Chapter 309
Zachary had followed Malcolm to Lane Mansion that day. He had said that he wanted to see his so-called father that Shannon had found.
However, he was actually there to see who had replaced Xavier. That was why he had purposely made Malcolm bring him to where Xavier had been staying before.
"I guess he's not coming today, Zac. We won't be seeing him this time." Malcolm sighed. He had originally been planning on punishing "Zachary's dad" with him for abandoning his wife and son. Zachary didn't mind about it, but he pretended to care. If you see him one day, you have to call me."Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
"Alright." Malcolm patted his chest and said, "When I become the CEO of Lane Group one day, I'll get someone to punish him."
He wasn't even a grown up yet, but he was showing potential to be a tyrant in the future. Who knew where he got that personality from?
Zachary continued giving him perfunctory responses. Suddenly, his gaze fell on a tall man nearby.
Jeremiah was wearing a black coat as he stood tall in the snow. He had also noticed the two children. He looked exactly like Xavier, but Zachary could immediately tell that it was someone else. First of all, Xavier was at Sangine County at that moment. Since Zachary also had a twin, he was more perceptive than others. He could tell that the man wasn't Xavier from the air around the latter alone. When Jeremiah saw Zachary, he was stunned as well. The child looked similar to himself and Xavier when they had been younger.
He quickly walked toward the kids. When Malcolm noticed Jeremiah approaching them, he thought the latter had heard him talking about snatching the CEO position.
So, he anxiously stood up straight. "Hi, Uncle Xav."
Jeremiah coldly answered with a hum before looking at Zachary. "Who is this?"
"Hello, mister. I'm Zachary Snyder," Zachary answered like an obedient boy.
He noticed Jeremiah didn't have any reaction at all. Even though the latter was impersonating Xavier, Zachary could tell the man in front of him wasn't Xavier at all.
When Jeremiah heard Zachary's last name, his pupils constricted a little. He didn't ask about Zachary anymore. The latter looked at him innocently. "Mister, have we met before?"
Jeremiah didn't refute. "I don't remember."
"Mister, you have a terrible memory. Make sure you don't let anyone find out about it." Zachary was secretly implying something else.
Jeremiah was surprised for a split second, but that feeling disappeared in an instant. After all, Zachary was just a kid; he figured the child wouldn't be up to something. So, he stopped worrying about Zachary. "Please don't be angry, Uncle Xav. I was just kidding earlier." When Malcolm realized that Jeremiah wasn't talking to him at all, he tried to carefully explain himself.
However, Jeremiah didn't understand why Malcolm would suddenly apologize to him at all. "Alright. Run
along with your friend now."
"Okay!" Malcolm hurriedly grabbed Zachary's hand, ready to leave.
Before Zachary left, he turned his head back once more to look at Jeremiah. He decided to look into the latter's background and find out who he was. He needed to know what this imposter was up to. When Jeremiah saw Zachary turning around, he remembered a woman. His heart skipped a beat, and he thought about how Yvette had called him when they had been younger.
"Xav!"
Jeremiah pursed his lips tightly. He only left when the children had disappeared from his sight.
Zachary wasn't done yet. He had only seen Jeremiah once, and it was still early. "Malcolm, didn't you say you were going to be Lane Group's CEO in the future? Why are you so afraid of your uncle?" Malcolm immediately blushed in embarrassment. "Nonsense! I'm not afraid of him. My mom said that he's not up for the task, and I'll even have to take care of him in the future."
"In that case, do you dare to take me to his house?"
Malcolm said immediately, "Of course!"
