The Divorced Heiress’s Revenge

Chapter 1958

Bella froze. She slowly turned and met the man's dark eyes as her heart thudded heavily inside her chest.

Justin clenched his fists beside him, and Bella could feel the tension radiating off him.

"Oh... Justin."

Grant cleared his throat to explain himself, as if they were guilty of hiding something from him. "Don't overthink this. I just came across Ms. Thompson at the hospital entrance. I wasn't feeling well, and I asked her to help me upstairs."

"Dear brother, pray tell, what could I be overthinking?"

Justin's lips curled in an attempt to smile. However, it came across as a grimace. "You're my big brother, and Bella is your sister-in-law. We're family. She was only doing her sisterly duty."

As he said this, he strode over to Bella and gently took over the wheelchair handles. "Let me take care of this."

"Thank you, Justin," Grant said with a tight smile.

Justin bent down and whispered into his ear, "You're my big brother. It's the least I can do."

Outside the ward, Gregory was anxiously discussing Carrie's condition with the attending physician.

"Dad!" Grant called out. He was stuck in his wheelchair but desperately wished he could get up and walk over to his father.

"Grant! You know you're not well. Why did you come here so late at night?" Gregory looked at his son's pallid face and felt moved by his efforts.

"I was worried about Carrie, so I came to check on her. I happened to run into Justin and Ms. Thompson downstairs, so we came up together."Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

Grant furrowed his eyebrows. "Dad, how is Carrie?"

Bella stood nearby, her face wrought with tension, as Justin gripped her clammy hands.

"Fortunately, Ryan is here. He's already inside with your sister. But we can't carry on like this. Carrie was already depressed. After receiving such a big shock, I'm afraid she might end up having a mental breakdown!" Gregory sighed helplessly.

Justin shared his father's distress. After careful consideration, he suggested. "In the worst-case scenario, we'll have to resort to electroshock therapy."

Gregory and Paul looked at each other in confusion. "Electroshock therapy?"

วน:

"It's a treatment used to treat some mental illnesses by administering safe doses of electric currents to the patient. When I served in the peacekeeping forces, many soldiers suffered ed severe mental trauma. They developed PTSD and couldn't live normally after discharge. Many had to resort to this method."

Bella's heart clenched at the thought as she watched Justin's profile.

"Will there be any lingering side effects?" Gregory questioned.

"Initially, dizziness and nausea will be expected, but as time passes, she will lose some triggering memories. It may also lead to some memory retention difficulty in the future," Justin answered bluntly.

"I don't recommend this method," Grant countered, frowning and shaking his head. "Is erasing memories the only way to treat her? Is killing one's past self the only solution?"

Bella stared at him in shock. She never expected this man to have such empathy.

The air suddenly grew tense. The two brothers locked eyes, as if two invisible forces were clashing.

Grant continued, "I have personally

one can t

undergone electroshock therapy in the past, time and time again. No &nderstand the feeling of having your soul ripped from your body better than I do. It's just one pain masking another."

Grant's expression turned somber. "This method doesn't address the root cause. This Yasmin girl was clearly very important to Carrie. Even if she is made to forget temporarily, once she comes across anything related to that girl, her memories will return, as will her condition. What

then? Use electroshock therapy

again to force her to forget? To what

end?"

Gregory's eyes watered at this confession. “Grant, I had no idea you suffered so much back then.”

Justin pressed his lips together, feeling like he had just swallowed a rock.

The kidnapping incident had left a significant shadow on Grant, psychologically. He believed this had been the only option to get Grant through those dark days.

"Dad, it's all in the past. It doesn't matter now. I only said all that because I don't want Carrie to suffer like I did." Grant forced a smile and released a breath.

"Mr. Grant, do you have a better solution?" Bella asked seriously.

Grant looked at her with gentle sincerity. "Medication."

Justin did not miss this look between them.
