The Invincible Arthur Gardner

Chapter 64 - Counting Down to Zero

Chapter 64 - Counting Down to Zero

The results of the first round of the car race ended in a crushing defeat on Arthur's side. Beta really

couldn't keep up with the racer skills that had been prepared by Marco, and from this result, Arthur

ended up one point behind.

Arthur then strolled towards Beta, who had stepped out of the car with a despondent expression. His

face was etched with disappointment. Despite having put in his best effort, he had still come up short.

"Your opponent is no ordinary person, you put up an admirable fight," Arthur said reassuringly.

"Boss, I apologize for disappointing you," Beta said.

"No, no worries," Arthur replied serenely, and then he faced Marco and Adam, who were striding

towards him.

"Arthur...Arthur...," Marco jeered, clapping his hands in satisfaction. "It turns out that you were really

naive, foolishly betting against me without knowing how prepared and experienced I was!" Marco burst

out laughing as his plan proved successful.

Marco was elated, feeling that another victory was within his grasp. With the upcoming car race in the

second round, he was certain that he would win, as he knew that Arthur merely had his bodyguards

who were large in stature but lacked any real intelligence to compete against him.

Furthermore, even if Marco were to lose, he had already lined up the best racer in town to challenge

Arthur in the third round. He could almost taste his victory.

Adam, Marco's father, slowly walked towards Arthur and Edna, crossed his arms, and then slowly

shook his head as if unable to bear the foolishness of the person before him.

"You are not only young and inexperienced, but also rash and foolish," he said, his voice full of

disappointment. "It is a shame that such a refined girl has to be standing next to you."

"She'll leave him once she finds out how poor he is," Marco supplemented his father's statement.

Edna, who had been listening to their words, quickly approached Arthur and wrapped her arm around

his right arm. "I don't think my boss, Arthur, is as meek as you're making him out to be," she said.

"He's just trying to stay humble by not retaliating to your teasing. And you should expect a payback

later when you're truly humiliated for your arrogance."

Edna, who had been silent until that point, was deeply hurt by their continued low remarks toward

Arthur. If necessary, she was prepared to stand up to them and even speak harshly.

Adam glared angrily at the two people in front of him, then spat to the side. He then turned to Marco,

his expression full of determination. "Hurry up and finish this stupid race, Marco. Teach this trash a

lesson that he'll carry to his grave!"

"Don't worry, Dad," Marco replied confidently. "That's exactly what I'm doing right now."

Adam was infuriated by Arthur's behavior. For some reason, he could make a woman as beautiful and

as perfect as Edna do that to him. He was certain that Edna was just a paid companion, asked to

attend this event merely for show.

"Hey you," Adam said to Edna. "I'll pay you double what this trash is offering, so leave him and come

with us right now."

At his words, Arthur quickly stepped forward and grabbed Adam's shirt collar, lifting him up on his

tiptoes and looking into his eyes. "You can insult me all you want, but don't say anything that would

insult Edna in my presence," he said firmly.

"Hey, you!" Marco yelled angrily at Arthur, his eyes flashing with indignation at his father's treatment.

He attempted to lunge forward, but Arthur's bodyguard stepped in, blocking his path. "Move aside, you

moron!" he snarled.

Arthur said very firmly, his tone reminiscent of his father's when he was alive, which made Adam feel

uncomfortable.

"You're just like your father, dirty mouth and selfless." Adam said.

Arthur released his grip on Adam's shirt collar and added, "Get away from me before I get really angry.

Let's finish this car race and I will accept another challenge from you if you are still not satisfied."

Adam seethed with anger upon seeing the presence of Arthur's bodyguards. Had he been aware of the

bodyguards, he would have come prepared with more of his own.

"What an ass!" he snarled before turning away and heading back to his wife. "Just wait until next time,

you jerk!" he shouted over his shoulder.

"Ch!" Marco shot Arthur a disgusted glance.

"I bet you're dreaming if you think this silly bodyguard can beat me in a car race!" He continued,

striding confidently onto the track as the two cars were already revving up for the next round of racing.

Echo, the one who was to compete in the second round of the car race on Arthur's side, was a former

wild racer, now a bodyguard. Standing tall and straight with a stern face, he appeared almost as tall as

Arthur, his body not as large, but his dry muscles exuded strength.

"Boss," he said, his voice firm and unwavering, "do I need to run over that guy and make him crash on

this track?"

Arthur shook his head. "I don't want us to go to the police just yet. I've got other plans for Marco, and I

want to be the one to embarrass him. All you need to do is make sure you can beat him in the race."

Echo nodded firmly. "I won't let you down, Boss. I'll do this with my life." He then strode towards his

racing car.

Alpha, standing beside Arthur, remarked, "Echo is really dependable, Boss. He's often given dangerous

assignments from Aston, thanks to his driving skills. He's not just a good racer, but also courageous."

Arthur slowly nodded in agreement with Alpha's assessment. Arthur was convinced that Echo would

win the race, as it was obvious that Marco was simply a wealthy individual who drove solely to impress,

not because of any real talent.

The countdown began, and the two cars tore off with a loud boom, tires squealing against the asphalt.

Marco's car had remarkable pick-up, and it quickly pulled ahead of Echo's, but at each corner, Echo's

car proved to be exceptionally balanced and skillfully maneuvered.

After three laps, Echo had managed to outpace Marco and soon left him in the dust. Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

A few moments later, the race concluded with Echo's overwhelming victory.
