Chapter 390 Mr. Collins Is Dead
Three years ago, Boris, with great foresight for the long-term development of Lewis Company, founded Tomorrow Building Materials Company.
The real estate sector, buoyed by government support, had witnessed vigorous growth, leading to the prosperity of various industries.
Among them, the building materials industry, just like real estate, stood out as the most profitable sector.
For over a decade, Wade and his group of friends had dominated the building materials industry in Japera City.
When Boris started his own building materials company, he had no intention of replacing Wade. He simply wanted a share of the pie.
However, Wade, in collusion with the Arte family, betrayed Boris behind his back, and that was something Boris couldn’t tolerate.
And even more unbearable were Wade’s audacious thoughts about Ziana.
Wade had crossed the line, and Boris wouldn’t stand for it.
“Nothing major,” Boris responded with little emotional fluctuation to Biber’s flattery, “As you know, my energy is limited, but the conglomerate spans various industries. I can’t handle the workload of Tomorrow Building Materials Company alone, so I’ll entrust it to you when you return.”
Although Boris mentioned entrusting the responsibility to Biber, in reality, Tomorrow Building Materials Company already had a professional manager.
Biber’s role was to grasp the overall direction and responsibility for it.
“I’m also getting overwhelmed!” Biber chuckled bitterly. “You seem to squeeze the life out of me as long as I’m not dead!”
Biber’s actual profession was a psychotherapist, with a nominal position within the conglomerate. He also occasionally served as Boris’ personal assistant and private detective.
Biber rose early and slept late, becoming increasingly overwhelmed day by day, with no time to catch his breath.
Boris sensed the bitterness in Biber’s words and remarked, “Those who are capable should bear the burden, but if only Steven could be more responsible, you wouldn’t have to work so hard.”
“Boris?” Steven had been listening to their phone conversation with a grin on his face, but when he was mentioned by name, he pouted. “I’m being responsible now! I’ve got Sean firmly in my grip, and he’s messaging me right at this moment!”
Boris waved his hand, signaling Steven to continue communicating with Sean, and then he inquired about Biber’s progress, “How’s the investigation going?”
Biber had arrived in Galia five days ago.
“That’s the purpose of my call to you.” Biber’s voice became serious. “I’m currently in Galia’s Canrro, the first place Princess Lia and Edison stayed in. In these past few days, I’ve visited about sixty to seventy percent of the bars and nightclubs, but I haven’t found any clues about Princess Lia.”
Boris furrowed his brow. “None at all? No leads?”
“No, not a single person who knows her.” Biber had Princess Lia’s photo on hand, sent by Wesbruck Princess Catherine, but even with the photo, nobody recognized her.
He explained, “The political situation in Galia is unstable, with a change of ruling party every three to five years. With the ongoing conflict, these bars and nightclubs were established in recent years, so it’s understandable that they don’t know Princess Lia.”
Boris sighed helplessly. “Continue the investigation. I must uncover the truth about the kidnapping case five years ago.
“But there’s an unexpected discovery,” Biber paused and added, “although it may not be good news for you.” © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
“Go on.”
“Some people know Mr. Collins, but he told me…” Biber’s voice grew heavy. “Mr. Collins is dead.”
Boris was taken aback, and his breath became slightly labored. “He’s dead? Is the news reliable?”
“Mr. Collins was a somewhat influential figure in the underground circles of Galia. Over a year ago, during a power struggle within the Galia underground, various leaders, big and small, led their gangs in a fierce battle for supremacy. It is said that Mr. Collins met his demise during that time.”
“How did he die?” Boris sensed that something was off.
“He was shot,” Biber replied.
Boris pondered for a moment before speaking, “Understood. Continue investigating
Princess Lia and gather more information about Mr. Collins.”
After the conversation, the two hung up.
Steven was waiting and approached as soon as he saw Boris end the call. “Boris, Sean asked me if we secured the investment. How should I respond?”
Boris snapped out of his thoughts and let out a faint sound. “He’s getting impatient now.”
“Yeah! He’s been talking to me about the game and how promising its future is,” Steven, a lively character, couldn’t help but remark, “The implication is clear, right? The game will make money, and he wants to be successful. He wants me to hurry up and get the game going, doesn’t he?”
Boris unexpectedly glanced at him. “Impressively perceptive.”
Steven proudly lifted his chin. “Boris, I may not be as brilliant as you, but I’m not brainless either. I hope you know that.”
Boris smiled and replied, “The Arte family suffered losses of at least millions due to
Wade. They are in a rush to recover their losses. Anthony probably wants the Lewis family to collapse, so they can swallow them up. He and Darlene are pressuring Sean. Can he afford not to be in a hurry?”
“So, should we agree to his request?”
“Let’s keep him waiting a couple more days and toy with him.”
“Alright.”
After Steven got Boris’ instructions, he replied to Sean.
Steven the Destroyer: [I’m anxious too, but Boris’ heart is currently focused on Vivi. As you know, Vivi has been feeling down for over ten days since her disfigurement. Boris’ mind is preoccupied with her, and he has no other thoughts at the moment.]
Upon receiving Steven’s response, Sean stomped his foot in frustration.
Damn Vivi, was her disfigurement such a big deal?
She was supposed to persuade Boris to invest, but not only did she fail to do so, influenced Boris’ consideration of the game plan.
Darlene was now putting pressure on him to quickly acquire the Lewis family.
Vivi was nothing but a liability, causing more trouble than good.
He gritted his teeth and replied to Steven with beautifully phrased words, and then sent a message to Vivi, scolding and pressuring her to persuade Boris.
However, Vivi, in her state of despair, no longer looked in the mirror, avoided contact with the outside world, and stopped using her phone.
Sean’s message was like a stone sinking into the ocean, receiving no response.
And so, two more days passed.
Sean messaged Steven again, inquiring if the investment had been finalized.
SY: [Here’s the thing. If you start this game project soon, I can still help you. But if it’s another month from now, I’m afraid I won’t be in the country anymore.]
Steven forwarded the message he received from Sean, exactly as it was, to Boris.
As soon as Boris finished reading it, he received a phone call.
“Boris, Sean has come to press us again. He’s truly desperate, resorting to veiled threats.”
“Agree with him. Tell him we’ve decided to invest.” Boris tapped the table with his hand. “Invite him for a meal. Come up with a reason yourself. I want to see who he really is.”
Steven readily agreed. “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of this minor matter.”
That evening, at 7 o’clock, outside Lius Restaurant, a Rolls-Royce slowly pulled over.
Steven stepped out first, followed closely by a man dressed in a well-tailored black suit, striding out of the car with long legs.
“Boris, Mr. Yates has arrived.”
After the two of them were escorted inside by the staff, a Ferrari roared to a stop right at the main entrance.
A server respectfully approached and helped open the car door. “Miss Scott, welcome to our establishment.”
