Chapter 16: Tredan Strikes
A disbelieving Tredan took off his sunglasses and clicked on the tracking and anti-theft locator tied to the Ferrari in his phone! She was sick? No wonder she didn’t answer her Facebook or her phone last night, Tredan wondered as he drove straight to the Notre Dame Hospital!
“Is there a lady named Octavia Gills in hospital or visiting?” The paramedics kept redialing Octavia Gills’ mobile number as they consulted.
“Sorry, no! But there is a patient called Gar Gills with a sister named Octavia Gills among the registered relatives, and it’s the exact same mobile number as you mentioned!”
“Oh, really! Thanks!” Arriving at the door of Gar Gills’ ward according to the ward number provided by the paramedics, Tredan, who had been anxiously searching for Octavia Gills all the way, mumbled for the millionth time, “That little ninny, she’s not letting up at all!”
But outside the door of her room, she faintly heard her being told to marry some President Banbury?
Tredan pushed the door open angrily, his face, which had been worried, shifting to a dark, stony look!
Shocked to see her beloved suddenly appear in her brother’s hospital room, Octavia Gills looked at the man in front of her and asked, a little incredulously but with a touch of warmth, “… President Davi, what are you doing here?”
At the sight of her red, swollen eyes, Tredan’s somewhat inexplicable anger disappeared, yet his heart felt pity.
“Why didn’t you answer your phone or check Facebook all night last night?” The raw tone made it obvious to Octavia Gills, who knew him well, that he was concerned about her!
How she wanted to run to him and hug him, remembering that her mother was present, subconsciously pulling him out of the room.
“Er… President Davi, let’s talk outside about work!”
“What the job thing?” Tredan, who was not happy with Octavia Gills trying to cover-up something and fleeing, wrenched Octavia Gills, who was pulling him towards the corridor, against the wall of the corridor passage.
“Why didn’t you reply to Facebook or answer your phone last night?” Without waiting for Octavia Gills to reply Tredan kissed Octavia Gills, kissing and sucking hard, like some kind of punishment, but more like drowning after being worried.
“Do you know how worried I was about you? When I got off the plane and saw the information about your red-light violation and found you in the hospital, I thought something had happened to you.” Tredan said, hugging the person in front of him tightly as if to feel her breath of well-being.
“I… I…,” Octavia Gills was going to say “Let’s break up.” to Tredan. Instead, she couldn’t say a single word, and simply let herself cling to him and cry bitterly. Octavia Gills cried out her heart. She doesn’t want to let him go, she doesn’t want to be strong, let her be vulnerable! She was so tired and worn out!
Tredan’s heart tightened as he watched Octavia Gills burst into tears in his arms, crying so heartbreakingly that it hurt so much.
He gently patted Octavia Gills on the back, cupped her tear-stained face and tenderly dried her tears with the palm of his hand, “It’s okay, I’m here for you, don’t be afraid! I’ve got you covered!”
Octavia Gills looked at Tredan’s serious look with blurry eyes and a warmth flowed through her body instantly because of his words, it was as if her heart that had been hanging on a tightrope landed on a safety net!”
“Why are you still shedding tears? Idiot! Tell me what’s going on so I can arrange something to help you!” Tredan gently scratched Octavia Gills’ red nose with his finger. He said with a heartfelt smile.
Octavia Gills, who was still sobbing looked and Tredan and smiled warmly at him. Then slowly addressed him, “My brother, Gar Gills, has been suffering from congenital heart disease since he was born and has been relying on medication to keep him alive due to the poverty of our family. If a suitable heart is not found for surgery before he turns twenty-five, my brother… would be left without a cure. He has a year and a half to go before he turns 25, but today his condition suddenly deteriorated.
“Don’t worry about the money, let me just go out to make a phone call. I’m here! I’ll make arrangements for everything and take care of it for you!” Tredan picked up the phone and patted Octavia Gills on the shoulder to reassure her and went out to make the call to get things started.
Gar Gills woke up in the ward and Elda Block cried out in concern as she held him in her arms, “My son, you’re awake, are you feeling better?”
Despite his sickly face, Gar Gills’ handsome looking lit up and smiled with such a cheerful, sunny smile. He knowingly gave his mother a hug and said, “I’m fine, I’m fine! Don’t worry, the fortune tellers say I’ll live to be 100 years old, and that’s a long time! Don’t worry, Mother!” It was her brother who was trying to reassure everyone, despite his feebleness. Octavia Gills walked in and smiled gently at the awakened Gar Gills.
Seconding Gar Gills’ jibe, “You’re one with a slippery tongue!”
“Sis!” Gar Gills, who was looking at Octavia Gills, laughed openly, “Come on, let’s see how much older and uglier you’ve gotten for crying?”
Elda Block was reassured seeing how well the two siblings were getting along. She thought that her husband, who was no longer alive, would have been happy to see him, but her heart ached with sadness as she thought about it.
“Mum, you haven’t eaten this morning yet, have you? I’ll go out and get something for you and my brother to eat. Gar, is there anything in particular you’d like to eat?” Octavia Gills was always so attentive and considerate.
“Sis, I want that shark’s fin congee, abalone and lobster, and the ten-all tonic soup.” Gar Gills was as haughtily funny as ever.
“Boy, be decent. However, the shark’s fin porridge will be enough to satisfy you.”
“Sis, I’m just kidding, just order some white porridge, I’m not hungry!” Rarely did the boy speak normally, but Octavia Gills was getting more and more distressed.
“Wait until sis buys you something delicious!” Octavia Gills, who had just opened the door, saw Tredan’s assistant standing in the doorway gesturing to knock on the door.
“Hello Ms. Octavia, I am Selwin, President Davi’s assistant, He has just instructed me to get you breakfast, may I ask if you would like to eat now?”
“Er… President Davi?” said Octavia Gills, a little surprised, but also a little disappointed, had he gone to work? “Ah, I was just about to go out and buy some food? Thank you for your hard work!” Octavia Gills took the breakfast that Selwin had bought especially for them.
“Open it up, it’s shark’s fin congee, cheese-baked lobster, three-headed abalone, a pot of tonic soup and some exquisite pastries!” Selwin urged Olivia Gills.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
