Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Leopold instantly composed himself, realizing the lapse in his typically cool demeanor.
“Lying is a sin, remember that.”
“I didn’t lie, I swear.”
She tried to explain, but Leopold had already turned and walked away.
He didn’t believe a word she said. He thought she was just a cunning girl, covering her true intentions!
They went to the hospital, for a blood panel and then an ultrasound.
The three–month–old fetus was already formed. They could see its head, body, tiny hands and feet on
the ultrasound monitor.
“Everything is normal with the baby, very healthy.” The doctor said with a smile.
Leopold’s icy black eyes twinkled, as if a layer of frost was melting away.
Aurelia glanced at him and quickly turned her head away.
She was afraid that if she looked too long, she would become too attached and unable to part with
them.
Leaving the hospital and getting into the car, she couldn’t resist sneaking another look at the
ultrasound picture in Leopold’s hand.
“Mr. Leopold, you will take good care of the baby, won’t you? You won’t let anyone bully them, right?”
Her voice was very soft, barely above a whisper.
Leopold furrowed his thick eyebrows, “What are you worried about?”
She swallowed, raising her voice slightly.
A woman might be weak, but a mother was strong. For the sake of her child, she couldn’t afford to
mince words.
“I’m afraid they’ll be mistreated by a stepmother. There are few stepmothers in the world who treat their
stepchildren well, especially with the power struggles in rich families.”
She paused, and then continued, “In the future, you will have many more children. For the children of
the woman you love, you will surely favor them. The children of the woman you don’t love, however,
will be neglected. If a child isn’t loved, without even the protection of their mother, how could they
survive?”
Her words struck a nerve with Leopold because he was that unloved child. Growing up, he had never
felt his father’s love. He had hardly ever seen his father’s face.
This was a shadow that had hung over him, one that hadn’t disappeared even now.
“Such a thing will never happen to my child.”
He spoke with certainty, but Aurelia remained uneasy, particularly when she thought of Elowen.
“Hopefully.” She sighed, lowering her gaze.
Leopold looked at her, a sharp glint in his eyes, a hint of mockery on his stern face.
“You’re not thinking of calling off the divorce, are you?”
Aurelia was taken aback, quickly shaking her head, “No, no, don’t get me wrong. I will honor our
agreement, I promise. I won’t delay the divorce for even a second, really.”

If she could, she would get divorced immediately.
If Leopold believed her, it would be a miracle.
A child was the best bargaining chip. How could she not use it?
“Once the child is born, it will have nothing to do with you. You shouldn’t harbor any inappropriate NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.
thoughts, otherwise you won’t get a penny.”
Aurelia was speechless. She never intended to take his money in the first place.
She forced a smile, “As long as you treat the child well, I’ll be at ease. I’ll focus all my energy on work,
strive hard, and ensure the boss has nothing to worry about.”
Leopold was taken aback, his eyebrows furrowed tighter.
Was this woman a sharpshooter in her past life, shooting off words like bullets?
The car was engulfed in an uncomfortable silence.
To avoid prying eyes, Aurelia was dropped off in front of the Astral Enterprises‘ building.
Unexpectedly, she ran into Leopold in the elevator.
What a strange coincidence!
However, he wasn’t alone. With him was Elowen.
Elowen had been waiting for over an hour just to catch him.
Seeing Aurelia, she sneered, “I heard you got Arnold to shoot an ad. You’re not planning to go public
with your relationship, are you? I was worried you were trying to seduce Leopold, but it turns out you
want to be his sister–in–law!
