Chapter 2157
Chapter 2157
Kendrix felt a little helpless for his misfortune that day.
What a lousy start to the year.
He thought he had been at everyone's mercy that day.
Perhaps he shouldn't have stayed and chatted with William, or he wouldn't be in such an awkward situation.
Look where it landed him, rendered speechless, unseemly if he didn't answer but out of line if he did.
It was a Catch-22.
"I agree with you." Kendrix smiled and said nonchalantly, "Some do need to grow a pair, but he should also abide by boundaries. Some lines shouldn't be crossed."
He was a policeman; it was a no-brainer for him.
He would be committing a crime if he crossed it.
Kendrix always had a sense of rationality to whatever and whenever. Some might find him dawdling, but that was his bottom line.
William was taken aback by his reply, not expecting Kendrix to have such an understanding.
Bottom line, huh?
Indeed, some people knew no limits.
He nodded unconsciously, seemingly already agreeing with his standpoint.
Perhaps Kendrix was right.
Since he had put it that way, William didn't press him any further.
He already had a good idea of the situation from their conversation.
He smiled and nodded again. Suddenly, he said, "Sylvia, I'm tired. Bring the wheelchair over, will you please?"
"Okay."Sylvia jolted back to reality. She was, of course, watchful of his physical condition.
She had wanted to hear more of their conversation, but she could only comply since William was intentionally asking her to leave.
With that, she said, "I'll be right back." However, she turned to Kendrix before leaving, worried, "Please make sure you hold him close, Mr. Trevino." "No problem," Kendrix assured her.
William was in his declining years, and it was clear as day of his condition. Although he was still considerably hale and hearty, he was no longer a young man anyhow.
Kendrix would naturally be more cautious.
Receiving his affirmation, Sylvia gave him a good look before leaving.
She rushed, almost trotting back to the wheelchair.
Only Kendrix and the butler were with William then. William liked the butler because he knew when and what to say and not.
So William didn't mind the butler staying. After Sylvia was a good distance away, he said to Kendrix, "It sure is necessary for young people to shoulder some responsibility and morality."
Kendrix smiled and faced William. "Compared to the older generation, the younger generation is not as responsible and ethical."
"Times are changing." William smiled. "Some can live even if they have to abandon some spiritual matters, but some can't. No one can force anyone."
Kendrix nodded.
"However, overly abiding by your principles will only bring you suffering." William looked ahead. "You wouldn't be crossing the line if it only involves the two of you when it comes to love."
Struck with epiphany, Kendrix nodded. "Thank you for your wisdom, Mr. Carter."
Hearing that he was able to talk some sense into Kendrix, William nodded with satisfaction. It seemed that Kendrix was intelligent and upright. How
rare.
The group slowly walked forward, with Kendrix supporting William on his left and the butler on the other.
William's steps were very steady; he didn't look the least bit tired at all.
But Kendrix knew William deliberately sent Sylvia away to talk to him in private.
Sure enough, after a while, William smiled and said, "Aren't you curious how I saw through you two?"
Kendrix chewed on his lips for a moment before saying, "You are keen and wise, so it shouldn't come off as surprising."
"Of course." William wasn't modest
at all. "Sylvia has always been a
mischievous one, always up to something, especially good with her words. But I noticed she has quieted down this visit; there must be a reason for her shift in personality."

William's observance surprised Kendrix; baffled that he even noticed it.
It seemed that William was an attentive greatgrandfather.
Sylvia had a loving family.
Kendrix looked back at the road they came from with envy in his eyes; he probably didn't even realize the jealousy.
Only that it was wonderful.
At this time, Sylvia was pushing the wheelchair toward them at a fast pace.
William saw her as well, looking over his shoulder before saying to Kendrix, "Young man, if you like her, you must seize the chance and treasure her; if you don't, don't force it either."
"Of course." Kendrix nodded. "I'll heed your words."
"You're smart. But you never
admitted your feelings for Sylvia no matter how I asked." There was a trace of regret in William's tone as he heayed a long sigh. "I just don't know if I can live to see her getting married."
S
Kendrix stiffened for a second at William's words, feeling bad for him.
Then he said, "I'm sure you'll live a long life."
"My longevity won't bless her with a
boyfriend." William had a feeling Kendrix was beginning to waver and
el
continued to pretend to be miserable. "I'm a step closer to waving the grim reaper hello every day" "I'm sure you will see her living her happily ever after," Kendrix said again.
"No... I'll probably die not knowing who will look after our little Sylvie." William said, casting a sideways glance at Kendrix as if he was complaining, "Can't you just admit it? Must you keep at this game?"
Kendrix just smiled under William's watchful gaze.
William sighed again. What a stubborn child!
Unfortunately, he was overly stubborn.
There was a flash of worry in his eyes.
It was good to have principles, but abiding strictly by them would only do damage.
William looked over his shoulder at Sylvia, who was nearing them.
"Great-grandpa, come, sit down." Sylvia heaved, out of breath from running too fast.
On the one hand, she was worried her greatgrandfather was genuinely exhausted and had to rest.
On the other, she was worried he would say something weird to Kendrix.
William nodded and sat in a wheelchair. He then instructed the butler, "You can go back first. Let them keep me company."
"Yes." The butler obliged and said to Sylvia and Kendrix, "I'll leave Old Master Carter to you, Miss Sylvia, Mr. Trevino."
Kendrix nodded and agreed to stay longer.
