Under My Boss’ Table

Chapter 36 Don’t ask why…

I couldn’t sleep all night. What happened moved me. Edward filed for divorce! I didn’t care what Sofia was going to think, the very fact that Edward announced his desire for a divorce in front of me! Were his feelings about me so serious that he was willing to leave his wife? Also pregnant? By the way, what if she was pregnant with him?

A lot of mixed feelings raged inside me. I felt sympathy and joy for Sophia. And Edward scared me with his new behavior, I was afraid to trust him again. I fell to the bottom because of him, I erected a wall around myself, I tried to flood my feelings, and was it worth opening the arms of my soul for Edward?

To distract myself in some way, I turned on a light comedy series and tried to immerse myself in it. It didn’t work out very well, but I got a bit distracted.

The morning had come. I never went to bed, so I went to work a little nervous.

Edward was already in his place. When he saw me, he waved a finger at me. With a sigh, I walked over to him and closed the door.

“Hi there. How are you?” He looked me in the face with suspicion. I was pretty sure the shadows under my eyes hadn’t been covered.

“It seems fine. Alive.”

“Sofia went today with her parents.” Edward rolled his eyes.

“Why did she return to you at all?” I asked.

“She felt lonely and sad.” He smiled. “It is strange that she did not go with her lover.”

“Is there a lover now?” I said doubtfully. “They may have separated completely. You don’t know the details and you saw the correspondence a long time ago. Perhaps Sofia will be faithful to you for now.”

“You’re right.” Edward agreed. “But now I’m not interested. We only have a few days to finish the project. Do you think we can handle it?”

“Where are we going?” I shrugged. Edward stood up and walked over to me. He hugged me gently and kissed me on the forehead. This gesture made me feel a little better. And I got out.

Something unimaginable was going on in my head. I guess it reflected on my face. I was that type eaten by the strange looks of the companions.

Alexandra looked at me with concern. I approached her:

“Good Morning. I really want coffee. A lot of coffee.”

“You don’t look very good… Did you sleep?” She looked at me from head to toe.

“No. Don’t ask why…”

Alexandra nodded without asking questions and we headed into the kitchen. There I tried not to bring up the subject with Edward at all and just chatted with a colleague about any topic. She relieved me a bit and a good coffee cheered me up.

“Well. Much better.” I smiled. “Forward to the end of the project!”

Lots of drama, but work wasn’t going to wait!

Anna blocked my way. Seeing her, something in my heart skipped a beat.

“Elvira!” She exclaimed and hugged me. Alexandra went over to her workplace, leaving us alone. All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.

“Hi, good to see you.” I mumbled in confusion.

“I have a question for you…”

“Of course.” I nodded and followed her.

“Listen… I decided to throw a pajama party with you tonight. Cocktails, pajamas, movies or TV shows, whatever you want… I’ll cook lots of delicacies! What do you think?”

Anna looked at me hopefully. I realized that I didn’t want to cheat on her. No doubt she was beautiful, charming, great… But I was more attracted to Edward. Also, I really had to sleep…

“I’m sorry.” I looked at her regretfully. “I just can’t today. I did not sleep all night. There is still a lot of work to do, Edward and I have to finish the project.”

“Yes.” Anna drawled, and her happy expression disappeared from her face, as if she had erased it herself. “I understand… you and Edward, then. Yes.”

In the last words she made a clear emphasis. I stared at her. What did she mean by that?

“Do you have something with him?” Anna snapped and breathed often.

“N… no…” I mumbled.

I didn’t always manage to lie and Anna got it. But for some reason she didn’t want to reveal the truth to me.

Anna came over and kissed me. I didn’t kiss her back, but I didn’t push her away either. I didn’t want to reciprocate…

“Elvira, what happened?” She looked into my eyes with surprise and even some resentment. “You don’t like me? You recently kissed me willingly…”

“Anna, you are amazing.” I admitted. “But I don’t want to give you false hope. I can have sex with you, but that’s it… I don’t want to have anything serious with you, you know, I don’t have those plans. If you don’t mind this situation…”

The girl became thoughtful. Then she answered in a low voice:

“I’ll think about it. Thanks for your honesty, Elvira.”

She nodded with an indifferent look and turned, making it clear that the conversation was over. I didn’t know how else to apologize to her, so I left…
