Chapter 357
Chapter 357
Cityscape Plaza.
Marian warmly welcomed Cordelia and Brooklyn. As expected, Cordelia wasn't wearing her pearl
necklace today. Marian didn't ask about it. They chatted as they walked.
“See that guy over there? That's the CEO of Allure Artists, and next to him is his wife. She's a real
powerhouse, a real estate tycoon, and a Cambridge PhD fellow. And over there is the head of
TrueNorth Enterprises. She's even more impressive, a Harvard whiz, doesn't rely on any man, and is
completely focused on her career. And there's the head of Radiance Productions. His wife doesn't
work, but all his money goes straight to her. She's a doctor of economics, and there's no fooling her
when it comes to money. Impressive, right?” Marian pointedly said to Cordelia.
Cordelia was beginning to understand why Marian had invited her today. Marian had one way of
mocking Cordelia, which was belittling her bachelor's degree, as always.
Cordelia merely smiled as if unaffected.
“By the way, you know about Grant, right? His wife cheated on him and even tried to kill him, but she
got off easy because she was pregnant.”
Cordelia knew about this, and she nodded.
“His wife barely finished high school. She was a real small-timer,” Marian said disdainfully.
“Looks like we're out of our depth here. We really shouldn't be at a gathering like this. We’re nothing Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
compared to these people.” Brooklyn understood Marian's intent to mock her and Cordelia's education.
“What do you mean?” Marian feigned ignorance. “You two? What does this have to do with you?” She
acted as if she'd said nothing offensive.
Cordelia squeezed Brooklyn's hand, indicating that there was no need to respond to such words.
Marian's family owned a production company, and she was a natural-born actress. She adopted an “I'm
just stating facts” expression. Then, she pretended to have a sudden realization. “Oh, I see, you're
talking about yourselves. Well, Cordelia is Mr. Evans' lady, and she's quite formidable.”
The hidden message was clear. A man of Mr. Evans' stature was backed by a mediocre woman with a
bachelor's degree, just waiting to be looked down upon.
Brooklyn wanted to explore potential collaborations for TV series and games to help Edwin, but seeing
Marian's petty behavior, she lost all interest.
As they left the gathering, Cordelia seemed deep in thought. “Brooklyn, I've been thinking about getting
a master's degree in the States. I've always wanted to, but I'm afraid Ronan won't agree,” Cordelia
said.
Having experienced the disadvantages of achieving only a lower education level, Brooklyn could relate
to Cordelia. “I think you should go for it if you have the chance. We're only in our twenties, we have a
long road ahead, and there's no guarantee that Mr. Evans will always be there.” Brooklyn seemed a bit
discouraged. “You initially went abroad to further your studies, but it got delayed because of the child.”
“I have nothing holding me back now, but I'm scared Ronan won't let me go. I don't even have the
courage to ask.”
“I can't help you make this decision. You'll have to think about it.” The two strolled along the street.
“Although Marian had ill intentions, she does have a point.”
Cordelia was well aware.
At that moment, a luxury van pulled up beside them. A man stepped out and approached Cordelia and
Brooklyn. Neither of them recognized the man, and his gangster-like demeanor startled them.
