The Rebirth of a Scorned Heiress

“They are getting impatient,” Chairman Watson breathed out as the father-son duo walked out of the dining area.

“They’ll start targeting you for real this time; do you have a way to deal with them?” He asked as he poured himself a freshly brewed tea.

Mark smiled at his grandfather with a raised brow. “If people see you worrying about me, they’ll think you are picking sides,” he joked, and the old man glared at him playfully.

“What’s there not to pick sides about? If I leave my hard work to those two, I’m afraid I won’t be able to rest well in my grave.” He replied with a scolding tone.

“They have been unable to do anything right! Instead, they are always scheming against others!” He continued, his brows creasing deeper the longer he spoke.

“I do. However, it may affect the image of the group, so I’m still considering whether or not to use the means or the other one I planned,” Mark replied calmly.

“What’s the difference between the two?” Michael asked curiously as he noticed the seriousness in Mark’s tone.

Knowing how much the group meant to his son, he couldn’t imagine what kind of dilemma he was in having to deal with the stubborn Frederick while also thinking about the image of the group.

“If I use the original means, I can finally throw him off my back permanently, but it will affect the image of the group,” he began. “However, the second means will only delay him for a while, but he’ll definitely bounce back more desperately,” he explained.

Chairman Watson sighed in exasperation. For fair treatment, he had made the rule that his successor would be the person with the most contributions to the group.

Not only amongst his children but even amongst other talented people in the company. He made sure they all started with the same amount of resources and authority, just to make sure no one was receiving preferential treatment.

Even then, there they are, unable to contribute much yet always causing trouble for the others.

“How bad is it?” Michael asked with a frown.

“Depending on what side you are looking at it from, it is not that bad,” Mark replied with a shrug. “The state project he got was in collaboration with the Kims,” he added.

Chairman Watson’s face morphed into an ugly frown upon hearing Mark’s words; his clenched fist slammed into the table to vent his anger. “Those scumbags!”

“What do they think they are doing partnering with those criminals?!” He bellowed, and the vein on his temple popped out just to show how angry he was at the news.

Letting out a sigh, he let his anger go, knowing how much it would affect his health if he continued to be agitated.

“So what do you plan to do?” Chairman Watson asked.

“I plan on dissolving the Kims before the time bomb hanging over our heads explodes; that’s the second means that won’t affect the company’s image. Frederick might even get a little bit of credit,” Mark provided with a mischievous smile.

“For now, the Kims are Frederick’s major support; once they are out of the way, he’ll lose his balance. He’ll definitely take time off to re-strategise, and that will give me enough time to win over the people in other sectors of the group,” he explained.

“That’s the only way I can go about it without affecting the reputation of the group,” he added with a sigh.

“Then how sure are you that you can take the Kims down with this means?” Michael asked worriedly.

His worry wasn’t baseless. They and several others, including the government, have tried to bring down the criminal group for a long time, but they weren’t able to find anything tangible that could lock them away for a long time.

Their disguise as a legal group was so perfect, maybe too perfect, but the stink of their crime still gives them away, but without evidence, they can’t be locked away.

Everyone who has ever gone against them always finds themselves in trouble after their failed attempts.

So going against them was like hitting a mountain with a pebble. The pebble gets broken while the mountain remains standing.

“With the information I have?” Mark mused with a thoughtful expression. “Then that would be about eighty percent. I have enough evidence to have almost all the major power in Kim’s locked away,” Mark replied, and the older men gaped at him in shock.

“How? That’s a whole lot of information; if we had that much confidence, they would have ceased to exist a long time ago,” Michael voiced with a proud smile.

“I had a good source; they never disappoint,” Mark chuckled as Lily’s face flashed through his mind.

“If that’s the case, you should do what you have to do and keep an eye out for those two. I really can’t imagine them having the same gene as me; they are too scheming and impatient!” Chairman Watson instructed.

“I’ll be careful, so what’s the doctor’s report this time?” He queried with a knowing look, making the old man groan in frustration.

“Luckily, I still have a decade to live; if not, I really won’t be able to rest easily in my grave if I leave all of you like this. So stressful,” he concluded, but his lips turned up in a smile.

“Oh, by the way, Rose Anderson will be returning to the country next month; set out a time to pick her up from the airport,” he instructed, and it was time for Mark to groan.

“I already told you I don’t want anything to do with her!” He argued.

“Tell that to your mother, who keeps pushing it. Her return this time is to solidify the engagement between you two, so get yourself sorted out before she comes,” Michael joined in.

Mark frowned deeply, feeling a sudden surge of stress at the thought of his supposed betrothal.

On more than one occasion, he had voiced his stand about the whole engagement, of which his others had always shut him down.

But this time, he knew if he didn’t find a way to completely dissolve the idea, he’d end up marrying the two-faced lady with an ulterior motive.

“There’s nothing to hesitate about,” Chairman Watson said. “Although I do not like her, she’s decent, and her family prestige will help us smoothly enter the international market.”

“So it’s better you go for her than to remain single since you have no one you like. I’m growing old, and I need grandchildren,” he added.

Mark hummed. “I do have someone I like, but it will take a bit more time for me to introduce her to you,” he announced, making Chairman Watson tut in disapproval.

“I won’t be fooled by those fake relationships people do to keep their family off their back. If you have someone you like, that’s no problem, but don’t introduce any woman to me because you need to get rid of Anderson’s daughter,” he warned.

“I’ll bring her to your birthday then, but she’s not my woman yet, so be cooperative or you’ll send your future daughter-in-law away.”
