Chapter 15
All the way there, Jeffrey wouldn’t stop yapping about their memories from childhood to adulthood, but none of it reached Everett’s ears. Once they arrived at the company, he didn’t even bother to say goodbye to Jeffrey and just went straight up in the CEO’s private elevator. “Mr. Lopez, about the infringement lawsuit against N&P Enterprises, do you need to gather more lawyers?” The secretary knocked on the door and just happened to come in with some documents. “I heard they’ve got some big-shot lawyer on their side.”
Everett adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses. He was unfazed and signed his name at the bottom of the document.
“Don’t worry. We’ll let Ms. Heather handle all legal matters when she gets back.”
“Ms. Heather is coming back to the head office?” Upon hearing this, the secretary’s previous worry disappeared like smoke in thin air. “That’s great. We’ve got this lawsuit in the bag then!”
He wasn’t exaggerating.
In the past few years, any major lawsuit that the Lopez Corporation faced was dealt with easily as long as Heather was their defense lawyer.
Just as the secretary was about to leave, feeling relieved, Everett stopped him.
“Grab some fruits and supplements on your way out and send them to room V1 at the City Hospital.”
“Sure thing, Mr. Lopez”
After he left, Everett took out the marriage certificate he had just received from the pocket of his suit jacket. Everett’s fingers lightly brushed over it. After a good while, he got up and neatly placed it in theText © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
safe.
In the hospital, the smell of disinfectant was still everywhere.
Dorothy had been waiting in room V1 for almost two hours before Bella woke up from her deep coma.
Her condition was better this time. At least she had the energy to lift her hand.
“Mom, you finally woke up! The doctor just came by, and I’ve signed all the surgery consent forms. You can have the surgery in a few days.”
When signing the papers, she was so excited that she could barely hold the pen.
In contrast to Dorothy’s joy, Bella just frowned.
“Dorothy, where did the money for the surgery come from?”
“I borrowed it.”
Dorothy obviously wouldn’t tell her mother the truth.
But saying she borrowed it wasn’t exactly a lie, since she was using Everett’s money for the surgery now, but she would pay him back once she saved up enough.
“It’s one million, right? Who would lend you that?” Bella said as she tried to sit up, getting agitated. “Tell me the truth! Did you get this money through some shady means?”
“No” Dorothy, having no other choice, said, “I’m dating a guy. He lent it to me.”
Upon hearing this, Bella was even more upset.
“No way. I’m not doing the surgery. Give him back his money!”
Dorothy furrowed her brow, feeling helpless. “Mom, not having the surgery could put your life at risk.”
“I’d rather die that let you spend a man’s money! Haven’t I always told you that men are no good? Especially the rich ones. They’re not reliable!”
Bella was tricked in the same way back in the day. Her husband was full of sweet promises before they got married, but he cheated on her after only two years of marriage. He even fathered a child out of wedlock.
“So, what do you want me to do?” Dorothy was too exhausted, so she couldn’t control herself. She unwillingly raised her voice slightly. “My dad might as well be dead, and if something happens to you, I’ll be an orphan!”
She took a breath and gently rubbed her mother’s hand. “Mom, I promise you. I’ll definitely pay him back, okay?”
She wanted to strive to settle the debt with Everett by the time they divorced.
