I’d Rather Not
Merissa screamed angrily as she threw her phone across the room. Her face flushed with a bright shade of red, showing how angered she was. “Lily!” She gritted out with a cold and malicious tone.
“I will ruin your life just like you have done to mine! I will make you regret your existence!” She declared.
Mrs Smith pushed open the door after knocking twice without any reply. She paused at the door as she noticed Merissa’s disoriented appearance and puffy eyes.
“Mom!” Merissa choked up as she noticed her mother’s presence in the room.
“Did something happen during the dinner with the Stark? Your father has been angry since you two returned” Mrs Smith asked curiously. “Was the deal cancelled?” She asked, making Merissa who had just managed to reign in her tears burst out crying again.
“I don’t want to marry into the Stark family again. My life will be miserable there!” She cried out and Mrs Smith felt an ache in her heart.
“Tell me, what happened?” She probed as Merissa narrated the dinner ordeal. Mrs Smith couldn’t help the anger that arose from her daughter’s humiliation.
“Mom, please, have dad decline the marriage agreement!” She pleaded with sobs.
“Don’t worry, I will talk to your father, there is no way the contract will be more important than his daughter!” She assured while gently patting her back to help her calm. “Wash your face and get a good night’s sleep. Okay?” Mrs Smith encouraged.
“I will book a flight and you will go to Paris with me next week for the fashion show and then I will introduce you to some famous designers! Once you’ve made your name known, no one would dare look down on you!”
“What about Lily? Are we just going to leave her like that? She is the cause of all this! I can’t sit quietly until she is dealt with!” Merissa gritted out.
“For now we can’t do anything to her, people’s eyes are still on you two. Before the national competition starts, she will come back and beg you on her own. I promise you!” Mrs Smith declared as she wiped her daughter’s tears.
“That’s good! She must be taught and shown where she belongs!”
As Merissa went in to get showered, Mrs Smith frowned and went back into her room to see her husband drinking and smoking on their bedroom balcony. With a sneer, she walked towards him.
“Why would you agree to such a ridiculous condition? Don’t you have your daughter’s best interest at heart?” She demanded angrily but was ignored by him. “You have to go back and tell those disrespectful Starks that my daughter wouldn’t be marrying into their family! How could you even have the guts to do such a thing!”
“Your daughter was humiliated to such an extent and you still agreed! How do you want your daughter and me to deal with the stigma in the future?” She yelled, her voice going higher by the second.
“What choice do we have?” Mr Smith replied grudgingly, his eyes squinted from dizziness. “Reject their offer and be suppressed forever? Your daughter’s dignity is just a little sacrifice for the future of the Smith corporation, stop yelling like a mad dog!” He sneered and downed another cup of wine.
“What did you just call me?”
“What did you just hear me call you? Don’t make everything all about you. If you had raised her better, she wouldn’t have ended up the way she did!” He countered. “If you are not satisfied with the outcome, go to your family and have them invest in the Smith corporation” he demanded and Mrs Smith froze in shock, her body trembling with anger.
“Oh wait! Your family went bankrupt ages ago and they now depend on me!” He added with a dark chuckle. “The contract has been signed and there is no going back, if you want your daughter out of the humiliation, raise the money to sponsor the state project instead of squandering my money” he sneered and walked away, leaving Mrs Smith stunned and angry.

“You will be away for one month? One month!” Alana exclaimed before Lily could explain. “Where are you going to? Is everything okay at home?” She asked worriedly.
“Everything is fine, I was invited to attend a fashion show in Paris with a senior from school” Lily explained while packing her necessities into the travelling bag.
“Oh! Is it for the annual fashion show between big fashion companies?” Alana asked as she remembered her parents were saying something about the main daughter going.
“Yes, it’s the one. Is your family attending too?” Lily asked curiously.
“No. Although our family is also in the fashion line which mostly deals with textile supplies as sewing for other major companies” Alana explained. “But my cousin, the main daughter, was invited to be a seamstress for one of the major fashion companies in the country and she’ll be attending” she added.
“Do you want to come with me? Not as a seamstress of course, since I was invited into a team. You can just come to learn” Lily offered.
“I’d rather not. Don’t worry, I will support you from here. I’m trying to minimize my appearance around the main family these days and it seems to have been working so far since none of them have been giving me a problem” Alana explained.
“If you insist. I have some designs ready. I will send it to you and you can pick one to work on until I get back”
“Yes! Finally, I get to work!” Alana exclaimed excitedly, making Lily chuckle.
“I know you’ve been anticipating it, each one of the designs has its recommended fabric attached to it but if you think there is a better choice, you can go for it” she added.
“Don’t worry, I will make sure the product comes out fine!”Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
“I trust you! All of those designs are the ones we will use to open our fashion line and it must be standard. How is Gary’s training?” Lily asked.
“Oh, it’s going great. He came by to help around the studio yesterday and we took some practice photos and it was good. I’m helping him set up his social media account as a model” Alana explained excitedly.
“Are you going to be his manager?” Lily asked with a chuckle.
“For now, yeah, I don’t have much to do anyways and since I’m managing the company’s social media account, I can also help him until we have grown enough to employ a manager” Alana replied.
“I will add a little to your pay until we get someone else. I’m going to send you a list of other items I need you to get and then some money”
“Alright, have fun in Paris and bring gifts!”
