I never meant to hurt you
At the states, Sasha sat opposite her mother and grandfather, biting her fingernails. She couldn’t dare look her grandfather in the eyes.
“Please forgive me. I never meant for all this to happen. Mum!”
When her mother overheard her phone conversation with Diana, she forced her to confess to her involvement in Melissa’s kidnapping.
“I can’t believe you are capable of this Sasha. Do you see how your obsession with Mark has hurt people?” Her mother asked with tears in her eyes.
“I’m sorry!” She sniffed trying to hold her mother’s hand.
“This is my fault. I pushed my daughter and granddaughter too hard. I turned them into heartless monsters. Being a Johnson was my dream and now my children suffer because of my greed.” Sasha’s grandfather said ashamed of what he had made them do.
“No father, you only did it thinking of their well being. Don’t blame yourself father, they chose to force what was not working.” His eldest daughter tried to console him.
“But I put the idea in them. How I wish I could turn back time.” The old man held his chest as tears filled his eyes.
“Over thirty years ago, my company was in ruin.” The old man looked at his eldest daughter. “Having my daughter marry Richard was the only way to keep us afloat.” He closed his eyes and recalled asking Sasha’s mother to get married for the money. “You said no despite knowing he liked you.”
“I’m sorry I disappointed you dad.” Sasha’s mother clenched her father’s hand.
“No honey, you’ve made me proud and I was too stubborn to see it. When Cassandra agreed to the arranged marriage, I treated her like a princess and overlooked all she did to keep Richard from the young girl he loved. I turned my daughter into what she has become. And I let the same thing happen to my granddaughter.”
“No grandpa, we chose this. I chose this. I’m sorry for not listening to you mother. Please forgive me.” Sasha knelt before her mother and grandfather.
“It’s okay honey. It’s going to be okay.”
“Ahem! Sir, Ma’am, the police are here.” The maid stood at the doorway with two men in police uniform behind him.
“Okay,” When the old man nodded she directed them into the living room.
“The police? Mother, grandfather you promised there wouldn’t be any police. I can’t go to jail, mother. Please don’t let them take me,” Sasha cried kneeling before her mother begging for her help.
“I’m sorry honey, it’s out of my hands.” She took a step back as the police lifted Sasha and cuffed her hands behind her back.
“Miss Sasha, you have to come with us. You are under arrest for kidnapping Mrs. Melissa Johnson…”
“No, I didn’t kidnap her. It was Diana. She forced me. Mother, grandfather, please tell them. It was not me. I don’t want to go to jail.” She kept pleading.
“Miss, anything you say can and will be used against you in court. Let’s go.” The two officers read her rights, forcing her out of the house.
“That’s not necessary, uncuff her.” Walking into the room supporting himself on a walking stick, Mark stood tall as Sasha’s knight and shining armour.
“Mark, you came?” With the cuffs off her hands, Sasha ran towards Mark. “I’m so sorry for what I did, please forgive me, Mark. It’s Diana who forced me to do all that.” Sasha knelt before him begging for his forgiveness.Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
“We are not pressing any charges against you because the information you gave us helped end a drug and human trafficking cartel but I don’t think I can ever forgive you. My whole family trusted you, Sasha. We gave you a second chance but what did you do?”
“I’m sorry, I swear I never meant to hurt you or your family. Please give me one last chance.” She sobbed while holding his leg.
“Enough Sasha, no amount of tears will work this time.” He held her by the elbow and lifted her up.
“No, no Mark, I love you so much. Being your wife is all I’ve ever wanted. That’s why I did everything. All of it to fight for the great love I feel for you. Please Mark..” She held his suit jacket as more tears flowed down her cheeks.
“Get your hands off me Sasha. The sight of you makes me nauseated.” She stumbled and fell on her back when he pushed her off. I never want to see you near my family ever.”
“Mark, Mark I…”
“That’s enough Sasha, don’t you have shame? After what you did to his family you still think he will reciprocate your feelings.” Her mother reprimanded, dragging her up and out of the room.
“Mother you don’t understand, I need him to forgive me. I need Mark, or I can’t live anymore.” Her mother pushed her out of the living room to the garden as she rumbled on trying to go back. “Let’s talk to grandfather Johnson, he will talk some sense into Mark. He will make him take me back. Ah!”
“That’s enough Sasha.” Her mother slapped her on the face stopping her bubbling. “Stay away from that family. Can’t you see the pain you have caused them? Because of you Mark almost died, and his wife is in the hospital fighting for her life. How do you expect them to ever trust you? How do you expect them to welcome you into their lives again?”
“Mother I’m sorry.” She sniffed and wiped her tears as she curled up on a chair. “I wanted Mark so much I agreed to work with Diana. She was supposed to get Melissa out of his life and he would marry me.” Her knees drawn to her chest, she sobbed. “Diana used me.”
“You have to forget Mark. Above all, you have to stay away from the Johnsons.” Her mother walked out and locked the door. “Don’t let her out of your sight.” She instructed a maid to watch Sasha.
With a heavy sigh she went back to join her father and Mark in the living room “I’m so sorry for everything, Mark.” Sasha’s mother apologized taking a seat beside her father.
“As I was saying to you sir, as Johnson’s company director, I’ve decided to personally inform you that we are canceling all the newly signed contracts with your company. And once the old ones expire, we won’t renew. I’m sorry sir, ma’am, I hope you understand. I’m only doing this to protect my family.”
“I understand your position, my child but please reconsider.” The old man almost went down on his knees but Mark stopped him. “You are our major client. Without you the company will collapse. Please reconsider, I’ll keep my daughter and granddaughter away from your family. Don’t end our partnership.” The old man coughed holding his chest.
“I’m sorry sir.” Sighing Mark looked at the old man feeling sorry for all he was going through. “I’ll put in a good word for you with other companies and get you more contracts. That’s all I can do. Have a good day.” The old man nodded as Mark got up from his chair.
