Chapter 98
Chapter 98
"You knew from the beginning?"
Kaley's eyes lit up, and she nodded saying, "Trista recently saw Izabella taking some medicine and got curious. Turns out, her daughter-in-law was taking the same pills for her pregnancy."
So he was the last to know Izabella was pregnant? Brett didn't feel great about it and equally didn't understand why Izabella would keep it from him.
Thinking of the lost child, Brett's heart ached. He asked, "When did you find out?"
"Yesterday. I thought you knew, so I didn't tell you." Kaley lowered her head.
Kaley hesitated and glanced at Brett's face before saying, "Before Izabella pushed me down the stairs today, she said a few things..."
"What did she say?"
Kaley hesitated even more, making Brett increasingly frustrated.
"Don't be mad at what I'm about to say. After all, Izabella just had a miscarriage."
Brett stared at her.
"She said she felt disgusted being with you and also said," Kaley paused, looking at him. At that moment, Brett's face was tensed, and the bloodstains on his shirt added a hint of murderousness to his appearance.
Kaley's heart skipped a beat, but she tried to stabilize her emotions before finishing her sentence, "She said she wants to take revenge on us. Brett, I'm not overthinking it. The fact that she said all
these things and hid her pregnancy from you, I suspect she deliberately miscarried to make you feel guilty."
Brett's eyes were deep and unreadable, like a bottomless abyss.
Brett appeared calm on the surface, but his hand tightly clenched into a fist. He was suppressing his anger.
"Did Izabella really say that?"
Kaley nodded.
Brett let out a bitter laugh, seeming to understand everything at once. No wonder Izabella kept her pregnancy a secret. She was waiting to strike right here.
Thinking he would feel guilt and regret to fuel her revenge? Nice try.
Usually, Brett's emotions didn't show on his face. Although his heart ached like burning fire, his face remained calm. Kaley couldn't quite tell his emotional state, but she accomplished her goal.
She didn't believe that after all this, Brett would want to be with Izabella.
"Brett, were you serious about agreeing to all my conditions in the phone call today?"
Brett replied, "Yeah, anything I can give you, I will."
Kaley looked straight at him and said with hurt in her voice, "I want to marry you. I don't want to be called your mistress by Izabella anymore."
Brett's eyes were cold, but he suddenly gave a hint of a smile, "I'll marry you in a year."
Kaley stiffened, her voice trembling with restrained emotions, "Why wait a year?"
"Kaley, do you like children?" Brett asked.
Kaley didn't quite understand his intention, but thinking of children... she touched her stomach; the car accident four years ago had taken away her ability to become a mother. From NôvelDrama.Org.
"I do, but I won't have my own child in this lifetime..." The more she thought about it, the more she resented Izabella! If it wasn't for her, she wouldn't have been in the car accident.
These years she'd been avoiding this issue, but now that Brett brought it up, she had to face it.
The Windham family wasn't an ordinary family, as a prestigious clan, they valued offspring the most. If she couldn't have children... Brett's parents wouldn't allow her marry him.
Kaley cautiously asked, "Brett, is it because I can't have children that you aren't divorcing Izabella?"
Brett held Kaley's cold hand, gently stroking the back of her hand, trying to comfort her, "Stop imagining things! Technology is so advanced these days, we can use scientific methods if it comes to it. And not to mention how painful childbirth can be."
Pausing, Brett's expression suddenly became cold, "But now we have a ready-made one."
"Ready-made?"
"Yeah, I want a child with Izabella. What do you think?" His tone seemed to be asking for her opinion, but his gaze wouldn't take no for an answer.
Kaley was reluctant. Though she said she liked kids, she wouldn't want to adopt Izabella's child. What was Brett thinking?
She swallowed her complaints, realizing that Brett was set on this decision. So she might as well agree with him.
Thinking from another perspective, this could also be a way to torment Izabella. The idea of being able to torment her child in the future started to sound appealing.
