Rita turned to look at him with a pleasant smile, but her expression faltered when Sherman's phone rang, She caught sight of the caller ID displaying her father's name. "Why is he calling you again?"

"If even you don't know, how would I know? Perhaps you should go back and ask your father what he's done to drive his company to this state of ruin." Sherman's tone dripped with disdain.

"Don't answer his calls anymore. He's probably asking you for money again. I'll talk to him when I get back. Things weren't this bad before. How could be recklessly squander everything when he has a baby boy coming?"

Sherman's expression grew darker with each word Rita spoke. He could guess exactly what Vince was doing-Vince was treating him like a free ATM. After all, even Rita could guess it. He could tolerate it once for Rita's sake, but he would not tolerate anyone continuously draining him.

The interruption from her father made Rita no longer want to ask Sherman anything else. She even felt too ashamed to speak in front of him.

"Whatever amount he's taken from you, just add it to my account. I'll repay you."

Sherman chuckled softly. "Are you sure you can repay me?"

Rita smiled bitterly. His words might be harsh, but they were true. Rita knew she owed his family a debt she could not possibly repay. It was only thanks to Sherman and his family's kindness that they did not pursue it further.

To make matters worse, she always felt a sense of guilt for being perceived as his wife by his family.

"You're right, I owe you more than I can repay. And if I had the choice, I wouldn't want to be born into a family like mine," said Rita.

Given a choice, she would rather be a child from an ordinary family than be burdened by a father like hers. As she was driven back home, Rita realized just how much she had grown to detest her family. She had never entertained such rebellious thoughts before.

'How could I have such disdain for Dad when he's worked so hard to raise me? Isn't this my duty as a daughter to bear his debts? But he's becoming increasingly greedy. Does the family really need so much money?' thought Rita.

She was sure that a large portion of the funds were being used for his unborn son. Vince was just too audacious; he treated Sherman as if he were a brainless bank! He did not even consider Parr Group, something Sherman had built through his own hard work, was completely unrelated to him.

"Who knows when Dad will wake up and stop doing shameless things like this? It's probably better for me to earn more money and repay as much as I can."

As Rita muttered to herself, she flipped through Esmond's files. She had almost completed her investigation into his background, and his activities over the years had become clearer to her.

He would have been considered quite a character if he was not a thug. After experiencing significant life changes, the few key decisions he made brought him considerable wealth, which was why so many people were willing to work for him.

'But I wonder whether he knows Sadie is his daughter,' thought Rita.
