Most of them were in their middle age, with elderly parents and young children to support. They simply could not afford to abandon everything for the sake of fairness. Thus, when facing reality, these reporters could only selectively forget their primary responsibilities.
"Well done, all of you," said Lenny sarcastically. "Have any of you seen this article?"
On the big screen, the article in question was projected-it was obviously the one that had falsely accused Rita. However, the ambiguous photo and the names of the individuals involved were blurred out.
Rita clenched her hands together.
She understood that Lenny was protecting her privacy, and she was grateful for it. The article caused a stir among them, and some were already whispering and discussing it.
Articles of this quality would never appear in New Capital Times, let alone such ambiguous wording, which was not appropriate for a proper reporter.
"Boss, did you make a mistake with the article? What's there to learn from this? Isn't this the typical tone used by paparazzi?" someone asked.
Lenny shook his head. "Indeed, this isn't the kind of content you should be learning from. But I am curious about something-just how deep is the grudge between the author of the article and you, Rita, to portray you in such a vulgar manner?
"Chase, you seem to have a good understanding of managing juniors. Why don't you share your thoughts?
Chase's goosebumps rose. He had not expected Lenny to project the article onto the big screen for everyone to see, much less pointedly asking him such a question. It was like Lenny was openly telling them that Chase was the one who wrote it.
"Sir, I..."
"What? Do you think there's anything commendable about this article?"
Chase shook his head. "There's nothing commendable about such an article. You should avoid reading this kind of content in the future."
"Heh," Lenny sneered. "Since there's nothing commendable about it, why did you write it? And to smear your own colleague.... Is that what a reporter should do?"
Rita's heart raced. She had not expected Lenny to bring this up separately and speak up for her in front of everyone.
Moreover, the newspaper the article was published in was very obscure. It should not even have appeared on Lenny's desk if he had not deliberately paid attention to it. This just showed that as the department head, he had been caring for his subordinates all along.
Rita was deeply touched.
"What's going on? Why would Chase write something like this?" asked a colleague.
"No wonder he never has time to write proper articles. He spends all his time on this trashy stuff. Poor him for having to use such ambiguous wording to craft gossip articles that others love to read," remarked another colleague sarcastically.
Female colleagues were extremely disgusted. "Ugh, how disgusting. Instead of targeting the perpetrator, he's targeting the victim! Is this what male reporters do?"
The female colleagues' reactions were generally stronger than male colleagues', especially since any one of them could be the next target for Chase's articles.
The male reporters also shook their heads in disapproval of his actions. It was bad enough that he neglected his main job, but turning around and writing such things was a disgrace to New Capital Times.
What Chase did was very wrong. Even if he had a grudge against Rita, he should not have resorted to such low tactics to smear her.
"It seems everyone disagrees with your actions, Chase. Why don't you explain to us what you were thinking when you wrote this article?"
