The Ceo’s Contract Lover

Proud of him

“Don’t forget, I’m still the CEO.” Jayden looked at her coldly.

A derisive snicker resonated in the room that came from Jayden’s uncles.

Back when William suddenly fell ill, The Luxton Corporation faced imminent danger.

During that period, it was Jayden who resurrected the Luxton Corporation from the brink of collapse.

Under his leadership, the business flourished with each passing day.

They were indignant about letting an illegitimate son take the position of CEO. However, Jayden’s ability to manage the business left everyone speechless.

Throughout the years, they had silently consented to let him toil for the Luxton Corporation.

However, now that he had a few days to live, they couldn’t wait to overthrow him.

“Jayden, have you forgotten that you’re a dying man right now? How much more do you think you can invest?” They mocked.

He had already outlived his usefulness and so there was no need for him to stay at the company.

Nina’s heart chilled at their words.

Among those present in the room, the majority were Jayden’s relatives.

Not a single person had visited him at the hospital when he fell ill.

Instead, they were eagerly vying to seize control of the company and his assets.

Nina didn’t need to guess how he had grown up in such a toxic environment.

“Even if I don’t have long to live, it’s not your place to decide,” Jayden declared, dismissing them with a cold glance. “Since everyone is here, let the meeting begin,”

“Wait, my guest is yet to come,” Lilian interrupted, arrogantly adjusting her shawl.

At that moment, footsteps echoed from outside the door.

The person who entered was exceptionally handsome and his facial features appeared as if God himself carved them.

Standing at almost 1. 9 meters tall, he exuded an imposing presence.

The black Buddhist bracelet on his wrist provided a stark contrast with his skin, adding to his air of imperiousness.

Jayden’s expression shifted slightly upon seeing his mortal enemy.

He did not expect this brainless woman to join hands with him.

“Hello! Welcome, Mr. Evan,” Lilian walked up to the man and extended her hand.

But even after a few seconds had passed, the man didn’t show any intention of shaking hands with her.

Lilian felt embarrassed, but it did not discourage her.

“Mr. Evans?” someone asked, confused. “Which Mr. Evan is this?”

Lilian rolled her eyes. “Who else could it be but the legendary Lucas Evan of Sin City?”

Gasp!

Everyone sucked in a sharp breath when they heard the name.

Lucas Evans…

The CEO of the dominant group that held a 70 percent share of the commercial market in Europe?

Although none of them had seen him before, his name alone was enough to instill fear in everyone present.

Hah!

Jayden Luxton was in serious trouble!

“Please,” Lilian gestured for him to take the seat opposite Jayden.

As he walked across the room, Lucas felt Jayden’s gaze on him and he smiled at him.

His handsome face looked kind, appearing harmless.

But only those who had crossed paths with him knew how venomous this snake truly was.

“Let’s begin,” Lilian announced.

Despite Jayden’s presence, Lilian maintained the upper hand.

As the voting concluded, there was almost no need to count the votes.

It was clear that Keith had secured the support of most shareholders.

Those who had remained neutral saw Jayden sitting there calmly, and couldn’t help but feel disappointed with the outcome.

Next, it was Lucas’s turn to sign the document.

With a fawning look, Lilian handed Lucas documents to transfer his shares to her name.

“Before you sign, why don’t you look at this?” Jayden, who had been silent, suddenly spoke.

With a wave of his hand, the projector displayed a live recording.

As the video’s clarity improved, everyone saw at least a dozen armed men surrounding a woman on the screen. Their fingers hovered on the triggers, ready to shoot her at any moment.

Lucas paused, a dangerous glint in his eyes.

Although the woman’s face was concealed, he recognized those damn eyes all too well.

It was the same pair of dark blue eyes that had captivated him, having him wrapped around her fingers.

Lucas’ eyes narrowed into slits. Murderous intent surrounded him.

Just when everyone thought there would be bloodshed, he suddenly chuckled. “Fortunately, I never underestimated you.”

“Jayden Luxton, how dare you play dirty here?” Lilian stood up angrily.

Jayden ignored her and glanced at Rick, who passed another set of documents to Lucas.

Lucas signed them swiftly before tossing them back.

Lilian was stunned. Before she could react, Lucas had already signed the papers. “Mr. Evans, how could you go back on your word? You promised me!”

“Shut up!” Lucas ordered coldly.

To be honest, he did not care about the Luxton Corporation or his deal with Lilian.

The reason why he bought the shares was not for investment, but rather for his enjoyment.

Lucas fought Jayden purely for the thrill of competition.

In his eyes, the latter was a formidable opponent, and the clash between them was simply an entertainment he sought.

As such, if Jayden were to leave the battleground, the entire spectacle would lose its meaning.

Jayden understood Lucas just as Lucas understood him.

