The CEO’s Substitute Lover

Chapter 63: She’s a Good Girl

Psychiatric Hospital.

Tredan Davi had a chaise lounge placed in the courtyard for his mother to lie on while he carefully brushed her long, freshly blown-dried hair.

Mrs. Davi, Althena Cockey, is at the moment quiet and peaceful in the warm sunshine under the protective care of her son.

She took her son by the hand and sat him down on the edge of the couch and asked, “Tredan, where is the girl who came with you last time? Why didn’t she come along?”

Tredan Davi was stunned to learn that his mother remembered Octavia Gills, whom she had only met once.

“She’s your sweetheart, isn’t she?”

Althena Cockey beamed, “A good girl, my son has a good eye.”

“I just don’t know if she loves me as much as I love her.” Tredan Davi murmured, with his head bent down.

Althena Cockey laughed softly and stroked Tredan Davi’s face with her hand. “It seems you truly love her when such a wonderful son of mine is so unsure of himself.”

After a short pause, she withdrew her smile and said seriously, “Mom can see that she really loves you. The way she looks at you is so caring and full of heart, and she seems to have carved you in her heart, you must cherish it.”

What she didn’t say is that this was how she treated Tredan Davi’s father, Floyd, but unfortunately, it was not reciprocated by her husband.

“Son, promise your mother that you won’t fail her.”

Tredan Davi was suddenly happy, telling his mother about the days when he and Octavia Gills were abroad and telling her all the cute and embarrassing stories about the current Octavia Gills, much to her delight.

The good times always fly by.

“Son, bring Octavia next time, I love seeing you together.”

Althena Cockey bid farewell to Tredan Davi.

Tredan Davi, who stood up and was about to leave, hesitated at her words, thought for a moment, and returned to his mother, “Mum, I don’t want to bring her and I don’t even plan to meet her these days.”

Althena Cockey froze, “Why?”

Tredan Davi looked at his mother’s loving face and was hesitant, but if he didn’t make it clear to her, he was afraid that there would be some resistance to the implementation of the next plan and that it might irritate her emotionally, although the doctor said that she was recovering well, she had been ill for so many years, she might not be able to bear it.

“Mum, I’m telling you, but promise me you must not be anxious or worried, believe me, I will arrange everything, you and Octavia are the two most important people in my life, everything I do is for the future of the three of us, must believe me.”

Althena Cockey couldn’t help but stare, “Tredan, are you in some kind of trouble?”

Tredan Davi briefly spoke to his mother about the current problems with Group Davi and the Drye Family’s pushing.

“Woodrow’s and my company have taken off over the years and even if we leave Group Davi, our lives will be financially secure. The old man doesn’t know about Octavia yet, and the people who came to investigate were given information that I had modified beforehand, but paper can’t cover fire and I am still worried that this will backfire on Octavia.”

Althena Cockey couldn’t help but clutch her son’s hand as she listened to him, “I’ll send you and Octavia out of the country first when Gar’s operation is done, Woodrow is all set up on the paperwork side, so mum, take care of yourself while I’m away, it won’t be long now.”

Tredan Davi couldn’t help but look at his mother and, despite his hidden worries, smiled happily at the thought of a long and happy future. “Octavia loves children, and she will be relieved that you will help us with them in the future.”

Althena Cockey smiled back, “Good, good, Mum will be waiting for that day.”

In the days that followed, both Group Davi and the Drye Family were quiet and their stocks were rising steadily, with all sorts of new revelations emerging about the Davi Family’s romantic history with Ms. Lilian.

Eddison knows it’s all Ms. Lilian’s doing, and, strangely, his big brother hasn’t done anything about it. Since he became Vice President, Tredan has shifted a lot of work to him and was often away from the office.

However, he and Octavia’s paths never crossed again after that day.

As Eddison’s workload increased, his assistant, Octavia, also had a lot of work to do. Octavia was also aware of all the gossip circulating in the company.Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

Octavia has changed and everyone around her has noticed. She became even more silent and pale.

Domino, who is so in love, asked Octavia to go to the bar with her but she refused, saying she had too much work and is too tired to have fun.

Even Gar, who was in the hospital, sensed that his sister’s thoughts wandered occasionally and asked her about it, but she also said it was because she had been a bit stressed at work recently, and said nothing else.

Eddison felt that Octavia looked like a wilting flower and can’t do anything about it.

Today, he was ordered by his mother to return to the Davi Family home for dinner.

Ottilie looked at her handsome, upright son with relief, but frowned and asked him about what she learned, “Eddison, that secretary of yours, Octavia Gills, is she very close to you? Why is she the only one you brought with you when you left the subsidiary?”

Eddison was a little surprised, “How do you know about Octavia?”

“Don’t mind me too much, I’m just asking you, why did you only bring her to work for you at the head office?”

Eddison’s mind was racing, “Because she’s good at her job and she doesn’t talk too much, she’s very proper. It’s so hard to find a female secretary these days who doesn’t gossip.”

“So, how come I heard she’s not on good terms with you?”

“Gee, mum, it’s not like you don’t know about those female staff, they gossip all day long. Being with a young, talented bachelor like me, who wouldn’t be targeted by gossip by being close to me?”

