Chapter 1845
Chapter 1845
Carrie came to see Ryan alone.
She was still wearing the white plush loungewear she often wore at the Willow Creek Villa. Her cute and playful appearance made the corners of Ryan's pale lips curl upward uncontrollably.Property © 2024 N0(v)elDrama.Org.
As he smiled, a tear slipped from the corner of his eye.
When their eyes met, an endless tide of emotions surged and swelled in their pounding hearts.
The man before her, her beloved Ryan, had become so thin that she almost did not recognize him. She fought to suppress her heartache. Her lips were tightly pressed together, and she dared not utter a word. She was afraid that she would start crying if she spoke.
If she cried, all her resolve would crumble.
Ryan's steps were heavy as he walked up to his beloved, his eyes red-rimmed as he pulled her into a tight embrace.
Tears streamed down Carrie's face instantly. However, she could only cry silently, not daring to make a sound or respond to his embrace.
But still, her erratic breathing and uncontrollable heartbeat betrayed her emotions completely.
There were three things a person could not hide-a cough, poverty, and love.
Ryan had held back many words along the way.
He wanted to ask her why she was marrying Jason Solloway.
But in the end, he could not help but say, "Why are you wearing so little? What if you catch a cold?"
Carrie rested her forehead against his chest and gently shook her head.
Yasmin and Dean turned their eyes away, unable to bear the sight. Their hearts ached for the star-crossed lovers.
After a while, Ryan's cold lips brushed against Carrie's reddened ear, murmuring a plea, "Carrie... Please don't marry someone else... Please just come home with me."
The person in his arms remained silent. Only her warm tears soaked his heaving chest.
After a moment, Carrie bit down hard. She pushed him away with all her strength.
"Ryan, please take good care of yourself and stay healthy... Don't come looking for me anymore." Ryan.
It had been long since he heard her calling his name.
Yet, it now felt distant. It was devoid of the deep affection and sweetness it once held.
As Carrie turned to leave, all of Ryan's restraint crumbled. He grabbed her arm, his fingers clenching so tightly that they seemed about to crush her delicate bones.
"Carrie, how can you do this to me? How can you be so cruel to me... Why don't you just kill me instead?!"
"Mr. Hoffman! Please calm down!" Yasmin and Dean were alarmed, fearing Ryan might unintentionally
hurt Carrie.
Ryan's eyes brimmed with shattered tears. "Didn't you say you loved me? Didn't you say you'd only be
mine?! How could you go back on your word... How could you?!"
His desperate and hysterical plea even carried a hint of savage bitterness.
"A marriage without the blessing of one's family will never be a happy one."
Carrie endured the pain as she spoke the words that deceived both Ryan and herself.
"I'm very weak and timid. I'm also afraid that those around me will get hurt or put in difficult situations because of me. I'm just an ordinary person, unable to handle great obstacles. I just want a simple life. Even if I have to live without love, as long as it's a peaceful life, it's enough for me. Ryan, it hurts at first, but it'll get better over time. I've come to terms with it, and you will too, eventually."
Yasmin was stunned.
She finally understood what it meant to say the harshest things in the gentlest tone.
However, after dealing with Liam tonight, Yasmin also hesitated.
As long as Liam was alive, he would surely seek revenge.
If Ryan and Carrie reconciled, Carrie would immediately become Liam's target. Who knew what cruel tricks he would use against this poor girl?
In truth, the best course of action was for Ryan and Carrie to maintain some distance. Once they eliminated all the threats, Ryan could then marry Carrie.
But who would have predicted the sudden interference from the Solloways? What if it took too long, and Carrie ended up marrying Jason Solloway for real?
