Chapter 77
Chapter 77
"How could I talk when you were pinching my mouth?" Izabella looked at the painkillers in the vomit on the floor, wondering if they would still work after being thrown up.
Izabella looked half-dead and barely hanging on, her body completely relying on Brett's embrace. She whispered, "If you really care about me, just mind your own business and let me sleep..."
Brett looked at Izabella's downcast eyes and her cuddly appearance as if she were a cat trying to please.
Izabella's body was soft and cold, her face pale as paper, and her eyes watery. She was naturally beautiful, and when she was sick, she still looked pathetic and made people feel an urge to hold her close.
Brett hesitated for a moment, reaching out to undress her.
Izabella felt unwell, her whole body becoming dazed. She was like a dying cat in Brett's arms.
Brett easily undressed her, carried her to the bathroom, and put her in hot water.
The moment Izabella was put into the hot water, she felt as if her pores had opened, and she couldn't help shaking. Her clear eyes became even brighter.
"You stink, make sure you clean yourself well." After putting her down, Brett turned back to the bedroom, looked at the vomit on the floor with annoyance. He couldn't stop worrying about Izabella, after all, he had never heard of such a severe period reaction.
He called the family doctor to explain the situation and rushed her over.
After hanging up the phone, Brett went out to tell Trista to come upstairs and clean.
Izabella soaked in the hot water, her forehead covered in sweat. After lying in the bathtub for nearly 20 minutes, she finally managed to suppress the gut-wrenching pain.
"Are you okay?" Brett asked from the other side.
Instead of replying, Izabella struggled to stand up and put on her bathrobe.
Not getting any answer, Brett bent down and carried her. "Do you have any other illnesses besides stomach aches?"
That's what the doctor asked on the phone, and Brett was never concerned about Izabella, so understandably, he had no idea about her health.
Izabella let him hold her and coldly answered, "Recently, I've been nauseous, lethargic, and sleepy. Considering all these symptoms, I think I might have Hepatitis B, so you better stay away from me in case I infect you."
Brett thought she was babbling nonsense because of her illness and didn’t take her seriously.
Seeing her hand on her stomach, he thought her stomach was hurting. "You were supposed to stay home and not go out, now you know what stomach pain is, huh?" Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
"I've known the taste of stomach pain for a long time, I don't need you to tell me."
"Izabella, I'm worried about you."
Worried? Anyway, she couldn't hear any tone of concern. Izabella didn't say a word, just pouting her mouth stubbonly.
Sometimes Brett thought that Izabella was born to defy him. It was a good thing he had self-control, otherwise, with her temper, he could have killed her in a fit of rage.
The sheets had been changed, and it was comfortable to lie down. The air conditioner was set just right, and it was warm and cozy under the covers, making Izabella feel drowsy.
At this moment, Trista brought the family doctor upstairs.
Hearing the noise, Izabella's pupils shrank and she turned her head to look.
"President Windham." The family doctor was a woman in her forties, wearing glasses and looking a bit serious.
Brett nodded, "Take a look at her and see if you can relieve her pain."
"We'll need to go to the hospital for a thorough examination. I can only give a rough diagnosis and prescribe some medicine here."
Brett nodded, "I know. She's been to the hospital before and there was nothing wrong with her, just a slight stomachache, plus today is her period."
The family doctor walked over to Izabella after explaining.
Izabella was dizzy, barely understanding from the conversation that this was the doctor Brett had just called. She looked at the doctor cautiously and then glared at Brett.
She had said she didn't want a doctor, so why ask one to come?
Brett was so domineering. She used to like him so much that she thought everything about him was perfect. But now she's fed up with him making decisions without asking her.
But the doctor was already there, and she couldn't turn her away without losing face. She still had some manners.
Izabella closed her eyes, sorted out her thoughts, and opened them again to greet the doctor.
The family doctor smiled in return, "Mrs. Windham, I am President Windham's newly hired family doctor. Here's my business card. If you feel unwell in the future, just call me. I'll be there."
Izabella took the card and read the name on it. "Nice to meet you, Dr. James."
Dr. James asked about Izabella's symptoms and did a simple check-up. However, without adequate medical equipment, she couldn't diagnose Izabella's gastric cancer or other conditions.
Izabella also tried to blur the description of her symptoms as much as possible, claiming her recent nausea was due to exhaustion and heatstroke from traveling .
This explanation was completely reasonable.
Dr. James prescribed an assortment of medicines, including some specifically for treating her uterus and some warming patches for her abdomen. The patches did make Izabella feel much more comfortable.
Dr. James asked, "Do you normally take any other medications?"
Izabella's heart tightened. "...Yes."
"Can I see them?"
"What's there to see?" Izabella pursed her thin lips, the corner of her mouth twitching stiffly.
"Just get them out and show them, what's the fuss?" Brett opened the drawer and took out a bunch of bottles and jars. "These are the medicines she usually takes."
Dr. James explained, "I just want to check if you can take the medicines I prescribed together with these."
Dr. James briefly checked the bottles, which contained ordinary supplements, stomach medicine, painkillers, and other substances with no side effects. However, when she opened one of the bottles, she felt the medicines inside seemed familiar and weren't like supplements.
It was not her expertise, so it's normal for her not to remember the name of the medicine. Everyone would forget, let alone so many medicines.
Furthermore, the label on the medicine bottle stated it was supplyments, so Dr. James didn't think much of it.
"Every medicine has its side effects, you know? So you should take those meds I gave you first, and then go for those supplements."
Izabella felt relieved when she saw that there was no suspicion, "Thanks, Dr. James, I got it."
Dr. James gave some advice and handed over a prescription to Brett, briefly explaining the precautions.
"President Windham, your wife is obviously weak, and it isn’t something that happened overnight. So let her get plenty of rest and pay attention to her diet too."
"How do we pay attention to her diet?" Brett asked patiently.
