Chapter 247 Don’t You Remember Me?
Nancy’s face paled instantly. It was obvious how anxious she became the moment she saw the look on Lewis’ face. Her mouth was agape, but she didn’t know what to say.
Holding an umbrella in her hand, Nancy walked to Lewis’ side and spoke guiltily, “Lewis…
Now that she was caught in the act, she couldn’t find a way to explain herself.
Seeing how horrible Josephine’s condition was, she only realized that not only were they husband and wife, the two had grown up closely together. Treating Josphine like this was practically the same as not respecting Lewis.
Lewis turned his head, and his eyes landed on Nancy’s face. His eyes were void of emotions as he asked, “So this is what you call ‘in one piece’?”
Nancy tried to explain, “I just asked these people to lock her up. I didn’t know they would treat Josephine like this.”
She shifted all the blame onto the maids. “Workers these days are so disobedient. I will definitely punish them well…”
Lewis couldn’t be bothered to hear any of her nonsense. He dashed over to Josephine’s front. With a kick aimed at the bodyguard holding her, he grabbed Josephine and carried her in his
arms.
The bodyguard, who Lewis kicked, fell right into the basement at the side with a thud.
Even the maid’s face had gone pale as she looked pleadingly at Nancy.
Upset, Nancy said, “I asked you to look after her well. Did you do that? Grab her and throw her
in there too!”
Under Nancy’s instructions, two people came over right away and kicked the maid down the
basement.
“Mrs. Alvarez, I was only following…”
“Shut up! Stop blabbering nonsense. Lock her up!” Nancy cut her off loudly. She snuck a glance at Lewis. But he was already leaving with Josephine in his arms without turning back.
Nancy couldn’t care less about the maids anymore. She chased after Lewis. “Lewis, bring her
upstairs. I’ll ask someone to get a doctor for her.”
Lewis stopped in his track as he turned his head to look at Nancy.
The rain was so heavy that he and Josephine were completely drenched while Nancy still had an umbrella with her. But the look Lewis shot at her gave her more chills than not having an umbrella.
Lewis spoke, “I hope this will be the last time.”
It was more than a mere warning; his words were laden with menacing and murderous intent. Nancy contemplated that if anyone else had been the recipient of those words, they would have met a grim fate, reduced to corpses.
Stunned, Nancy looked at Lewis. “What do you mean by that?”
“I said this will be the last time.”
Drop by drop, rainwater trickled down his jawline. His hair became damp and disheveled. However, his eyes conveyed a distinct aura of menace and frigidity, unmistakable signs of his
murderous intent.
Before departing, he left his mother with a single sentence, leaving her to ponder its weight. Then, without looking back, he disappeared into the relentless downpour, his silhouette gradually fading into the distance.
Staring at him, Nancy had a strange feeling. She felt as if she had lost her son forever.
Her grip on the umbrella loosened as it fell onto the ground and was blown far away by the
wind.
At the entrance, Selena was still standing under the roof. She was taken aback when she saw Lewis arriving with a woman in his arms.
Without allowing her the chance to speak, Lewis disregarded her completely and swiftly
entered his car.
Selena stood frozen at the entrance, balling up her fists on either side of her body.
Lewis did meet her already, but she didn’t expect him to turn and head back to the backyard. Now, he even emerged with a woman in his arms.
What was he trying to imply? Was this an act to embarrass her?
She had never been embarrassed like this before.
The more Selena thought about it, the angrier she became. But when she turned her head, she saw Nancy walking over in low spirits. She wasn’t even holding an umbrella, so she was soaked from head to toe.
Her perfect bun was now disheveled, and even her expensive clothes looked ugly at that moment. It was completely different from how elegant and classy she usually was.
“Auntie Nancy, you…”
Selena’s mind was flooded with questions, trying to make sense of what could have transpired between them in a mere ten-minute span.
Nancy stood in front of Selena and took a good look at her before releasing a sigh.
“You should head back, Selena.”
“What’s wrong?”
Nancy didn’t have the energy to speak more. She limped her way into the house, but after a few steps, she fainted and collapsed to the ground.
“Auntie Nancy!”
Following Selena’s cry, Lewis drove his car out of the Alvarez Manor. He sped through the night and brought Josephine back to Styx Mansion.
Dr. Halliday was pacing in the living room. He finally sighed in relief when he saw Lewis bring Josephine back home.
“Mr. Alvarez!”
“Check on her.” After saying that, Lewis carried Josephine upstairs. He helped her to change before placing her on the bed.
Dr. Halliday came up with his medical box and started examining Josephine immediately.
“Oh, it’s nothing serious. She’s probably too hungry and cold, so she’s having a fever.”
He could only think that it was good enough to see Josephine alive with that frail body of hers. Compared to those complicated diseases of hers, wouldn’t the flu and fever seem like a small matter?
While Dr. Halliday spoke, he retrieved an infusion bottle from his medical kit. Given
Josephine’s hunger strikes and recurring bouts of flu, he always made sure to carry glucose and fever medication in his kit for such situations.
He set up an IV drip for Josephine and placed a cooling patch on her forehead to treat the fever. Only then did he wipe his sweat off and say, “All done.”
Staring at the woman who had passed out on the bed, Lewis was silent for a long while.
He was all wet too. Even his clothes and hair were still dripping with water. But he looked scarily calm and composed. He shouldn’t be reacting this way right now at all.
Dr. Halliday peeked at Lewis’ face. When he saw that there were no further instructions from Lewis, he grabbed his medical box and left.
He couldn’t see through Lewis or tell what that man was thinking about. His actions and reactions in different situations had never failed to surprise Dr. Halliday. Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
Josephine was in a long coma this time. She only woke up after three whole days.
She opened her eyes, but the world was spinning. She wanted to get up but gave up after some
tries.
She closed her eyelids to rest a bit. After a while, she forced down the dizziness in her head and got up. She became anxious when she saw the unfamiliar surroundings.
Josephine staggered out of the bedroom and stood rooted to the ground when she arrived in the hallway.
She didn’t recognize this place.
With her hands pressed against the wall to steady herself, Josephine made her way slowly towards the stairs. Overwhelmed by fear, she yearned to escape from this place with a sense of desperation.
But she bumped into Lewis, who was heading up, the moment she reached the stairs.
She was too stunned to move. As she sized him up, she saw that this man was wearing a black shirt. There was nothing but indifference in his eyes, and he had his hands shoved in his pockets. He, too, was looking up at her.
Confusion flashed through Josephine’s eyes. She instinctively took a step back when she saw this unfamiliar man.
She fell and sat on the ground weakly without supporting herself on the wall.
Seeing that, Lewis dashed upstairs. He wanted to help her, but she moved further from him.
Lewis’ fingers froze in the air as he stared at her.
Josephine pursed her lips and continued to size Lewis up. Compared to the Lewis in her memory, the man standing here looked much more mature. He didn’t have a smile on his face, nor was he wearing
a white shirt.
They were like two completely different people. She thought that the man in front of her wasn’t Lewis. He was just someone who looked like Lewis.
After being taken aback for a while, Lewis asked with a complex expression, “Don’t you remember who I am?”
