Chapter 420
Yara's face fell instantly. Just as she was about to ask if Yvette knew something, the latter added, "Why can't I even compare to your stepdaughter? Since you hate me so much, why did you give birth to me?" Yara's tense gaze finally relaxed a little. Then, she coldly mocked Yvette, saying, "If it weren't for your dad, I wouldn't have wanted you in the first place. Your existence is a mistake!"
Yvette had heard that countless times and thought she would've gotten over it by now. However, she still felt hurt when she heard it. She probably wanted her mother to love her like everyone else. Before she left, she coldly looked at Yara. "If I had a choice, I wouldn't want to be your daughter either." After saying that, she hurriedly left.
As Yara watched Yvette leave, she silently clenched her fists.
Then, Zoey approached her and asked, "What were you two talking about, Mom?"
Yara returned to her senses. She didn't look cold anymore; instead, she looked gentle. "It was nothing."
"Mom, you don't seem to like Yvette." Zoey was curious about it. After all, there wouldn't be a mother in the world who wouldn't love her daughter.
Although Gemma had been busy abroad, she'd promised to attend Zoey's engagement. She'd also said she'd let Zoey have part of the shares in the Zelniks' family business.
"Don't bring her up. If it hadn't been for her, I'd still be a well-known dancer; I wouldn't have fallen at all," Yara coldly said.
Zoey figured out what was going on, and she stopped asking about it.
When Yvette returned to Lane Mansion and got out of the car, she saw Jeremiah standing nearby. He was tall and slim, and his face looked abnormally pale. His eyes looked the same as Xavier's, but they were obviously gentler.
He approached her. "Are you done shopping? I hope Zoey didn't put you in a spot."
Yvette awkwardly stood there and shook her head. "No. Zoey is still in the car with her mom."
Since Zoey was going to be Jeremiah's wife in the future, there was no way Yvette would say anything bad about her in front of him.
When he heard that Zoey hadn't returned with Yvette, he got closer to the latter. Then, he softly said, "Yvvy, if you're having regrets now, you can still tell me about it."
He wanted her to tell him that she wanted to be with him. Then, he'd immediately cancel the engagement.
Yvette's heart skipped a beat, and she immediately shook her head without any hesitation. "I have no regrets. Besides, things are going well between you and Zoey, and she looks impressive-"
Before she could finish her words, Jeremiah suddenly lost his balance and fell toward her. Yvette was shocked, and she hurriedly supported him. "What's wrong with you?"
His eyes were red, and he looked tired. "I'm having a relapse. Can you hold on to me for a little while longer?"
"Sure." She didn't overthink it and put down the bags to hold him with both arms.
As Jeremiah leaned on her shoulder
and smelled the familiar scent on her, he felt at ease. "I'm not sure if you still remember, but I used to

Yvette felt like there was a knife stabbing her heart. She knew she'd be hurting him if she gave him any hope at that moment. So, she tried to be as distant as she could "I
didn't know better back then."
Jeremiah suppressed the bitterness in his heart. "Yeah, I know. I won't take it seriously in the future anymore."
He bent down and quietly leaned on
her weak shoulder. Then, he pursed his lips tightly. Suddenly, he noticed someone taking a picture of them behind a tree near them. So, he reached out and put his hand around Yvette.
From that person's point of view, it looked like they were hugging each other.