Ottilie laughed at Eddison’s look, “That’s true.”

Suddenly something occurred to her, “I’ll tell you what, whether what they say is true or not, this Octavia Gills, you stay away from her, if you like her, I will never allow it!”

“Why?” Eddison said sharply, his voice rising involuntarily.

“What? You like her?” Ottilie’s face turned red.

“No, Mom, what are you up to? Since when did you interfere with me making friends?” Eddison denied it in a hurry.

Ottilie said, “Let me tell you, this Octavia is from a small family, grew up without a father, her mother was a maid, and even without being a family man as her brother is a genetic congenital heart disease patient, such genes cannot be accepted in the Davi Family…”

Eddison was about to speak when he heard someone beside him say in a deep voice, “Who can’t enter our Davi Family?”

Floyd had come striding in and mother and son rose and rushed to greet him.

Eddison came up first and put his arm around Floyd and asked, “Dad, I haven’t seen you for a few days, are you well? No one has upset you lately, have they? But more importantly, have you missed me?”

Floyd patted the hand that Eddison was holding on to and laughed out, “Brat, what brings you back to see us today?”

Eddison sighed deliberately, “I’ve been waiting for you to call me back for dinner, but I couldn’t wait, so I had to come back myself with a cheeky face, who made me miss you more than you missed me?”

Floyd laughed heartily, “What girl could resist your mouth if you were to coax her?”

He said, “I’m telling you, don’t mess around outside and don’t give me any more news.”

“No, no, you know how good I am!”

Ottilie looked at the father and son teasing each other and smiled without interrupting, saying in her mind, “Tredan Davi, no matter how capable you are, I will keep you away from the Davi Family, which can only be Eddison’s.”

The three of them were seated around the table, and Ottilie was serving their favorite dishes to each of them while listening to the two of them chatting, when Floyd suddenly looked up and asked Ottilie, “Hey, who is it that I heard you say you wouldn’t let into the Davi Family?”

Ottilie put the peeled shrimp in her hand into Floyd’s bowl and smiled, “It’s a rare occasion that my son comes home, so have a nice meal and finish it.”

Floyd didn’t mind and continued to talk to Eddison about the previous topic, he was still very happy with his youngest son, who had been a good boy since he was a child and had never bothered him.

After the meal, Ottilie made Pu-erh Tea for father and son. Eddison asked, “Mum, don’t you have something to tell Dad? What is it that you can’t talk about during dinner for fear of spoiling Dad’s appetite? Dad, mum is so considerate, I’ll find a wife like her!”

Floyd laughed and smacked his son on the head, “You’ve got a mouth like honey, you’re so smooth!”

Turning to Ottilie, “What is it?”

Ottilie smiled slightly and took a file folder out from under the coffee table and put it in front of Floyd, “Floyd, this is the woman you asked me to look into last time, I got it.”

“Oh?” Floyd’s face straightened and he sat up straighter, not reaching for that file folder.

“Go ahead, what’s the situation?”

Ottilie poured a cup of tea, served it to Floyd, and narrated, “This girl’s name is Octavia Gills, she lost her father at a young age, her mother is a nanny for the Drye Family, she has been studying on her own with the Drye Family’s financial support, she has a younger brother with a congenital heart condition that is hereditary…”

“Wait, wait, wait.” Eddison held out both hands and waved them around in front of his parents.

“Stop it! Stop it! Mum, you?? are you investigating Octavia Gills? What for?”

Floyd’s face had grimaced, “Octavia Gills? What department is she in now?”

“Dad, Octavia Gills is my secretary, isn’t she? Didn’t you call on her last time?” Eddison was now confused.

“What? It’s that secretary of yours! No wonder she was pushing to defend Tredan, when I asked her last time, so it was her.” Floyd was so angry that he slammed his teacup on the coffee table.

Ottilie gently wiped the tea stains and said lightly, “I heard you say that this Ms. Octavia was looking after Tredan for Lilian for two years, then she found Tredan after all these years and made him fall in love with her while Lilian was abroad. I’m afraid Tredan has already fallen in love.”

“Not her!” Floyd sulked, “The Davi Family’s door is not for a vixen like her to enter?”

“Family-wise, this Octavia is unsuitable and there is a good chance that she also has a family history of heart disease, but there is no point in us saying more, after all, Tredan likes it and with Tredan’s temperament, no one can stop him.”

“Nonsense! It’s not up to him!”

Eddison was completely dumbfounded, “Mum, what are you talking about and what has Octavia done to piss you off?” He had a twinge of bad feeling in his heart.

Ottilie gave him a gentle stifled look and said to Floyd, “Look, what can we do about this silly son of ours. He doesn’t even know that his secretary is his big brother’s secret lover!”

Eddison felt like she had been hit by a thunderclap.

Floyd glared at a dumbfounded Eddison, “Don’t be like your no-good big brother!”

“Floyd, what do you think about this, what do we do next?”

Floyd looked deep into the file folder in front of him, “Sack her immediately!”

“Dad!” Eddison exclaimed.

“It’s no use, Floyd, if the two are in love, sacking her won’t solve the problem, and it won’t make Tredan just leave her.”
