarez Manor as her destination.
Mrs. Larson followed her into the car once it arrived.
Josephine turned around to look at the housekeeper, but she didn’t say anything. They sat in the backseat wordlessly until the cab reached Alvarez Manor.
After Josephine got out of the cab, she stared at the iron gates before her. Then, she took a
deep breath before heading toward the mansion.
The security guards at the entrance recognized her, so they didn’t stop her. Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
Once Josephine entered the mansion, she looked around the huge hall. There were many familiar faces in the mansion, but at the same time, many unfamiliar people were present as
well.
The moment she arrived at the living room, the butler approached her immediately. “Madam?
”
He had already heard about the news of Lewis and Josephine’s divorce. However, since Lewis never officially announced their divorce, he, alongside the rest of the household staff, still thought of Josephine as the young madam of the Alvarez family.
When Josephine heard the honorific, she looked around before fixing her gaze on the elderly butler. Then, she pointed at herself.
Was he calling out to her?
The butler simpered, asking, “Madam, are you here to visit Mrs. Alvarez? She caught a cold a few days ago, so she’s resting in her bedroom right now. Do you need me to lead you to her room?”
Josephine had yet to recover from the shock of hearing the butler referring to her as “madam. “Hence, she could only nod absentmindedly.
The butler gestured for her politely to follow him. Then, he took the lead and started walking toward Nancy’s room.
The moment they reached Nancy’s door, the butler knocked on it before stating, “Mrs. Alvarez, Madam is here to visit you.”
Nancy happened to be suffering from a bad headache. When she heard the word “madam,” her headache got even worse. She was already sick over the past few days, yet Josephine was the one who returned to the mansion instead of Lewis.
Nowadays, Nancy would become furious whenever she heard Josephine’s name being uttered. She wanted nothing more than to kill that mute, but she was forced to give up on that idea when she recalled the warnings and threats Lewis had issued to her that day.
Unfortunately, Nancy could no longer intimidate Lewis by using her identity as his mother. If she couldn’t come up with a perfect plan, she would no longer be able to lay a finger on Josephine.
The older woman snarled in frustration, “I don’t want to see her! Tell her to leave!”
“Um-“The butler shot a hesitant look at Josephine, knowing that she most likely heard Nancy’s response.
The latter didn’t insist on visiting Nancy. She was already used to the latter being mean to her
all the time.
Besides, she was here to look for Lewis.
Later on, Josephine followed the butler down the stairs. She raised her head to look at him properly, feeling as though he had aged a lot overnight. Even his eyes seemed to look more tired and jaded than before.
The woman couldn’t understand why everyone around her had changed so much overnight.
It was as though she had slept for many years.
Josephine then remembered the other Lewis, who was cold and distant toward her. She still found it hard to accept that he was the Lewis she knew.
Hence, she gestured to the butler, “Where is Lewis?”
The latter paused for a moment before smiling at her. “Madam, if you don’t know where Master Lewis is, the rest of us certainly won’t know his whereabouts either.”
Josephine stared at the butler, noting the sincere look on his face. So, she gestured once again, “Why did you call me ‘madam”?”
The butler looked even more surprised. “Then what should I call you?”
He thought Josephine didn’t want him to call her “madam” because she and Lewis were no longer married.
Josephine was silent for a moment before her hands started moving. “Just the usual, please.”
“Understood, Miss Vance.”
Josephine pursed her lips, no longer wishing to continue the topic. Then, she turned on her heel and left Alvarez Manor.
After that, she booked another cab just to travel to Lewis’ university. A dazed look appeared on her face as she stood at the entrance while watching throngs of university students entering and exiting the grounds.
“Madam, who are you waiting for?” Mrs. Larson attempted to probe for an answer.
Josephine automatically tuned out the word “madam” as she raised her head to look at Mrs. Larson. A light breeze tickled the soft fluff that was stitched on the hems of her beanie. The tip of her nose and her cheeks had already reddened from the cold air outside. Whenever she breathed, white puffs of mist would travel out of her mouth before dissipating in the wind.
She withdrew her hands from her pockets before gesturing slowly in response. “I’m waiting
for Lewis’ classes to end.”
Mrs. Larson stared at the woman’s moving fingers for a while, clearly stunned. She wondered if she misread the gestures. Perhaps she wasn’t that fluent in sign language at all, for she
couldn’t really understand what Josephine meant.
Some time later, Mrs. Larson decided to probe Josephine for more answers. “Are you saying you’re waiting for Master Lewis to be done with his classes for the day?”
Josephine nodded while gesturing, “He’s at class right now. Soon, he’ll leave the campus.”
Mrs. Larson could feel her poker face starting to shatter. However, she felt that Josephine wasn’t playing a trick on her after noticing the sincere look on the latter’s face.
“Isn’t Master Lewis at home?”
Josephine shook her head. She provided an explanation via sign language afterward. “That man isn’t Lewis. Lewis isn’t like that. You’ll know once the real Lewis leaves the campus.”
She looked very serious, not to mention she was stubborn as well. Her eyes sparkled when she thought about the “real” Lewis.
The young woman gazed toward the school entrance, hope and eagerness written all over her face. Even though she was trembling from the cold weather, a radiant smile still curled on her lips.
Mrs. Larson had a feeling that Josephine might be able to meet the person she had been waiting for all this time.
The housekeeper heaved a heavy sigh. There was nothing else she could say, so she could only stand there and keep Josephine company.
Josephine started gesturing to Mrs. Larson again. “I used to wait for him on this spot every day. Once he leaves the campus, he’ll be able to see me right away.”
She stared at Mrs. Larson seriously as though she wanted her to acknowledge her reason.
The latter could only chuckle dryly without providing Josephine with an actual reply.
That disappointed Josephine greatly. She pointedly stuck her hands into her pockets while staring at the school entrance, not wanting to miss out on Lewis’ eventual appearance.
However, there were crowds constantly rushing in and out of the gates. Various students kept traveling around the area. Sadly enough, Josephine was unable to locate the person she was most familiar with.
The sky started darkening slowly, and the temperature became even lower as time passed. On a sunny day, the temperature was around 53.6°F, but it was only 37.4°F right now.
Josephine was unable to withstand the freezing weather despite the fact that she was wearing a down jacket.
She shrank into her jacket while stomping on the ground a few times to dispel the numbness In her feet.
“Madam, let’s go home. Maybe he’s not leaving the campus today.”
Josephine shook her head, not wanting to leave the area.
She didn’t want to go home and face that man again.
Only a few people were leaving the campus by now.
More time passed after that, but no one had walked through those gates by then.
The eager expression on Josephine’s face started chipping away. The glimmer in her eyes soon
died down.
At that moment, a Bentley slowed down to a stop next to her.
