Chapter 5
I could hardly sleep throughout the weekend, and when it was finally Monday, I dressed up in my new suit that I ordered online two days ago and applied a very small amount of my strawberry lipstick.
I left my house around 6:30 a. m. and was already there before 7:00 a. m.
The securities and the cleaners were the only ones around during that time, so I waited for thirty more minutes before people started showing up.
The anxiety that everything was a prank was killing me inside, but an attractive young lady who was walking towards me with a smiling face gave me some hope.
“Good morning, Miss Tyler,” she said while stretching out her hand for a handshake.
“Good morning”
“It’s nice meeting you. I’m Miss Parker, but call me Jada. I’m Mr. Stokes assistant.”
“Nice meeting you too, and feel free to call me Lexi.”
“Okay Lexi. Let me show you your office.”
We took the lift and stopped on the fourth floor. We passed through the hallway and stopped by a door, which she opened.
“This is your office, and the other one is for Mr. Stokes,” she said, pointing at another door that was inside my office.
“Oh… okay. So the boss will have to make use of this door.”
“Not necessary. That is, if he wants to.”
“What do you mean?”
“He has his own personal door, but he can still make use of this if he wants to.”
“Oooh…” I said, digesting the information.
“This is his schedule for this week and next week,” she said, putting down some of the files she was carrying.
“Okay”
“Have a nice day.”
“You too”
I sat down on my comfortable office chair and felt how smooth the leather was with my hands before calling Cynthia to update her about what was happening.
I called her twice and decided to message her instead since she wasn’t picking up her phone.
‘Not a prank, but I still don’t understand what is going on. I’m going to update you as soon as everything is clear to me. Bye’
I scanned through the files and later decided to get myself something to eat since I hadn’t planned any.
I stepped out of my office and had hardly taken four steps before rushing back inside and jamming the door with my back.
‘Holy cow! What is he doing here? How can this be happening to me? What am I going to do now? How am I going to survive this?’
Knock knock
“Miss Tyler! Miss Tyler, are you in?” A familiar voice said
“Lexi, what have you done?” I asked myself. My heartbeat was raising so fast that I could swear the guy on the other side could hear it. I was sweating, and I was sure my panic attack was already setting in.
“Miss Tyler!”
‘How are you going to survive other days if you can’t even survive your first day at work?’ I thought and gathered all the strength in me to take my back off the door and open it.
“Are you okay?” Someone was asking me, but my vision was too blurry for me to identify who
“Miss Tyler, look at me! Can you see me? Can you hear me now?” The person was asking
“Miss Tyler!”
Now my vision was back to normal, and I was able to identify the person who was asking me the questions. I pretended not to hear and used the opportunity to take in everything that was happening in front of me.
I was lying horizontally on the ground, and a familiar face with a worried expression was looking down on me.Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.
“Miss Tyler! Can you hear me?” The man said it again.
It was the nameless guy with whom I had spent a night a week ago.
“Miss Tyler!” He said it again, and then something moved underneath my head. I rotated my eyes from left to right to understand what just happened, and I almost screamed when everything became clear.
‘So, Lexi, you aren’t lying on the ground but on the nameless guy’s laps. Exactly what you need right now’ I thought and stylishly got out of his laps and adjusted my pencil skirt.
“Thanks”
“You don’t have to.”
“What happened?”
“I was knocking; you weren’t answering, so I came in and saw you falling.”
“Oh, thank you.”
“Like I’ve said earlier, you don’t have to,” he said while getting up. “You must be Miss Tyler?” He said it formally. Too formal for my liking
“Yes”
“I’m Jason Stokes,” he said, going inside his office. My eyes were as round as a saucer when what he said settled in.
‘Holy mother of Jesus! Did he just say he is Jason Stokes? How can that be possible? So, Lexi, you had a one-night stand with a billionaire. Stupid girl, you should have seen that coming’
I went to my bag and took out my phone to text Cynthia when another phone rang.
“Hello”
“Let Mr. Kingsley in as soon as he is here.”
“Ok, sir,” I said, but he had already hung up the phone. ‘asshole’ I murmured.
I dropped the phone and sat down on my leather chair to differentiate between the man I met a week ago and the man I met now, who acted as if we had never met before.
“I’m in trouble” I texted to Cynthia, who texted back instantly. I was about to read her message when someone entered the office.
“Good morning,” I said with a smiling face.
“Good morning. Are you the latest?” The handsome African American man asked
‘Am I the latest? What the hell does that mean?’
“I’m Lexi, the new secretary. Mr. Stokes is waiting for you, sir.”
“Okay,” he said before naking me in front of my own eyes and licking his bottom lip.
I pulled out my phone when I was through with some files and checked Cynthia’s message.
‘What is the problem? I hope it has nothing to do with the police’ from Cyn at 8:47 a. m.
‘Lexi, is everything ok? Are you there?’ from Cyn at 8:56 a. m.
‘Everything is going to be’ I texted her back and hid my phone when I heard some footsteps. I bent my head over the file that was on my table and stylishly watched as Mr. Stokes and Mr. Kingsley came out of the office together.
“When did she start?” Mr. Kingsley quietly asked
“Today,” Jason replied.
Mr. Kingsley asked another question, which I was unable to make out.
“Ask no more,” Jason replied, and he walked out of the office before Mr. Kingsley could ask him any more questions.
Mr. Kingsley looked at my side, winked at me, and licked his lips before going after Jason.
During lunch break, I went to a nearby restaurant and ordered a burger and Sprite. I was about to start eating when a beautiful lady came up to me with her tray.
“Can I join you?” She asked
“Yes sure”
“I’m Stephanie from the marketing department.”
“I’m Lexi, the new secretary.”
“Nice meeting you.”
“Nice meeting you too,” I replied.
We chatted throughout our meal and exchanged phone numbers on our way back to the office.
Thirty minutes before closing, I received a strange call from the office phone.
“This is Lexi from Stokes Enterprise; what can I do for you?”
“Direct my call to Jason,” a female voice commanded.
“Who will I say is speaking?”
“Just direct the call.”
“I’m sorry, but I need to know who is speaking.”
“Tell him it’s Dixie.”
“Okay. I’m going to get back to you in a few seconds,” I said and called Jason.
“Tell her to make an appointment” was Jason’s order.
I unheld Dixie’s call and passed the information down to her.
“Tell him it’s urgent,” she said desperately.
“Mr. Stokes is unavailable for more calls; would you like to make an appointment?”
“Okay,” she said in surrender, “when will he be available?”
“Is schedule pretty open for upper next week?”
“Okay. Twelve on Thursday”
