Chapter 161 Touched

In this world, there are people who will hate you for no reason, but there are also those who will stand by your side without any reason at all.

Steve was still wearing his white coat and seemed a bit out of breath.

"Dr. Pearson... why did you come?" Ranita felt both touched and guilty.

"I was just a little worried about you so I came to check on you." Steve paused for a moment before smiling. "Don't worry about it."

Ranita nodded and stepped aside to let him in.

"Please have a seat while show me your legs." Steve examined her legs for a moment before asking some questions. "During mid-pregnancy, the fetus requires more nutrients which can lead to cramping."

"Oh? But isn't mid-pregnancy still far away?"

Steve's tone softened as he explained further. "It's hard to say for sure! Also if your legs get too cold it can cause cramping."

"Just go home and take some calcium supplements," he advised seriously with just the right tone of voice - not too loud or soft-spoken either way.

Ranita nodded gratefully. "Thank you Dr. Pearson. I applied heat earlier which helped quite a bit!"

But in reality her leg still hurt quite badly; she just couldn't bring herself to complain around Steve like she would with others.

Steve looked around then lowered his gaze slightly as he spoke again, "You're all alone here without anyone taking care of you... why don't you go back home?" Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.

Ranita had planned on resting here for two days but Brendon had ruined that plan with his unexpected visit; coupled with this sudden cramp she really wasn't in much mood anymore...

However she didn't want to return home either...

"I..." Ranita hesitated briefly before speaking up again, "Dr. Pearson... I don't really feel like going back home right now..."

Her long eyelashes fluttered lightly as she spoke calmly yet unhappily at the same time...

Steve thought carefully then asked, "Did something happen? Did something happen after reading that news?"

As friends they couldn't talk behind Brendon's back directly since relationships were always complicated matters…

"Yeah…I saw it…"

"Shannon has always been following Brendon around since childhood…she's sweet-natured so everyone likes spoiling her." After pausing briefly, Steve chuckled softly then pushed up his glasses nervously, "Of course I'm not saying that because Shannon is my friend."

"I know…" Ranita pursed her lips tightly together…

"Dr. Pearson, let's not talk about this anymore. You must be tired from coming all the way here. Why don't you rest for a bit?" Ranita's leg was hurting and she almost lost her balance when Steve helped her up. "Be careful! I live next door, so if you need anything just give me a call."

"You should rest," Steve said before leaving and handing her a hot compress that he claimed was a new hospital product that self-heated and was very convenient.

Ranita thought Steve was really nice. At first glance, he seemed cold but as they spent more time together she discovered his gentle side.

He was gentler than Brendon and more sensible than Dylan.

"Thank you, Dr. Pearson."

"You're my patient and I'm your doctor; taking care of patients is my responsibility so don't be too polite with me." Although Steve said this, doctors are also human beings who can't always be angels - it was just an excuse for him to say that.

Ranita accepted his kindness but insisted on seeing him out.

"Anyway, thank you very much Dr. Pearson... rest well tonight! If you haven't left tomorrow then let me treat you to dinner."

"Sure thing! I'll go rest now; if there's anything just give me a call - I'm faster than 911!"

At the intersection not far away from them, a black Bentley disappeared into the night while a man leaned against his seat with bloodshot eyes staring at Ranita and Steve under the streetlight - there was an enormous rock in his heart.
