Chapter 299
When Yvette got home, it was already after 9:00 pm.
She cleared out the storeroom for Xavier to stay in. It was sparsely furnished, but it did have its own bathroom. It would prevent him from bothering her and Viola.
That night at 10:00 pm on the dot, a Maybach pulled over in front of the house.
Xavier was sitting straight in the backseat. His obsidian eyes seemed devoid of any emotion.
The driver, Martin Clarkson, got out of the car and stood outside the window. He said respectfully, "Mr. Lane, we've arrived. I'll go and ask Mrs. Lane to come and get you." As Xavier had instructed, no one except Martin had come with him.
Xavier thought about what he had said to Yvette after they had left the courthouse. He had told her that he would never bother her again.
"Lead me there," Xavier said as he got out of the car. He didn't seem different from a normal person at all.
"Alright." Martin tentatively reached out to take his arm, but Xavier refused his help. "You just need to tell
me which direction to walk in."
He didn't like being touched by strangers, and he disliked the idea of having someone take his arm while
he walked because it made him feel like he was useless. 2
"Alright."
Xavier followed Martin's instructions and walked steadily to the front door.
Martin had expected Yvette to be waiting at the door, but the door was shut tightly. He had no choice but
to knock.
Yvette only opened the door when she heard him knocking.
A blast of chilly air swept inside, and she pulled her clothes tighter around her. She didn't even look at Xavier as she said coldly, "Come in, then."
Martin watched Xavier walk in while he remained outside, unable to follow him in.
The moment he turned to leave, he heard a crash.
He turned back to look inside the house and realized that Yvette was completely ignoring Xavier and had just let him follow along behind her. Hence, Xavier had bumped into the couch. Martin wanted to say something to her, but he felt that it would be too nosy of him. After all, she and
Xavier were a married couple. 1
When he got back inside the car, Martin sighed. He decided that he would have to take care to never
offend his wife.
He often drove Xavier around, and he knew how the latter had treated Yvette in the past.
Inside the house, Yvette looked back at Xavier, who had bumped into the couch. "Can't you be more careful when you're walking around? The largest object in this house is this couch."
Xavier wasn't angry at all when he heard her familiar voice. "I'll remember that,"
Yvette was startled.
Xavier said again, "Don't get angry. I'll ask someone to deliver a new couch tomorrow." He thought it wouldn't be good for the baby if Yvette got angry, Xavier's humble behavior was a new experience for Yvette. She had planned on continuing to berate him, but she suddenly felt rather embarrassed.
"I don't want your stuff. You're not allowed to get it delivered. Come with me to your room."
Xavier listened to her voice and reached out to grab her arm.
Yvette jmmediately pulled her hand away. "I'm not going to take care of you. If you want to stay here, then you'll have to rely on yourself."
Xavier's Adam's apple bobbed up and down. "Alright." He had never planned to have her take care of him
anyway.
He listened to her footsteps and followed her to the cramped storeroom.NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
Yvette had laid out the toiletries for him. "My adopted mother, Viola, is living here too. Be careful when you're at home, and don't come out of your room if you don't need to." Yvette thought of Viola as her mother, not as a nanny.
"Alright." After Xavier had lost his memories, he seemed like an entirely different person.
Seeing that there was nothing else that needed to be done and that it was getting late, Yvette went out and headed to Viola's room. She told the latter about Xavier living downstairs. She had just finished talking when there was a loud thump from downstairs.
