Blood gushed as Geon's head landed on his desk, his eyes wide in a peaceless death!

"What?! He's dead?!"

Frank's heart skipped a beat at the sight, not quite believing what he was seeing.

After all, he had seen many guards in the residence on the way in, with many of them being elite forces under Hans Schnee's command.

So how was Geon killed, and it had to be now of all times?

Frank turned back toward the body and saw the handle of an exquisitely crafted dagger sticking out of the back.

And it was a dagger he was very familiar with.

"Stanley!" he exclaimed as he realized with a start, as he took the dagger given to him by Stanley Durban as a token.

They were identical!

"How did this happen?! Was Stanley the one who set this stage?"

Frank's mind was working rapidly, but the puzzle pieces were incomplete he only had a hunch Stanley was involved, but not how he did it without alerting any of the guards, including Hans' elite forces.

What's more, why would Stanley want to frame him? Could he be allies with the Lionhearts?

But Geon had aligned himself with the Lionhearts too... Unless they had sent Stanley to kill Geon, so that he would not talk?

Nheless, Frank walked up, touching and inspecting Geon's body.

It was still warm-he must have died within the hour. In addition, he was decapitated with the dagger on his back and slowly, leading to jagged gaps. Before Frank shook the body, there was just a small piece of skin holding head to neck.

Frank then looked around and found some ash beneath the table.

Picking it up and sniffing it, his eyes. narrowed. "Drifter's Sweet. Common enough on the black market and capable of knocking out a person."

BUMS

Frank then rose to his feet and pieced together what had happened.

Someone must have knocked out

Geon with the Drifter's Sweet and then cut off his head before

stabbing the dagger on his back.

However, they would have killed him after decapitating him... so why plunge the dagger into him?

"Wait..." Frank murmured. "Could they be out to frame me?!"

Even as Frank realized with a start, the door suddenly opened.

Captain Podrick Daffey, who always had a poker face, entered just then. "Mr. Commissioner, you have a visitor—"

Before he finished, his eyes widened when he saw Geon's decapitated body.

Then, he turned and saw Frank, who was still holding the dagger identical to the one in Geon's back.

Realizing with a start, Podrick bellowed, "What... How dare you, Frank Lawrence! Y-You killed the commissioner!"

And before Frank could speak, Podrick was running outside and yelling, "Guards! The commissioner has just been assassinated!"

"What?!"

All the guards around the residence. were left stunned for a moment but soon rushed toward Geon's study at the next instant, leaving it congested.

"Calm down—just listen to me!"

lov

Frank tried to explain as the guards encircled him, "I didn't kill him. He was already dead when I came in!"