The latter was ascetic and did not have any desires. Nothing in this world could affect him.

However, no one knew that Lucas had a weakness he had hidden from the world.

Even Jayden himself was shocked when he found out Lucas’ secret.

It had taken him a significant amount of time, money, and resources to obtain the person, but the results were undoubtedly worth it.

Certainly, Jayden wouldn’t allow these blood-sucking leeches to exploit the years of his hard work and had come prepared.

Since the results were obvious, Lucas felt no need to linger around.

“I can’t believe I lost to a dying man.” He sighed as he stood before Jayden.Content © NôvelDrama.Org.

It felt nice to look down at Jayden from this spot.

“I’ll be waiting for another battle with you,” Lucas challenged. Then, in a voice only they could hear, he added, “And when the time comes, I’ll return today’s favor tenfold. After all, I’m not the only one with a weakness.”

He threatened, casting a glance at Nina.

Amidst the furious gazes of the onlookers, he put on his shades and his lazy figure strolled out of the room.

Lilian’s face darkened at the sudden turn of events. She retrieved an anxiety pill from her bag and gulped it down.

After calming down, she glared menacingly at Jayden.

“Don’t think you’ve won just because you’ve acquired a few shares,” Lilian sneered. “I knew I couldn’t lower my guard around you and had already prepared Plan B.”

Having lived as Madam Luxton, Lilian was a rather dubious person. Besides herself, she trusted no one.

Fortunately, she was well prepared.

Under the curious gaze of the enemy, she produced a set of documents.

“William has already transferred his shares, making me, Lilian Luxton, the biggest shareholder.” She announced smugly.

Lilian hoped to see a shock or at least a hint of defeat on Jayden’s face.

But he only looked at her as though she was an idiot.

“My dearest Mother,” Jayden started, his tone laced with a touch of sarcasm. “If you hadn’t been so ambitious and stayed as Mrs. Luxton, you might have lived a little longer. At least you wouldn’t have appeared like a brainless clown in front of everyone. Alas…” He shook his head, disappointed in her choices.

As deprecating as his words were, he was in fact speaking the truth.

“What do you mean?” Lilian asked, feeling uneasy.

The doors to the conference room opened once more, and William entered with the help of the butler.

Lilian’s eyes widened in horror. “Y-you… How come you’re alive?”

William sneered, a cruel twist to his lips. “Do you think you’re the only one who knows how to play? Have you forgotten that I’m your husband, the man who has slept beside you for the past thirty years? If I couldn’t even perceive your schemes, I would’ve lived my entire life in vain.”

Lilian stood frozen, caught in the whirlwind of shock and realization. “What’s going on here?” she roared.

She remembered clearly she had turned off his life support. How could he still be alive?

William, her supposedly dead husband, reveled in her astonishment. “Are you shocked? You’ve been playing games for years, my dear, but it seems the game has now played you.”

It was unknown if she overestimated herself too much or underestimated them too much.

If it was that simple to take over the Luxton empire, a corporation that held the economic lifeline of the country. Then they would’ve long been on the streets.

Right from the start, William and Jayden, these two shrewd men, had been extremely vigilant of the people in the company as well as in their family.

Ever since Jayden assumed control of the company, he had expected the day when Lilian would bare her fangs one day.

And look, she did not disappoint him.

As the situation turned against them, Keith panicked. He immediately knelt beside William and begged, “Dad, it was all Mom’s idea. If she hadn’t insisted, I wouldn’t have agreed to her plans. Please believe me. I don’t even know how to run a business!”

William ignored Keith, just as he had been ignoring him all his life.

His aged yet commanding gaze scanned the room before settling on Jayden.

“My father, I, and Jayden have poured our hearts into this corporation. And I’m confident that the next generation will carry the Luxton Corporation to even greater heights.”

“It’s unfortunate that Jayden has been plagued with illness. However, I hope… and I pray he recovers and returns to the company. The Luxton empire and all of us need him,” William expressed. His gaze was fixed on Jayden as his eyes slowly turned red.

“Son, I’ve never told you this before, but I’m proud of you,” William choked on his words.

His eyes held a lifetime of stories, regrets, and perhaps a love that the complexities of life had overshadowed.

“I’ve often imposed restrictions on you, but you’ve never once disappointed me. While I may not have been the best husband or father, you are undeniably the best son anyone could ever ask for.”

Now that he was old and had one foot under his grave, he had thought things through.

Wealth and power were all materialistic things.

What truly mattered was good health and the support of good people around you in tough times.

Jayden shut his eyes, unable to bear the weight of his emotions.

Nina squeezed his hand gently, providing him with support and strength.

Gathering his last bit of energy, William stood firmly and declared.”From this moment, until Jayden wills, my second son, Liam, will take over the CEO’s position,”
