The Runaway Groom

The Runaway Groom Chapter 69

Chapter 69

Samantha tried to reach for Irene again, but Zachary stopped her and warned , “Mess around again, and I’m calling the cops!”

That finally kept the woman in line.

Leading Irene to his car, he asked, “What’s going on here? I told you I’d help you get discharged. Why were you trying to leave early?”

Irene kept her head down. “I just felt like it.”

“Want me to drive you home?” he asked.

Irene nodded. “Okay.”

Neither of them spoke before they reached the mansion.

.

When they reached the front gates and Zachary stopped his car, he hesitated for a moment before telling Irene, “I got Isaac a woman like you’d suggested last night, but he did not even touch her.”

Irene suddenly looked up, slightly surprised and cheering

up without knowing it herself.

Nonetheless, she kept her indifferent expression. “Really?

Zachary nodded. “Of course. Would I lie to you?”

Irene naturally believed him.

Then, as she alighted, he suddenly called out to her again. “Irene…”

“Yeah?” She turned around.

Holding her gaze for a while, Zachary then asked, “Has Lulu ever contacted you since?”

Irene suddenly avoided his gaze. “…No.” All content is © N0velDrama.Org.

She was not lying to Zachary, but Lulu Adams had forbidden Irene from telling Zachary about where she had

gone.

Lulu was Irene’s senior in medical school, being in Zachary’s year and the object of his affection.

They were the most admired sweethearts on campus, but

broke up later on, with Lulu leaving the city soon after.

Zachary had been looking for her ever since.

Now, his expression turned mournful even as he said, ” Please tell me if she does reach out. I think I want a reason even if I’d agree to breaking up with her, instead of parting ways without a word.”

Irene nodded. “Okay.”

She could not help feeling guilty toward Zachary just then, but she had promised Lulu that she would not breathe a word.

Entering the mansion , she found that Mrs. Watson had packed up several food containers and was preparing to head to the hospital, unaware that Irene was getting discharged today.

Still, she was happy to see Irene return. “Welcome back, Mrs. Jefferson!”

Irene nodded as Mrs. Watson came to help her inside.

At the same time, Isaac came downstairs, and did not look her way after he saw her return, let alone say a word

to her.

After all, he still remembered her suggesting to Zachary to get him a woman.

What did she take him for?

Did she think he would kiss just any woman thrown his way?

On the other hand, Irene could tell that he was upset, but was unaware of the reason.

After he finally left, she asked Mrs. Watson, “What’s with him? Who got him upset?”

III

Mrs. Watson shook her head. “I don’t know.”

Irene wondered then if it was about last night, but if he was, should he not be angry at Whitney instead?

Whitney was the one who deceived him, and her attempt to drug Irene missed and got Isaac instead.

Zachary also mentioned that Isaac did not touch the woman he brought for him… so it must have been a grueling night.

In the end, Whitney was the reason it had happened in the first place… so he was probably upset at her, was he not?

Naturally , Irene did not dwell on it since she was never going to reach an answer.

As afternoon arrived, she was sprawled in front of her laptop and answering patient consultations online.

That was when Mrs. Watson dashed upstairs urgently, yelping, “Mrs. Jefferson! This is horrible-look!”
