Chapter 307
After Yvette had married Xavier, he had told Mark to give her a card. There had been 1.2 million dollars in it as well.
Back then, Mark had said, "This has 1.2 million dollars. Mr. Lane is giving this to you as your monthly allowance. He also said his money doesn't grow on trees. So, you'll have to record how much you've spent whenever you buy something."
When she had agreed to let Xavier stay with her, she had thought about it. She wanted him to experience everything she had faced with him and the Lanes in the past.
That way, he could have a taste of his own medicine and restore bits and pieces of his memories.
She figured his pride would definitely be hurt, especially since he liked maintaining his reputation. After all, he now had to depend on a woman and report everything to her. However, when he accepted the card, he didn't look angry at all. Instead, it looked like he was smiling as well. "Yvvy, let me know if you need anything. I'll buy everything together."
Yvette was stunned. "I don't need anything." She wanted to see how long he could keep up the pretense.
Yvette returned to her room to get some rest. Shortly after she left, Mark came and helped with the chores.
He knew about what had happened during the shareholder meeting as well, and he was in disbelief.
It finally made sense to him why Shannon suddenly told him that he was dismissed. She had told him not to return to Lane Group anymore. He thought Shannon was cruel. After all, Xavier was her own son. After Mark was done doing the chores, Xavier called him to get in the car and suddenly passed him a card. "What's this, Mr. Lane?”
Xavier said with a smile, "Yvvy has given me some money, and she's letting me buy a dishwasher and a robot vacuum."
Mark was confused. He heard Xavier saying happily, "She's definitely worried about me not having any money. When I gave her a gold card before, she didn't even want it."
When she had learned that someone had replaced him that afternoon, she couldn't help asking how he felt. Then, she had given him the card that night. Xavier figured she thought he had lost his money after having his position snatched away.
When Mark heard Xavier saying it like that, he wondered if the latter had a misunderstanding.
"Mr. Lane, how much did Mrs. Lane give you?"
"1.2 million dollars. She said that she would give me more every month," Xavier said.
When Mark heard the amount, he thought it sounded familiar.
Suddenly, he remembered how Xavier used to tell him to transfer monthly allowances to Yvette back then. Her allowance had been 1.2 million dollars as well.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Mark realized she was getting her revenge on Xavier. He thought it was fortunate that Xavier had misunderstood the situation. Otherwise, he would be heartbroken.
"Keep this card carefully, and don't use the money in it. Then, get someone to buy the robot vacuum and dishwasher. Remember to report how much you've spent." "Yes, sir," Mark answered.
As he held the card in his hand, he wondered if Xavier would blow his top if he recovered his memories one day.
After Xavier was done assigning the tasks to Mark, he asked about the company. Since Jeremiah had replaced Xavier, Mark and some other staff who had been close to Xavier had all been fired. However, Xavier had way more wealth than what the rumors said. So, Mark wasn't worried about not getting paid while still working for him. He told Xavier everything he knew, including everything abroad that was under Xavier's control.
"Mr. Lane, that's all I know. You'll have to wait until your memory comes back to know the rest."
Xavier's true capabilities weren't as simple as they seemed. Even Mark didn't know everything about him. "Find a job for now. When you come next time, be careful and don't let anyone find out," Xavier reminded.
"Yes, sir."
When Yvette woke up the next morning, Xavier was already awake. She saw a table full of breakfast. A new robot vacuum and dishwasher had also been installed, and the receipts were on the table.
