Chapter 110: Two Sugar Daddies
The following day, Lily woke up to her phone blowing up with calls and messages. She groaned and shut the phone off before going back to sleep only to wake up at noon, feeling more refreshed and relaxed.
As she checked her phone, she noticed she had several missed calls from almost all her close friends and parents and several other messages from Celina and Avon. Clicking on the message from Celina, she frowned in confusion.
Celina: Hey! How are you?
Celina: Why aren’t you picking up? Are you okay?
Celina: Pick up the damn call and talk to me. You are making me worried!
Celina: Stay off social media!
Celina: Damn it! I’m coming over to your place!
Celina: Don’t worry, Mark is handling the media.
Furrowing her brows, she clicked on the other messages from Avon and Alana to see they were all similar.
Letting out a sigh, she decided to check out what made them all panic. However, before she could, her mother’s call came in.
“Hello Mum”
“Lily! Are you okay?” Her mom asked immediately without waiting for their normal greetings; her voice panicked and breathless.
“Of course I am; why won’t I be?” Lily asked in surprise. “Are you okay, mom?” Did something happen at home?”
“We are all fine here,” Mrs. Turner replied. “Where are you? Your Father and I will come to you.”
“Mom, I’m fine, really. I just woke up even,” Lily assured and switched the call to a video call.
She frowned as she noticed her mother packing several boxes of food and also some clothes.
“Are you travelling?” She asked.
“Of course not! I’m bringing all these to you, and then you’ll tell me what the news means.”
“What news?” Lily questioned; her curiosity piqued.Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
“The news is all over the media! Even the television is talking about it!” Her mother replied sternly. “Do you really have a sugar daddy? Which one of them is it? The Watson boy or that French boy-what is his name again? Ah! Yes! Bryan Roux? Are you dating those two?” She questioned worriedly.
Lily raised her brows in surprise, somewhat amused and somewhat awed. As much as she had been meeting up with Bryan, their contact had always been in secret, not for any reason but because the Roux family was an unreasonable bunch.
A family filled with intelligent psyches, one she doesn’t want to engage with…at least for now.
“Mum I don’t have a sugar daddy; why would I need one?” She breathed out while actively suppressing the urge to laugh at her mother’s expression over the phone.
“Mark and I are dating,” she lied.
“The Watson boy?” Mrs Turner asked, and Lily nodded before proceeding.
“And I’ve met his grandfather. Bryan and I are just business partners.”
“And he is my uncle for heaven’s sake!” She added it in her mind.
“Then what is that news going around about you winning the competition because you have two sugar daddies?”
“It’s just a stunt created by my rival; don’t worry, everything will be clarified soon. You have to trust your daughter on these things!” Lily assured, and Mrs Turner breathed out a sigh of relief.
“Since you are dating the Watson guy, do you like him?” She asked. Lily paused, not knowing how to reply to the question.
The question was one she had been trying to avoid since she started meeting up with Mark regularly.
She does admire Mark, but it is not enough to want to date him for real. However, telling her mother that will only worry the old lady.
“I like him,” she replied.
“Good, since you like him, you have my blessing to date him; however, if he treats you badly, you have to respect yourself enough to leave, okay?” Mrs Turner warned, and Lily smiled.
“Those boys from privileged families always think they are the best in the world and feel everyone is below them. Hmph!” She continued. “Once you see that he has started treating you wrongly, leave immediately.”
“Of course I will.”
“That’s my daughter. So, when do we get to meet him? You’ve met his family; why hasn’t he met yours?”
“You’ll meet him soon; both of us have been busy, and I only met his grandfather because I was invited to his birthday banquet,” Lily explained.
“Find some time and bring him home, okay?”
“Yes, mother,” Lily replied with a smile. “Where is Dad? And how are the children treating you?”
“Your father is on the farm with the children; he was worried after seeing the news and couldn’t sit still,” Mrs Turner explained.
“Don’t worry, I’ll let him know the situation after this call, and as for the children, they are so well-behaved; they help us pick oranges on the farm.” While the two were catching up, Lily heard her doorbell ring.
“I have to go now; we’ll talk later.”
“Alright, take care of yourself, okay? Don’t allow those people to bully you so much. When you are tired, just come home, okay?”
“I won’t”
As she pulled open the door, Lily was met with Celina’s worried face.
“Are you okay?” Lily asked as Celina stepped into the house with a big basket of homemade food, ones she had forced their cook to whip together at the last minute.
“Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that?” Celina replied, and Lily shrugged.
“I’m good; never been better.”
“Damn! I was so worried about you, and yet, here you are looking relaxed and fine. Have you not seen the news?” She asked in annoyance.
“I haven’t,” Lily replied while walking into her kitchen to make coffee. “I woke up a few minutes ago to see all the calls and messages. What’s up?”
“So you haven’t seen the news? Thank goodness!” Celina breathed out.
“I haven’t seen it, but I’ve heard about the content. Seeing you like this, I’m kind of curious as to what heinous crime they said I committed.” Lily chuckled and offered Celina a cup of coffee. “Is this food for me?”
“Yeah! Yeah! Eat up,” Celina grumbled, making Lily smirk in amusement.
She picked up her phone once again, deciding to check the content of the news that had everyone panicked. As she read, she let out a laugh, almost spilling her coffee.
“Oh my goodness, this writer has a way with words,” she breathed out. “I would believe it if I wasn’t the protagonist,” she added and closed the page.
“What will you do about it?” Celina asked worriedly, and Lily shrugged.
“Nothing!” She replied.
“I’m just a small fry among two big sharks. My two sugar daddies will solve the problem.” She winked, and Celina rolled her eyes. “Besides, they said I got the first position because of my sugar daddies, so why not allow the competition organisers to clear their name?” She asked.
Celina sighed, finally relaxing. “You still don’t know who is targeting you this much?” She asked and Lily hummed.
“It’s either Frederick or Roseline. Apart from those two, I don’t suspect anyone else,” she replied.
“What about Evie? I heard she’s trying to make a comeback this time,” Celina explained, making Lily frown thoughtfully.
“I almost forgot about her,” she muttered. “I’ll look into it and get it settled; now that you are here, I need you to do something for me,” Lily announced and walked into her room.
Meanwhile, the heated discussion about her relationship scandal keeps getting pushed up the news as people continue discussing the topic.
Perez walked into Bryan’s office with a tablet in hand and a furrowed brow. Seeing Bryan casually sipping away at his glass of wine, he hesitated, not knowing whether or not to go on with his report.
“Spill it. I didn’t employ a weakling as my assistant,” Bryan urged, and Perez let out a sigh.
“It’s the news about you and Miss Lily,” he reported.
“What about it?”
“Well, we’ve tried to take it down, but it keeps getting pushed up, and your father called to know the details; he asked that you bring her home,” Perez reported.
Bryan downed the remaining content in his wine glass, poured himself another one, and looked out the window with a complicated expression.
“There’s no need to take down the post; if possible, push it up as much as possible,” he instructed with a mischievous grin. “Have the legal team prepare to sue all the accounts slandering her; as for the rest, leave it to the Watson boy to take care of; he is the boyfriend after all.”
“If he can’t handle such a small mess, he does not deserve her.”
