My eyes widened when they fell on Ethan and they widened in shock.

Ethan was actually here. Inside this house with us. Standing a few meters away from me in the supposed safe place.

And it didn't look like he made an effort to get into here.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, staring at him consciously.

"Well, that's quite the welcome," he said, his lips pulled into a mocking smile.

I stumbled back, my chest heaving. "Stay away from me!"

I can't explain it, but this Ethan felt different from the first one. Something about him sent shivers down my spine.

He tilted his head, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "You don't mean that, do you? After everything we've been through?"

Everything we've been through my ass. It was just him terrorizing me in the name of a relationship.

My grip on the knife tightened. "Don't come any closer."

Where was Silas? Where were his men? This was the part where they were needed, but you

wouldn't

see them.

Ethan's eyes flickered to the knife in my hands and he threw his head back and laughed. "What are you going to do, Katrina? Stab me?"

Well, yes? Wouldn't be the first time I'd be doing that.

But I didn't answer. My hands shook so badly that the knife felt like it would slip at any moment, but I refused to drop it.

Ethan took another step forward, "You know, I was just going to leave you a little reminder tonight. Something to keep you on your toes. But now that you're here..."

He trailed off, his gaze sliding over me in a way that made my skin crawl.

"I think I'll stay a while."

Before I could react, someone spoke from behind me, filling me with relief.

"Not another step, Ethan."

I didn't need to turn around to know that it was Silas.

I turned my head to see him standing at the top of the stairs, his expression as cold and deadly as I'd ever seen. Silas was angry, really angry. Not the type of anger where you throw things into the wall and destroy stuff, but the mind where you have total control over your anger and you choose to use it as a weapon.

The kind that makes you powerful.

And I couldn't help but say that it made him look ten times hotter.

Even at the point where I was, I knew that I wouldn't mind him bending me over right now.

Well not while the dead man was watching though, that would just be weird.

My eyes shifted to the gun which was in his hand, pointed directly at Ethan.

"Take a step forward and I'd shoot. Take a step backward and your head gets blown off. Move a single muscle and you'd regret it, Silas threatened and my grip on the knife lessened.

I was upset that he got here a bit late, but at least he got here on me.

Ethan's smirk faltered, but only slightly. "Took you long enough he said, his tone still smug.

Silas didn't reply. His eyes flicked between me and Ethan, assessing the situation. He roamed over my body and I nodded my head at him, in an attempt to tell him that I was alright, "Get back to your room, Katrina," Silas ordered, and my

mouth opened.

I couldn't go back there when I knew how easy it was for someone to drop off something.

I hesitated, my legs frozen in place. "But-"

"Now," he barked, his gaze never leaving Ethan.

"Aw, come on Silas. We're only just getting started, Why chasing her off so soon?" Ethan mocked, his tone dripping with what seemed to be sarcasm.

To be honest, between you and I? I'd rather stay in this room than go back in there.

At least now I'm certain I'd be safe with Silas.

"You don't want her to know how I got into her room? Or how she killed me but I'm still here."

My eyes flickered between Ethan and Silas and I hesitated. I mean, I had to hear this.

"You had a doppelganger step in for you, what other explanation is there? You can't possibly say you rose from the bread, can you?" Silas asked, staring down at Ethan with a blank look on his face.

For a moment, I was tempted to snap my fingers and talk about how right I was, but I figured this wasn't the right time for me to do it.

"What I don't get is how you hired a doppelganger for your wedding. So was it you who got married to her? Or him?" I asked, waiting for an answer to that. Ethan's eyes flickered at me, and the smile on his lips widened.

"Oh, the wedding vows were said by me. But somewhere between the church and the hall, I got an intel that Silas wanted my life. So I had to change," Does he have an intel? But it was basically just two people that knew about this. Silas and Phillip. Well, if you include me then it's three.

And there's no way Silas is going to be the mole in his own Mafia? So Phillip?

To be honest, I wouldn't even be surprised if Phillip ended up being it.

"I've been ignoring them for a while now and they thought they could do whatever it was that they wanted?"

So he knew about the mole and was just turning a blind eye to it. And now this happened.

"Katrina, go to your room," Silas called out, jolting me into action.

My legs moved on their own, carrying me back up the stairs. My hand tightened on the railing as passed Silas, feeling less

frightened than I did when ran down.

"I'd finish up here. Just wait for me," Silas said and I nodded.

I heard him cock his gun, but I don't turn around, keeping my eyes in front of me.

But before I could get far, Ethan's voice stopped me in my track

"She's braver than you give her credit for, Silas," he drawled, his one mocking. "A little bird with claws. Isn't that right, Katrina?"

My heart thumped in my chest, but I didn't turn around.

"Katrina?" Silas drawled and I forced myself to keep walking. I didn't get far when the sound of a gunshot startled me, and I gasped stopping in my tracks. Did Silas...kill him?

I guess it was foolish to come here in the middle of the day and not expect something terrible to happen to you.

I had just pushed open my room door when I stopped in my tracks. Something doesn't feel right.

The hairs on my neck had pricked up and my body was covered in goosebumps.

I need to get out of here.

immediately spun on my heels, prepared to dash out when I came in contact with a hard wall. ""Hello, Katrina,"

A sack was pulled over my head immediately, something hard connecting with the back of my head. Well fuck.

I didn't even fight it, I just gave into the darkness, my legs crumbling beneath me.
